Excellent for kids

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Payson. Our two young children loved finding toys all over the house and playing with them on the covered porch while it rained, and in the backyard when it didn't. I would highly recommend this property.

Cozy but has limitations

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was very clean and inviting at first glance. The slide and enclosed backyard are perfect for kids. There is only one TV in the cabin and it's on the first floor, but there are lot's of toys for kids to play with. The It's definitely not made for tall people. The ceilings are very low. If you are above 6 feet tall, watch out for the ceiling fans. The internet and cell service is non-existent, especially when it rains. The owners mentioned that WiFi does not support "streaming or gaming, but "sufficient for email and web browsing", I strongly disagree. I contacted the owners and they let me use the home phone for making calls. As far as internet, going to downtown Payson or Pine library are the your only options. So instead of spending time with my kids while working from home, like I planned, I ended up going to places where I had internet service to work. The neighbors are very friendly, except for the one next door with a yapping dog. Also, if you are visiting in July or August, the East Verde River that runs through there is very muddy due to mansoons. Overall it's nice, but has limitations.

Owner's Response: Due to our location within the Tonto National Forest, Internet service is limited and cell service spotty. Unfortunately, until the available telecom companies agree to upgrade the trunk lines coming in to the neighborhood, higher bandwidths will not be available. Monsoon lightening can (and did) cause a recent outage and traffic on the net tends to back up when service is restored. To date, the service has been fairly consistent, yet should be considered light duty until major line upgrades take place.

Clean cabin

  • 3 of 5

we were able to rent for three nights between two other parties. the place was very clean. fortunately, there was only three in our party. it was a hot, high ninety day when we arrived. the air conditioner was struggling to keep the downstairs at 81. the two upstairs bedrooms were not useful as the heat was unbearable due to poor air. i was finally able to get the downstairs temps down after discovering that the two couches were positioned directly over the air registers in the floor, blocking cool air. since upstairs was out of commission, my nine year old grandson slept on the sofa while the wife and i took the downstairs bedroom. if you are planning on needing the two upstairs bedrooms, i would book your trip outside of the summer season. Another thing, if you are 6-3 or taller, consider renting another place. the two downstairs ceiling fan blades are approximately that height, so you risk losing some hair or worse. Owners warn of not using more than one appliance (toaster, toaster oven, or coffee pot) in the kitchen at a time for fear of blowing a fuse. And there is no outlet in the single bathroom.

But we were able to adapt and had a pleasant stay. we were only there for breakfast and sleeping.

Owner's Response: Because our cabin is a true log cabin, the logs do absorb heat during the day. With extended days of high heat, it can be a challenge to get ahead of it for a short stay. We have taken steps to improve the air flow and do provide an auxiliary portable AC unit to assist upstairs. We will also set a lower standing temperature prior to stays in the summer months to allow more time for cooling.

Perfect for kids!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cabin. What made it even better for us was all of the things for the kids to do. The location is amazing as well.
