Getting Around

Guests who have stayed at the Chateau have indicated these were their favorite transportation methods:

ONSITE MINIBUS RENTAL:

"We rented from Avis near the Chateau the 9-seat Renault mini-van. It was so cute and so French! Look Ma', I'm driving a Renault :) The rate was only $300 for the long weekend. First, it was much cheaper than renting at the airport or in Paris. Second, it gave us flexibility to go to Paris, to Versailles, to the Tram station and to our other destinations at our leisure. Roam, return, stay home, run to the gourmet food stores (many many times :) ...super convenient!"

TRAM:

"My students and I used the Transilien Tram to go to Paris & Versailles. The shuttle was 100 yards from the Property, it took us to the Tram station in 5 minutes, the Tram ride was picturesque and dropped us you off directly in Central Paris in the Saint Germain area. We loved it because we used the 20-m ride on the Tram to plan our day, split into groups, and it was so cheap! $2 for the shuttle, $16 for the Tram & all the Metro rides we can do in 24-hrs. Fantastic, affordable, convenient."

PERSONAL DRIVER - CADILLAC CAR SERVICE:

"We loved the Chateau's car service with their Black Cadillac Escalade SUV (6ppl) and their Citroen Jumpy mini-van (8ppl). They picked us up at the Airport and our UK friends from the Eurostar Train Station. We negotiated with them to take us to Paris, Versailles and other destinations all weekend! Their rates were great for a group our size. This was the coolest Paris experience we've ever had!"

About Richard

I am an avid traveler, lover of cultures and cuisines. Life is a special gift, cherish every moment. I am always up to meeting new people or spending time with family and friends.

Why Richard chose 16th Arrondissement Passy Trocadero

We love this property that we renovated from top to bottom and brought its inside technology to the 21st century while keeping t he interior design and furnishings true to its history of 1825

Guestbook comments from the owner

Richard and his Property Manager were outstanding! Five Star host! They were extremely helpful and very responsive throughout our stay no matter the time of day. To illustrate, within minutes of my email/text late on a Sunday night, they were at the house in 5 minutes. We were an American group of three families (all from the Northeast) and we found the house and Richard to be quite an excellent host. The Chateau was lovely, it was exactly as described and the pictures are spot on. The house comfortably held all 13 of us, and that is in US standards - so no more the two to a bed. If you are a large group, the Chateau offers a great place for groups to hang out in a quaint but posh suburb of Paris with access to all that Paris has to offer.

Charming & Relaxing Chateau

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 12 adults and 8 kids between the ages of 2 and 19. First I would like to just say hats off to Christophe and Florence the driving service and property manager. They were AWESOME!!!!! We decided against renting a car and they were great with picking us up and dropping us off at the train. If I had any issues I was able to get in touch with someone very quickly and that made for a great trip. I also recommend their airport pick-up car servic, the house can be hard to find so we didn’t take the chance and I am very glad that we used their service.

The house is nice, it is an old house but it looks just like the pictures so no worries. It is very charming and quaint. We cooked breakfast every day and about 4 dinners. The kitchen is stocked with pretty much everything you need. There is WIFI and depending on your phone service it worked great. There was TV but I recommend bringing movies or something with Netflix if you have small children because the stations are limited but we honestly didn't watch much of it and also your own music box or music traveling station.

We took the train pretty much every day so I recommend purchasing a week pass and that way you can come and go. We scheduled rides with Christophe and Florence to and from the train. There is nothing within walking distance so if you decide not to rent a car you will need to make plans for shopping, etc and that can be easily done with Richard.

There was a flood in the area prior to our arrival so the play area outside was a little messy for the children but after a quick clean they were good to go. The play area is awesome and keeps the children busy.

A few things to keep in mind: The maid service does not come while you are there, only before and after so you are responsible for all cleaning, etc during your stay unless you schedule ahead of time and I do believe there will be a charge. We stayed 9 days and it was fine.

Florence or Christophe does not speak English but that was not an issue, we used Google Translate and made out just fine. Don’t forget to bring your electrical converter for your electronic devices. You can pick one up in the city if you forget but you will need your phone so I wouldn’t chance it.

