Winfield Lake is mostly a spring fed lake with small inlet and outlet. The lake is about 129 acres and is 60' deep at the deepest point. The bottom of the lake is sandy near the shore although as you go out it becomes softer and weedy. There is a nice buoyed swim area at the park also on the other side of the lake. The lake offers good fishing for Large mouth Bass, Pike, Crappie, and Pan fish.
This is a very nice little getaway cottage. The owners were very quick to respond and very helpful. This getaway was a an old college friends weekend, the open living area is great for family/friend get-togethers. There are a few things that would make it slightly better. GPS brought each of us in a different way, so a map on the listing would be great as there was no house number on one side of the house. Also, there was no lamps or light in the living room (missing light in the ceiling fan) so it was very dark in the living room at night. The bar lights went out on our second night there but oddly came back on the next morning. I'm assuming there is a cleaning service for this cottage after renters? It was clean, but there was foil and crusty french fries in the oven when we got to the cottage, kinda gross, just fyi. This cottage has a very well equipped kitchen and lots of beds. Overall, this was a sweet stay. Unfortunately it rained the entire time we were there and there isn't much of a town around to do indoor things, but with good weather there wouldn't be any need to leave, especially in the summer time.
Relaxing and quiet. Great place for family with children. We grilled out, had campfires, swam, used the paddle boat, visited the park across the lake, walked the country roads, caught frogs and fish, and just had an overall fun family experience.
Accurate description and pictures of cottage. Owner very responsive to questions asked. Lake was quiet with beautiful sunsets. Slept 6 comfortably. Bathroom small but adequate. Clean. Beach had some sand but weedy and the lake was silty/mucky. Lake was not good for swimming due to shallowness and weediness. We brought kayaks and a jet ski. Boat launch very close to cottage. Had linens including pillows, blankets and bath towels. Queen bed comfortable. Could have used some more bowls for storage, cookie sheet, pot holders, 9x13pan, kitchen towels, new can opener. Lots of windows to open and fans. No air conditioning. We had a nice relaxing week!
No complaints. Pictures are accurate. Cottage is nicely updated with plenty of open space for people and gear. Well maintained and clean inside and out. Trees provide nice shade. Shallow area of lake and sand patch were perfect for small children. I would come back again.
