The property was in fantastic condition, and the I can't write enough good things about the clifftop view from the cantilever deck. The listing is accurate and I would certainly recommend this cabin to friends.
My two boys (11 & 13) spent several days here while exploring the Black Hills and seeing Mt. Rushmore. The location alone was worth the price. We could be at any of the attractions, including Custer State Park, Rapid City and the other cool little towns with in twenty minutes.
The house was a great hangout spot with the big deck off the dining area, and the cozy living room. I think the place would be just as good for a romantic couple thing, as it is for dad and boys. Loved the mix of lodge pole and siding. The upstairs bedroom, bath and laundry combo was cool, although I'd vote for a king bed there. Outstanding bathroom.
Down a rather cramped stairwell you have the basement that stays cool, even in the 100 degree days. The biggest king bed I've ever seen in a large sleeping area, nice large sitting area with electric stove and TV, and a good sized bathroom and shower.
No other homes are around so it is so quiet. The rabbits were brazen, and saw a good amount of deer.
The view is really great of large pasture with horses and deer in the far distance, framed by the Black Hills. You can really see why it is held as such spiritual ground for the Natives.
The cantilevered, or "infinity" deck is cool, but gave me a little vertigo at first. It sticks out from a bluff three hundred feet or so above Battle Creek. Great place to take in the peaceful setting. Beautiful, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say it doesn't strike me as a good spot for little kids because of that.
This is a real home with all its quirks and tools and such. Treat it well.
Thank you for the opportunity to stay there.
We stayed the weekend with a group of 6 people. Hermosa was a little out of the way for our day plans in Hill City and Spearfish, but if you are looking for a secluded comfortable property I would definitely recommend the cliff top cabin. It had a well-stocked kitchen and a nice deck to enjoy the view. The air conditioning was much appreciated as the outside temperatures were well into the 90's during our stay. There were only two beds (king & queen), so if you party is bigger than four remember to bring air mattresses as they don't have couches.
This home and property was simply beautiful! Loved sitting on the patio overlooking the river and watching the deer in the early morning and sitting on the deck and enjoying the quiet evening nights. Definitely want to rent this cabin again!
The view from the cantilevered patio is worth it! The sound of the creek and night sky were amazing. The cabin was a perfect mid-week getaway, near several bicycling trails and other sights of the Black Hills. Kitchen, living room and bedrooms were very adequate. What a great feature to have two levels with a full bath on each level.
This cabin is perfect for 2 couples or 2 small families. Practically 2 separate living quarters upstairs and down only needing to share the kitchen. Wonderfully decorated and the kitchen was well equipped with everything needed. The view is to die for. Very secluded and private. We saw rabbits, deer, turkey and birds of all types everyday in the front yard as well as the pasture below.
