About Sid and Kate Hawes

We are a husband and wife team, a commercial airline pilot and nurse anesthetist respectively, so to say we have an eye for detail may be an understatement. We love lake living and are excited to share the experience with you. If we can do anything to make your stay more enjoyable, always let us know!

Sid and Kate Hawes purchased this house in 2014

Why Sid and Kate Hawes chose North Carolina Piedmont

We love lake living. We discovered this diamond in the rough in September of 2014 and we knew with a lot of work it could become something special. Originally built in 2007, but largely unfinished, we relished putting our personal touches on this custom built home.

What makes this house unique

Lake views from 4 of the bedrooms as well as main living areas. Located at the base of the lake, near the dam, with access to entire lake and deep water. Luxury accommodations. Spacious, with almost 5000 sq feet of well appointed living.

Fabulous House for Family Gatherings

  • 5 of 5

Our family just celebrated Thanksgiving at this lovely home. We slept nine in the house and on Thanksgiving Day had 16 people around the tables. It never felt crowded and the house has something for everyone: a wonderful screened in porch for the older generation, a fire pit for the college kids, and a movie theater and ping pong table for the children. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and utensils, and we had all we needed to cook and serve a large traditional Thanksgiving meal. We loved that it was next to a nature preserve and each day some members of the family enjoyed walking or running the beautiful trails there. And my husband is a kayak fisherman and says that High Rock lake is his new favorite fishing spot after catching fish every day there, including a 30 inch striped bass! Thank you for sharing this special retreat with us.

Wonderful Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long Memorial Day weekend with some extended family at the Hawes' beautiful home. It was perfect. The house is nicely remodeled, very spacious and comfortable. Although there is no private dock, the neighborhood dock right next door was just as good. We made great use of the waterfront, theater room, grill and ping-pong table. The owners were very responsive and helpful. I would give my highest recommendation.

Quiet, spacious, luxurious home on a easy lake

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here in June for approximately ten days was terrific for our family of five. The home is modern, spacious and most comfortable for all members of the family. Cable TV, well appointed kitchen, outdoor deck with screen, comfortable beds and bunks for kids if they desire. We rented a pontoon boat and a jet ski from a nearby operator to joy ride around during the day and early evenings and found High Rock Lake to be warm and calm with little boat traffic. The private boat dock is just in front making easy to run back and forth.. In the evenings we enjoyed a simple camp fire and watched fireflies dance about. I would recommend this home for anyone, we had a great time.

We had a long over due reunion of college friends that had not seen each other in over 40 years. The home was just perfect and the lake was just great. The neighbors are wonderful and so very friendly.

We had a wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

The house is everything you see in the pictures and so much more. Everything is very nicely done, sleep number beds and one of everything you may need. We had a group of 15 and there was more than enough room for everyone.

The ramp was easily accusable and has plenty of space. Getting over to the community dock that we used all week was simple. The dock is in about 15 feet of water so boats have no worries of drafting issues. We enjoy High Rock lake because it is much quitter and far less busy than lake Norman.

The Hawes were such a pleasure to rent from, they called mid week to make sure that we hade everything we needed. When I asked Sid where I could go dump garbage because the large group was producing a lot of trash he had someone to the house in about an hour to take care of it for us.

We have stayed in several houses over the years on High Rock Lake depending on the size of the group but we have found our spot we will continue to back too. If you needed a larger size house and rent from anyone else your doing yourself a great disservice.

Great place to celebrate Mother's Day!

  • 5 of 5

Kate was very responsive and went above and beyond to accommodate the short time (and short notice) we wanted to stay. My father is handicapped and we needed somewhere he could easily get around in with a wheelchair. It was a bit difficult to get him in with the few stairs at the entry, but once inside my parent's stayed in the master bedroom on the main floor and all was very convenient for them and the views from that floor are the best in the house. They were very happy. It was a much needed get away for them and the house was perfect. We even went out on a boat (nearby Tamarac Marina) for a few hours on Sunday.

I am a chef and am used to bringing all my own knives and such, but with everything we needed to bring for my Dad, I didn't get the chance to this time. And luckily I didn't have to. They have a very well stocked kitchen and that makes for a much more relaxing time for me. Thank you Kate and Sid for a relaxing weekend. We would definitely stay here again.
