Train/road noise? The Westfir/Oakridge area is on the main line of a major railroad. The City of Westfir is within a "no whistle zone" so train noise is limited- however you will still hear the train, especially the heavy freight trains going uphill. We have noticed that Friday night seems to have the most trains. We are on the main road through town and there can be some traffic noise from time to time. We find the noise kind of soothing but if you don't, we have some earplugs in the bathroom cabinet just in case.
Is the cottage a place for guests with young children? Due to proximity to road and river guests with young children should be advised to be extra vigilant.
The whole house is yours to enjoy with a washing machine, fully stocked kitchen, towels and linens and cozy furniture. Westfir has one small store, a bed & breakfast, nearby golf course. Oakridge is a larger town a few minutes by car away, with more stores and restaurants and amenities. You will have the place to yourselves, we will be just an email or phone call away.
The Cottage is in Westfir a small city of almost 300 surrounded by beautiful National Forest. The office covered bridge- the longest covered bridge in Oregon- is located here. The north fork of the middle fork of the Willamette river is designated “Wild and Scenic” just past the bridge. The Aufderheide scenic byway starts here too. Grab a burger at the Westfir Store or some suds at the Westfir Lodge.
What to do? All sorts of two wheel fun-mountain, road and motor biking. The famous Alpine mountain bike trail overlooks the cottage. Huckleberry flats OHV area has over 30 miles of trails for both motorcycles and ATVs. You can also enjoy hiking, boating, birding, hunting, fishing and kayaking.
Visit Oakridge a short 4 miles away, where you can shop the thrift shop St Vinnies, or have a great micro brew in the trendy uptown area. Rent a bicycle or dine on pizza, burgers and some of the best Chinese food in the state(Lee's) -and don't forget the deli at Ray's food place for something tasty to go. Take a drive to McCredie Hot Springs and Salt Creek Falls they are just up the hill on Highway 58.
Diamond Express a part of Lane Transit Service has a stop less than 2 miles away.
What is the capacity for people, bicycles, and wheelchairs on the vehicle?
The primary Diamond Express bus is a 35 passenger vehicle with two spaces for persons who use a mobility device. This bus also includes a front mounted bicycle rack that holds three bikes. At the driver's discretion, additional bicycles can be placed on board. Sometimes the back-up vehicle must make the run. It is smaller and can only carry two bikes and fewer people.

The River Cottage was the first privately owned home in Westfir built by Harry in the 1920's. Grandpa Harry was a saw filer for the Westfir Lumber Company- later purchased by Hines- He hand selected the best lumber from the mill and built most of the house himself. When we had the new windows put in the workers were amazed how square and straight the opening were. Harry and Mildred raised two children in the this small home. They were simple people who had lived through the depression and rarely threw anything away. Harry had a large garden and Mildred canned or froze the produce. Their son James was the first in the family to attend college in Eugene at the UofO. After graduation he came back to Westfir and worked as a manager for the mill eventually becoming mill manager.
In 1997 my dad bought out his sister who had let the place fall into disrepair-blackberry vines actually had to be taken off the roof. He called in the best local craftsmen to repair and rejuvenate the home. Our family has been using it since then. From the time our kids were little they just loved coming up to the cottage. One of our favorite pastimes in sitting on the front porch and watching the many bikers and motor-bikers go by. We call it being porch “monkey's”. It's a great spot to watch the traffic go by, drink a beverage and solve the world's problems.
We live out of the area but have a great support team. You will have the cottage to yourselves. We will be only a phone call or email away.
Owner/ Manager purchased this cottage in 1925

RIVER VIEW :))))
We spent three nights in the lovely cottage. The AC was great for keeping it comfortable but to be honest we spent the nights on our cots down by the river and the days in the river. The space is great for a small family or a couple of good friends though the second toilet and the shower are very...ummm...public. We rode our mountain bikes for three days right from the cottage and loved it. Buy groceries in Oakridge before heading to Westfir, the Budweiser in the Westfir market had a best by date from July 2015. By the third night we didn't even hear the train. Thanks for great experience, we would definitely stay here again.
This cottage had one of the best backyards for morning coffee by the river,an evening glass of wine, reading or a nap.Easy access to mountain bike trailheads was a bonus. I asked a lot of questions before booking, and Julie said "she would rather under promise and over deliver",and she did! Thanks, from two Michigan mountain bikers
I spent five nights at the cottage while on a fishing trip. The cottage was clean and very comfortable. While the cottage is close to the road, there was a lot of privacy in the backyard down by the river. A great place for an afternoon nap or to enjoy the river view. You can definitely hear the train, but I noticed it less after the first day. The At&t cellular signal was weak and intermittent. I would not count on using your phone for a mobile hotspot. The cottage accurately matched description and pictures provided and is centrally located to all the activities the area has to offer. My security deposit was returned promptly. Overall, I had a great stay and would not hesitate to stay here again.
This place is ideal for anyone wanting a nice cozy place to stay in a beautiful setting.
The house is well kept and has all the amenities of home.
It's close enough to town to go grab groceries or a bite to eat.
For us it was ideal as for our group of mountain bikers as it is at the bottom of one of the best trails in the area.
Other that the occasional train goin by it was super quite and ypu mostly heard the river flowing and the wind blowing in the trees.
I am hoping to come back again soon.
My husband and I stayed here for 18 days waiting for our new home to be ready. We loved the clean, well stocked little home so much we hated,to leave. The owners Julie and Paul seem just like family. We would recommend this in a heartbeat. Very comfortable. Places to shop and eat near by and we even found our Kingdom Hall right up the road for,Sunday service. We fished in the river, and took our boat out on the lakes. We had a great time. Don't miss out on this little Westfir gem.
Waiting for our newly purchased Springfield home to be ready my husband and I rented the Anthony House or Westfir Cottage, for 18 days. We loved this comfortable lovely little home. It was so conveniently stocked with paper goods, laundry soap for the great little washer and dryer, anything one would need in the kitchen, a great little electric BBQ, access to a beautiful river and I even saw an eagle one morning when I stepped out of the shower on the cool little enclosed porch. Places to eat and shop right up the road and we were so delighted to find our own little Kingdom Hall right up the road for Sunday service. Fantastic. You will also love your hosts Julie and Paul. I feel like I gained a couple new family members. Don't miss out on the opportunity to stay here.
