The perfect cozy, waterfront get-away, Chuckanut Bay Hideaway! CBH, is a recently converted modern cottage style studio on world famous Chuckanut Bay. Sit back and watch the eagles, sea birds, seals, boats and spectacular sunsets from this very private and comfortable hideaway. 3 miles south of the historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham, WA, 75 minutes from Vancouver, 90 minutes from Seattle. Perfect for a weekend get-away any time of year. (WWU parents: build in a mini-vacation to your next visit - come see your student and spoil yourself at the same time!!)
It's called the HideAway for a reason. Private, quiet and secluded - yet very close to shops, restaurants and grocery stores.
The 550 sq ft HideAway is nestled in the trees on a level patch of cliff, offering a commanding view of Chuckanut Bay, Lummi Island and mature gardens. Garage parking with inside stairs make access easy and dry. The hideaway is a newly (completed in Jan 2012) converted space with open beam ceiling, hardwood floors, gas fireplace-stove, 42” HD LCD TV with cable, wifi, BluRay, cotton linens, leather couch, large tile shower, heated tile bathroom floor, microwave, refrigerator, plates, glasses, toaster, coffee maker, tea kettle, cutlery. (Sorry NO OVEN OR COOK TOP/BURNERS. If you need to cook this is NOT the place for you.)
Because of its cliff-side location, there are 14 stairs to be navigated to get from the garage area. The train tracks run below the property, and the occasional rumble sound of the trains rolling by provide a wonderful background.
The HideAway is ideal for 2 people only.
The HideAway has a small covered porch which is perfect for enjoying morning coffee or evening cocktails while watching fabulous sunsets. You can also relax in the sun (weather permitting) on the lawn chairs in the garden area.
The Hideaway is located on world famous Chuckanut Drive, a 20 mile long two-lane road constructed in 1896 was designated a State Scenic Recreational Highway in 1993. In places Chuckanut Drive literally hangs off the side of Chuckanut Mountain with spectacular salt water views. There are plenty of hiking, biking trails nearby. Head north on the old Interurban Trail and go to Fairhaven and downtown Bellingham or head south to Larabee State Park, Clayton beach and Skagit Valley. Picturesque towns like La Conner, Fairhaven and Edison are easily within reach with their art galleries, shops and restaurants. Enjoy gourmet cuisine minutes away at The Oyster Bar or the Rhododendron Cafe. Taylor Shellfish Farm is just down the road and has oysters, clams, mussels, crab and prawns mostly farmed and caught locally daily. Also within easy reach are the Washington State and British Columbia ferries, Whale watching tours, boating and kayaking, Winter skiing and boarding at Mt. Baker ski area, and the Skagit Valley, with it’s Tulip Festival in April and berries and fresh organic produce all summer.
Reminder: NO OVEN OR COOK TOP/BURNERS. If you need to cook this is NOT the place for you.

I was a builder, woodworker before I began a career in software. I rput the tool belt back on to transform my woodshop into the Chuckanut Bay HideAway. I live alone in the main house on the property. I am often out of town but have a local support person when I am gone. I enjoy traveling and meeting other travels. I can help with questions and suggestions but I respect the privacy of my guests and will let you take the lead on your desired level of interaction. ~ H.F.

one word, The View.... ok two words #milliondollarview
I stay at the Chuckanut Hideaway at least twice a year. The space has a relaxing feel: intimate size, exposed wood joists, calming paint colors, a very comfortable bed, and a large bay window where I sit for hours looking over Chuckanut Bay and watching the sun set behind Lummi Island. It's close to great hiking, beach and nature walking, and plenty of restaurants.
We had a great stay at the Hideaway. This is a well appointed accommodation with a terrific view. It is a nicely furnished studio space, similar to a hotel suite. We enjoyed the space and view, although some might find the unfinished ceiling a bit too rustic.
Howard was the perfect host -- he made sure everything was OK, but gave use space to enjoy the rental. It's a great getaway, and a nice change of pace from our usual stay with relatives. It's close to all of the fun of Bellingham and there are several nice hikes just minutes away on Chuckanut Mountain. We hiked to Fragance Lake, but several other hikes are nearby. There is also a walking/bike trail that leads into Bellingham (Interurban Trail). The rental includes a visitors guide with several maps and information about local attractions. Great place.
Enjoyed the perfect girls getaway here for Independence Day. We decided that we just had to stay in one night to take in the beautiful sunset from the cottage and so glad we did. Watched 2 hours of fireworks from across the bay with the handy binoculars left for us inside the home. Was lucky enough to see a bald eagle fly by as well! Howard has thought of everything. Clean and comfy, not a detail missed! We wanted for nothing and made fun and lasting memories in this true gem of a hideaway! Thank you, Howard for having us at your truly special property!
This is the perfect place if you want to spend a couple of days without acknowledging the outside world:) You'll have everything you need for that in this little gem. The view is breathtaking, the interior is fabulous and cozy. We loved to watch the sunset while getting warm next to the fireplace! I wish we could have used the little garden in front of the building because the terrace was mostly in shade, but other than that everything was perfect.
Howard Furst, owner and operator of the Chuckanut Bay HideAway, has a hidden gem on his hands!
The HideAway is perfect for those looking to get away from the relentless pace of everyday life. The unit is ideal for two. Small kitchenette (microwave but no cooktop) was great for light breakfasts and lunches. Out for dinner in nearby Fairhaven and Bellingham (lots of options and some amazing microbreweries close by). The description and pictures are accurate. A real gem
The unit is modern, clean and well appointed with an amazing bathroom with a large shower and heated floor.
A semi-private yard for sitting to read and a small deck undercover for rainy days. Private parking was excellent and lots of room to park bikes and other toys securely within the garage was a nice bonus.
Nearby train tracks with passenger and freight trains was an interesting distraction and not a nuisance in the least.
Key codes and remote door openers make the place almost feel like your own.
Howard was very accommodating and helpful in booking the unit on short notice. I would highly recommend this rental to friends and family.
