About Tammy

Both of us are 'Yankees'! New Jersey (what exit?) & Ohio (Go Buckeyes), transplanted to sunny South Florida in the 70's. Missing the change of seasons and starting over, we both moved to the mountains in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Known as 'halfbacks' here. (we only made it half way back to the north.) We do love the mountains and all they have to offer. We have 6 children between us and 7 grandchildren. So we are kid friendly and also pet friendly. Spencer, our rescued lab mix fur baby is anxious to make friends with your fur baby.

Tammy purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Tammy chose Bryson City Area

The Cottage was originally bought for an aging parent, so they could come to the mountains to be near us. After all the kids left home, (yes we are empty nesters,) we toyed with the idea of starting The Cottage and that is how it came to fruition. We have just finished our 7th year and we are looking forward to future years. With the addition of The Cottage "too" and the Cozy Nook we are the perfect place for family reunions. everyone can be together yet have your own space. The new friends we have made, have been a blessing.

What makes this cottage unique

Built in 1925, is has been totally renovated, keeping some of the old qualities, the original porcelain farm sink and table in the kitchen to the original old doors and doorknobs, all in working order. Some of the old windows hang on the wall as added decor. We are convenient to downtown and all the surrounding area attractions. Yet it is quiet and relaxing. Weather you're sitting on the porch listening to the sounds of the mountains or sitting by the campfire enjoying hot dogs and marshmallows. The summer months bring an incredible light show of lightening bugs for the children to enjoy and catch in what we call the lower forty.

This Place is FANTASTIC!

  • 5 of 5

This place is so charming, quiet and peaceful yet it is just seconds away from Bryson City and the restaurants as well as being located next to all of the attractions in the area. The Cottage is very comfy, beautifully decorated and extremely clean. Loved the fact that it was pet friendly, and had plenty of room for our truck and trailer (we hauled up our Harley). The owners are wonderful. We felt like it was our home away from home. We will be definitely being returning in the near future. Kudos to Tammy and Danny! (Owners)

Great house, friendliest owners!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, I have been using VRBO for 5 years now and have always had a great experience. This house was not only a perfect home for our eclipse vacation, but we enjoyed getting to know Tammy and Danny (and their family). I realise that we were there for a unique experience - given that many people had the day off for the eclipse, we ended up watching it with Tammy and her family. They even invited us to have dinner with them afterwards. I used to work with exchange students, and sharing a day and meal with people from a different part of the country was a fantastic experience, and a great surprise!

(however, I'm sure that if you are the sort of person who wants to keep to yourself, Tammy has a great intuition and would be cool with that...though you'd be missing out!)

So about the house, it's about a half mile from town. Some of the walk doesn't have a sidewalk, but it's not a busy road so we felt perfectly comfortable walking down with our 6-year old. The patio was excellent for meals (lunch might have been too sunny, but breakfast and dinner were perfect!). The kitchen is possibly the best-stocked kitchen I have seen in a VRBO - it had everything from a bundt pan to a pizza stone to a slow cooker! (we actually made pizza one night because of the pizza stone!) Only thing I didn't see was a cookie sheet for baking cookies, but I bet Tammy would have loaned one if you needed it. Plenty of aprons and dishtowels too, which I really like in a rental. The couch and easy chair in the living room were SOOO comfortable and we spent a lot of time relaxing. There were also some wonderfully cozy blankets which we used all the time. There is a closet of games and movies, which was fun for all of us. The bedrooms were generously-sized and the beds comfortable. Washer & dryer were surprisingly fast and efficient for a rental!

Finally, the pool! Second-best thing about this place, after meeting Tammy & Danny. It was SUCH a great thing to get to swim every day. It is a refreshing and surprisingly large pool, with plenty of toys and floats and chairs. It was a great incentive for our 6 year old to be cooperative, because the pool was such a great reward (and I loved it too!).

This location is about a 8-minute drive to Deep Creek and 14-minute drive to the trails off Lakeview, so perfect for your Smokey Mountain needs. We want to come back soon - even after a week there, there's still so much left to explore and enjoy! Thank you Tammy!

Owner's Response: Karin, it was our pleasure to get to spend the big event with you and Nick and Joey. What a great day it was and we had a wonderful time getting to know your sweet and kind family. Glad you enjoyed our place so much and the cozy blankets, (that's what I thought when i got them) We would love to have you come back and see us again. P.S. There were 2 cookie sheets under the 9x13 cake pan, muffin pan, broiler, and lasagna pan in the drawer of the stove I try really hard to stock it well, thank you for the compliment and the great review See you again hopefully.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the kind words Pat & Jerral. It was a blessing to meet you as well. God puts the right people in our paths at the right time. Danny hated that he didn't get to have more time to chat with Jerral as well. Thank again for the lovely plate from Savannah I will treasure it always. As you know Savannah holds a special place in my heart. We look forward to you returning. Maybe for Danny's maiden voyage. :) By the way we have a contract on 14 acres of land for The Bridge church in Cullowhee. Praise God.
