About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Enjoy our 2 BR traditional Maine shore cottage with spectacular views of Petit Manan Island lighthouse, Bois Bubert Island, Pigeon Hill Bay and the north Atlantic. Cottage sits on 1 3/4 acres with over 350 feet of rocky and sandy Maine shore just steps from the front door. Our cottage is located within one hour of Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park at the gateway to Downeast Maine and Maritime Canada. Spend a week or a month exploring our Maine coast paradise and the North Woods.

Cottage sleeps up to six persons comfortably (double bed in master bedroom; two twin beds in 2d BR; comfortable queen pull-out sleeper in the Great Room) and has a full kitchen fully stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Master BR connects directly to full bath with secondary access for all guests. 120 channel satellite TV for those rare instances when you can pull yourself away from the spectacular beauty of Petit Manan Point.

Cottage is located on a quiet, dead end, two lane rural road 1/2 mile from the entrance to the Petit Manan (Coastal Islands) National Wildlife Refuge, home to more wild bird sightings than any other NWR. Enjoy shore walks in the Refuge and wildlife cruises to nearby islands where you can see puffins, terns, and whales. Lounge in front of our cottage's 25' of continuous windows overlooking Pigeon Hill Bay and the north Atlantic where you can regularly see bald eagles, ospreys, loons, cormorants, buffleheads, eiders, and dozens of other sea birds. Occasional deer, porcupine, fox, Maine black bear and moose sightings in the woods depending on season. Song birds, spruce grouse, flickers, and woodpeckers populate the Refuge and nearby woods. All in all, Petit Manan Point is a nature lover's paradise.

About Robert Hauhart

I am a former public interest attorney who now teaches criminal justice, sociology and law at a small liberal arts college in Washington state.

Robert Hauhart purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Robert Hauhart chose Downeast and Acadia

We purchased the cottage when we lived on the east coast. It was fully renovated in 1998 and offers contemporary comfort in a traditional fisherman's style cottage overlooking a working bay. You can see the local lobstermen pull their traps directly in front our cottage throughout the season and buy locally caught lobsters and fish down the road.

What makes this cottage unique

The quiet, rural location on a dead end road invites early morning and after dinner walks along the shore, coffee or drink in hand.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for us. Ocean views out of large picture windows, and ocean access right across the road. 1/2 mile from a federal wildlife nature preserve, with blueberry fields and hiking trails. Quiet, peaceful. Spotty cell phone reception, but it was good for us to disconnect for a few weeks. We really liked the open floor plan and well equipped kitchen. The bed was as comfortable as ours at home, and it was so quiet we had no trouble sleeping. I never get tired of watching the changing tides. We recommend this cottage highly.

Rustic cabin, with all essentials for wonderful authentic Maine experience.

  • 5 of 5

One can cross the street, follow the path through the lupins, to sit on a bench overlooking the bay. Perfect position to see across to island, nearby Petit Manon Lighthouse, and various lobster boat fishermen hauling their catch. Freshly caught lobsters on sale down the road. Comfortable beds, sofa, and chairs. Fully equipped kitchen. Petit Manon Refuge a short drive and walk away for hiking and nature enthusiasts. Hospitable knowledgeable, agreeable host on site. Foggy area of Maine Down East coast adds to allure.

A Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Having spent the last 13 years at this cottage has been an excellent experience to say the least. The views of Pigeon Hill Bay are a source of constant change. The sunrises and sunsets fill one with awe. The hiking trails are close and fun to walk. Cannot say anymore than a fantastic place to spend some time.