Thank you Richard for allowing us to share your home for our 10th Wedding Anniversary. Thank you for your constant communication and quick response time. I would definitely stay here again, until next time.

Best Regards,

LaTonya

We felt mislead

  • 2 of 5

We stayed here with friends at the end of July. They had been told by the owner that getting to and from Paris by public transportation was easy and should take about 30 min. This was not the case. The bus stop was a 5 min walk, but the buses don't run on the weekends, and there were only a few buses that ran each day. Once you got the 15 minute bus ride to the train station, if there was one, it was about a 35 min. ride into Paris. The housekeepers were, at times, available to drive us to the station, for E40 one way. The owner had stated that getting to Paris for a tour that began at 8 am would be no problem. No so.

The property is lovely. I think it is a bit pricey for so far away from the city. You can stay in some very nice hotels in town for much less per room. If you don't have car, plan the cost of renting one into your price.

Owner's Response: Hi Tamara, I love the fact that you decided to blame your stubbornness on us. We advised you many times in emails prior to your arrival to rent a car. I have your emails. But then you decided not to do it. JUST READ THE REVIEW OF LEIGH ANN THE GUEST THAT STAYED BEFORE YOU, and the 7 others before you!!! They followed our advice instead of insisting on using the car service. Which by the way you called at 1:40am, 4am, and 2:30am 3 nights in a row to pick you up in a "sorry state" at the train station. Just as you tried to hide your identity by logging as "blondebunny" instead of "Tamara H". We busted ourselves to provide you with outstanding service, I was online many times with the car service to still come pick you up at those crazy hours. We mobilized the gardener to cut the grass a second time, JUST FOR YOU. But I guess some guests are nice, polite, respectful, and others LIKE YOU are just plain ol' rude, ill-mannered and inconsiderate of what others do for them. WE PROVIDE OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND OUR PREVIOUS REVIEWS ARE A TESTAMENT TO IT.

This is a charming property in a quaint town

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of 10 at the home and there was more than enough space for everyone at this charming property. We used 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.

We rented 2 vehicles at Avis in Rambouillet for the week, to drive from the home to the train station each day. Then we took the rapid train from Rambouillet (approx 10-15 min from the home) into Paris Montparnasse station. The SNCF TER train takes 35 min with only one stop at Versailles. Schedule can be found at http://www.sncf.com/en/passengers. Pay attention because the slow trains with multiple stops from Rambouillet take much longer. On Bastille Day, we went to Versailles, driven by Christophe and Florence, since we were staying late for the fireworks celebration.

The home is well equipped. We had a bit of trouble getting the dishwasher to run and one of the TVs (kitchen) to connect, but overall, everything we needed was available. Remember to take converters for the outlets to charge your phones. We cooked breakfast each morning and dinner twice at the house. The Monoprix market in Rambouillet has a good selection of provisions for cooking at home, along with a nice section of wines. I would recommend spending some time in the town of Rambouillet, where you will find a pretty church and chateau, along with nice cafes.

Next door to the home is a church with bells each hour beginning at 7am through evening. We used these (and the birds) as our alarm clock in the mornings.

Richard was very helpful leading up to our vacation with basic information. He also arranged for our transportation with Christophe from our arrival at Paris Gare du Nord (we used the Eurostar chunnel from London) through our departure to Paris central.

Plan to spend about an hour to an hour and a half getting into the city using the SNCF-TER and then metro to specific stops for attractions. You can purchase your metro pass at the Rambouillet station for the week and get unlimited use on both SNCF trains into the city and metro rides within Paris. Be aware that in addition to purchasing the pass, you will need 5 Euro for the photo booth (in exact change).

I would highly recommend this beautiful property if you want to be away from the bustling city crowds. Thank you Richard for allowing us to stay at Chateau Poigny.

A Parisian launching pad from a bucolic setting.

  • 5 of 5

A great time had by all. Children 5-11 yrs (4) to the parents (6) +1 covered all he wonderful sights Paris had to offer. This included a incredible visit to Normandy by my son and myself. A must, I feel. It is a day trip. 6 hrs. total driving. But certainly worth it.

