|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
From this sun lit clearing in the 3.5 acre woods along the Door County shore, visitors will experience the tranquility, the freshness, and the beauty of this peninsula. The backyard makes a perfect morning birding site. Grab an afternoon nap on the deck. At night observe the brilliant sky and conduct your own meteor count. Awaken to the song birds; fall asleep to the sounds of waves. Explore the woods on the property, looking for wild flowers in the spring or visit any of several local parks, located nearby: Newport Park, Door Bluff County Park. Hike or bike the local roads summer and fall or head for many designated hiking areas. Sled the lane in the winter and x-country at nearby trails. Take a short walk to the local coffee house in Gills Rock for morning coffee or midmorning cherry pie. Have dinner at The Shore Line Restaurant in Gills Rock , one of Door's best restaurants; it, too, is just a short stroll.
Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Once again we are so glad to have had a chance to stay here and enjoy time away from Chicago to relax and spend time in the "quiet." We hope to be calling you in the future. Your place is fantastic and just what we needed. Have a fantastic summer
We had a wonderful time at the 'Little House on the Bay'. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and the cottage provided us with seclusion and a beautiful retreat that we desired. The cottage had everything we needed. It was clean and in good repair. We loved the stairs down to the lakes edge. We also enjoyed a fire in the pit in the back yard. It was great to be away from the hustle and bustle of the bigger towns yet close enough to visit when we wanted to. I would love to return to the 'Little House' in the future.
My family and I stayed at the "Little House on the Bay" and we had a awesome time. The location is spectacular, and the steps to the rocks down by the water are really nice. We saw a little red fox, mother deer, and a baby fawn decided to lay in the grass near the driveway. Needless to say, that was really cool for the kids. The location provides a peaceful getaway and the sunsets are really great. We enjoyed watching the boats and seagulls all the time. The location provides a great spot to drive to shops in Gills Rock, or down the road to Sister Bay as well. We were only 2 miles from the Boat Ferry to Washington Island, which also was a fun time. In addition had a charter to go fishing and caught some Salmon! Our family really loved everything about the little house and the quiet, peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed all the trees, rocks and flowers as well. Thanks Dan & Cynthia for a great vacation, and hope to return someday.
Our family of four, plus our dog, all loved our weekend stay at Little House on the Bay. The location is beautiful, peaceful and convenient. We loved walking and admiring the views from the entire "tip of the thumb" area. The view of the lake is just spectacular, and the stairway to the water is really a work of art! We drove to the Emphraim bay area to watch the sunset, but, then discovered that the view right from our window when we got back to "Little house" was the most awesome!
The owners are friendly and easy to work with. Thanks so much for a memorable weekend, Dan and Cynthia!
My husband, teen-aged daughter and our little poodle Sugar thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at Little House on the Bay. The breathtaking views, the peace and quiet of this safe neighborhood were some of the reasons this was a great fit for our family. We have been coming to Door County for many years and we found this cottage to have everything we needed for our stay. To echo what others have said, if you want all the amenities, look elsewhere. Clean and safe are important to us. For us it was perfect. Great care was spent to make sure that the beautiful staircase leading down to the waters edge was safe and secure. Our pictures of the view don't do it justice. Truly a great retreat for us, thanks again to Dan and Cynthia!
The listing for this property was not totally accurate; understated, very understated. This is a beautiful property on a very quiet little corner of peaceful heaven. No noise, except nature. The house and property are picturesque and rural. If you are looking for a property with high end amenities and resort style furnishings, this is not for you. If you are looking to re-capture the simplicity of Wisconsin cottage life in a natural setting, then this is the place. The house is well maintained and has every conceivable amenity required. All the basics in working order plus comfortable beds, furniture, spic and span clean, safe and secure. If you need anything “extra”, bring it from home. I would definitely recommend this property on the view alone. Great restaurant, "The Shoreline" within walking distance but all the amenities you need to grill or cook at the house....and yes, I did see a bald eagle flying just over the tree tops early one morning sipping coffee on the patio. So many varieties of birds, I had to look them up in the reference guide left in the house. Fell asleep reading in the chairs outside in the sunshine more than once. From the ships going back and forth from Washington Island and a few barges farther out to the magnificent sunsets, this property is relaxing, comfortable and peaceful. Dan was a pleasure to work with and easily replied to email, text or calls. Such wonderful hosts. See you again soon!
My son and I stayed at Little House on the Bay in August. The view is breathtaking, we enjoyed everything about the house it is comfortable and very much like home. The big bay window lets you enjoy the view. We were able to grill our dinner and there is a bon fire pit. We would definitely stay there again and plan to in 2016 or before. The beds are comfortable and it is very cozy. It is also very close to the ferry that goes over to Washington Island.
