Double insulation in ceilings and walls offer great sound privacy. Abundant light from enormous windows. Gas fireplace. Custom steel railings throughout and spiral staircase to lower bedroom that has a privacy curtain but no door. Chef's kitchen with Bosch double wall convection ovens, Sub Zero refrigerator, Bosch dishwasher and cook-top, quartz stone counters, floor-to-ceiling maple cabinetry and breakfast bar. Second bedroom on the lower level has a new (June 2016) queen sized bed with 4 pillows. Two sets of linens. Many towels. No door at the bottom of the spiral stairs but there is a curtain and with all of the sound absorbing materials you have to shout to be heard from the lower bedroom to the next floor above.
Common shared large deck in the rear of the building with an amazing tree canopy. The car are has gated parking with entrance door to building right next to the parking spot. *****Laundry in the unit.***** Notice: Some construction on the corner of the block. No significant noise anymore. Very quiet at night and throughout the day.
Greetings fellow travelers! I am retired for the most part and spend my winters in Florida or the Caribbean, summers in Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and the rest of my time in Boston. My professional career started as a house painter and then bartender and ended in real estate and construction, my fun and passion. I've traveled Europe a number of times and lots of time in Costa Rica, Panama and a few other Caribbean countries. I hope to one day visit Cuba again!! I speak a little Spanish but can understand it more. I love to immerse myself in the local culture during my travels. I've never been on a cruise and I don't do "all inclusive" resorts... : ), at least not yet. Give me a good suggestion for one!

I had been living in a wonderful old brick townhouse for 8 years in the Bay Village neighborhood of downtown Boston built around 1840 and I had an opportunity to buy this great open loft space in the western part of the South End. The raw space was too interesting to pass up so I bought one unit in the building. I hired an architect and together we pieced my ideas into the space. It took two years of build-out and nearly drove me crazy but in the end it was so worth it. The loft is such a great place to entertain for intimate dinners. That being said, no big parties are allowed in the unit. Thank you for understanding!
Large 10 foot tall windows supply great natural light. The views are city like with an historic building across the street with trees surrounding the property. The ceiling volumes are tremendous. Original cast iron structural post and ancient chestnut wood beams throughout most of the ceilings. You will definitely feel like you are on vacation and in a home like atmosphere here. One car parking but walk able to dozens of restaurants within 5 to 15 minutes.
My review is slightly conflicted. Let me start by saying Paul and his partner were always very nice to me and even went so far as to invite me to dinner a few times.
However here is my problem. I am a travel nurse (go to a new hospital for 13 weeks and then move on) and was coming to Boston for my first travel assignment over 1600 miles from home in Oklahoma.
When I found Pauls place I explained to him my situation, that I couldn't afford all three months up front, how I get paid by my company, and that I would love to rent his place so would he be willing to work with that situation. He agreed on the premise that I could give a deposit before each new month to guarantee that I would actually be staying. I had no problem with that so I went ahead and rented his place for the first month.
Not even a full week after being there Paul changed his mind and wanted basically the next two months up front or he would be renting it to someone else. I offered up the deposit scenario again, and even offered to pay weekly but he was no longer willing to work with me after thinking about it. So I was then 1600 miles from home, by myself in an unfamiliar city and basically being kicked out of the housing I thought I had for the 3 months I would be here.
Also, although I personally never felt unsafe, when every single person I worked with at the hospital found out where I was living, they were all extremely worried about me walking to and from the hospital because it's apparently a dangerous part of the city. You can also hear most noises coming through the walls. That may just be normal in a bigger, louder city than what I'm used to though.
I absolutely loved staying here. Communication with Paul was easy and frequent, especially within the last couple days prior to my arrival. The location itself is close to the silver line which made it easy to get around the city. The room I stayed in was exactly what I needed. Would highly recommend staying here to anyone and when I come back to town next time, I'll be contacting Paul to stay again. Thanks for the great hospitality!
Paul and Tray were amazing roommates!! I worked night shift while staying with them and they were so considerate. I was able to sleep during the day without being disturbed. They made me feel at home. It was an amazing experience!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Boston. I was in Boston for work and had the privilege of being at 8 Newcomb St. which is owned by Paul. Paul was a gracious host and attended to my needs while there. Although I never met Paul it was as if we knew each other. I would definitely recommend 8 Newcomb St,. to any potential visitors to Boston.
I would recommend this apartment in Boston to anyone. The place was nice, spacious and warm, The Landlord had great respect for me and worked with me in every way to make my stay worthwhile.
The place is truly fantastic, as the pics show. Big, open, bright. Everything is new and modern. Everything but the neighborhood, but don't let that deter you.
The apartment is an easy walk from the better neighborhood restaurants, but they're not right around the corner. No worries, you're an easy cab ride from anywhere and you'll have lots of great indoor space to enjoy when you stay in. We have an eleven year-old and the three of us were very comfortable.
Paul was super nice and accommodating. Easy to contact and quick to respond. We'd come back for our next Boston visit, for sure.
Just a three minute walk away to the Silver Line which connects with downtown Boston and other transit lines. Also it will bring you directly to Logan International Airport. Uber and Lyft car sharing apps are very helpful to get around town and help you avoid paying parking meters and getting parking tickets!! Zipcar location is a ten minute walk away on Albany Street.