Chef Lauerent was fantastic. Preparing gourmet delights for all. An important note: wine is very reasonbly priced, 4-8€.

The swings and spacious back yard were heavily used and supervised for the children's vigorous activities.

No lie, the trains are perfect. From Rombouillet to Versailles =20 min. From Paris = 30.

Thanks to Richard for paving the way.

Very Charming Property

  • 4 of 5

The house is very charming and the property is lovely -what we were able to explore. Our stay was during the floods and train rolling strikes. Part of the nearby town of Rambouillet was flooded as was the basement of the Chateau and the yard was very wet. It took hours to get to Paris by train because of the strikes. There were 13 of us in the house and we had three rental cars. You have to have a rental car to get groceries and to the train station. We had a lovely dinner one night with a private chef cooking the meal and the house looked magical. Very easy drive to Chartres and Versailles. Lovely green views from every window and church bells every morning.

There were some things I wish I knew before we went. First, the wifi does NOT work well at all. In order to visit sites and get directions and tickets for places we needed the internet. The coverage was very spotty and oftentimes did not work at all. You are required to remove your shoes upon entering the house. A lot of the knick knacks in the kitchen are just dust collectors and do nothing but take up needed counter space. We moved most of it out of the way so the chef could prepare dinner for all of us. We never saw any bicycles. The agent who greeted us, a very lovely woman I am sure, does not speak english. This is to be expected-you are in France, but the members of our party who do speak French did not arrive until after the agent left so we were not able to understand her instructions very well. Just something visitors who do not speak French should know. Also, the wiring for lights is on timers and while there are lots of lamps and such many of them do not seem to be working. So the lighting can be described as "romantic". The "master suite" bedroom my husband and I had was lovely but there was no door-just an opening to a small hallway shared with another bedroom. All the other bedrooms had doors.

The house is laid out well with 5 bedrooms and two baths on one floor and 5 bedrooms and three baths on the 2nd floor. There is a toilet and sink in the basement but it is pretty dark and dank down there. It is an old house! That's to be expected I guess. All that being said I would not hesitate to rent this property again. Would love to stay for a month-when the trains to Paris are running! After a day or so tHE house worked its magic and all the little defects seemed trivial compared to the loveliness and charm of the house and surrounding property.

Owner's Response: Hi Teresa, We were excited to see that the Magic of the house was there and your enjoyed it thoroughly with your family. This is a wonderful Chateau for family gatherings and reunions. Its charming 1825 ambiance will bond any family & friends. A couple of comments on your remarks: 1/ the timers on the lights are part of the new European law on energy savings. So all large structures must have it. 2/ Shoes off inside because many people will have pebbles stick to their sneakers' soles and they will scratch the expensive Versailles natural cedar hardwood. 3/ Yes I am happy you rented cars because France is notorious for strikes, and public transportation inside or outside Paris is the Unions' favorite target to put gridlock in the country. But when Transportation si working, it is 20-30 mns to Paris. See the next review from Peter Dixon who stayed after you and experienced this exact time. 4/ it was indeed a bit humid when you were there because of the recent floods, but it is all dried up now. 5/ While our property manager is French, I always mentioned that I am here for your questions since I have the homeaway/vrbo on my phone and can answer questions live. The WiFi was strengthened since you left. The on/off you experienced was not from the WiFi, it was from the France Telecom service interruptions due to the floods. Sorry about that, but it is out of our control. We loved hosting you and we are looking forward to seeing you and your friends in the future. Cheers, Richard

family holiday

Had a wonderful time staying in this magnificent mansion in Poigny la Foret, very comfortable and furnished beautifully.

Great for our 2 families, 12 people staying all together.

Florence, the manager who met us there on our arrival, was a lovely lady and very helpful.

A very peaceful town and great for some relaxing country time.

Thankyou Richard for all your help and hope to revisit some time.

The next morning, you will wake up full of energy and serenity, ready to go for another day of Parisian adventures and delicacies.
