We are all season outdoor adventurers. We love hiking, backpacking, nordic and downhill skiing, street and mountain biking, boating, and fishing. We discovered Seward back in '05 and found the scenery and friendly people irresistible.
Steve and Pati Hinds purchased this house in 2006
We built this home in 2006. A simple and functional floor plan on our 3 acre property. It's a quiet rural neighborhood with lots of open space on the edge of the Alaskan Wilderness.
When staying at our house you have access to free fire wood, extra clothing (if needed), rubber boots , sleeping bags and pads, and even bear spray!
We started looking for places to stay in Seward over the Fourth of July and started looking later than we should have given the popularity of the Mt. Marathon race. . . and, boy, are we glad we did!
We found this gem about 6 miles out of town. It is a spacious yet cozy & quaint; nicely furnished (comfy beds!) AND has a chest freezer for us fishermen to store our catch. A stone's throw away from Bear Creek on a beautiful piece of property. It is well appointed with everything you could need; from a well-stocked kitchen with an impressive collection of spices to the adjacent wood shed with pre-spilt firewood. This place has it all.
The owner, Steve, lives right next door and couldn't have been nicer. We invited him to join us around our campfire and he and his friend brought their guitar and mandolin over. We were up until WAY past midnight having a great time singing songs and having the best time! He even insisted that our extra guests (who were staying in Downtown Seward) stay with us on the extra bedding he brought over from his house since they were a bit tipsy after hours of fun around the fire.
A fantastic Alaskan experience! We stayed at the fancy Alyeska lodge after we left this place and I wish we would have stayed with Steve instead!
If I am ever back in Seward, I hope this place is available!
The cabin was perfect! And having to full bathrooms was an extra bonus, especially with kids and a teenager. It was great being able to have a fire so close to the river, and hear nature. The kids had a blast playing in the creek and building with The Rock. I highly recommend this cabin. We are already planning our next trip. And the owner was fantastic and friendly.
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Steve was very friendly and gave us great restaurant suggestions. The cabin was very clean and well equipped. The highlight of our stay was the awesome campfire we were able to build with the wood Steve provided. We enjoyed watching the bald eagles fly over the campfire and riverbed. Our boat tour in Seward was wonderful, too! We saw whales, puffins, sea lions, bald eagles in addition to the amazing glaciers.
We loved the beautiful creek in the back of the house where the kids could skip stones and watch bald eagles in flight. The house was clean and spacious and included everything we needed. Owner Steve brought over some brand new pots and pans for us and was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area.
We found this property to be clean and comfortable. We liked that it was in a very quiet and dark location. The owner was friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
My husband and I from NH, daughter, son in law and 19 mo. old grandson from Maine and daughter who lives in Girdwood AK stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. The lodge is really nice and exceptionally clean. Linens and towels were provided which was a big plus. Steve is a sweetheart and made us a great fire our first night. The views are fabulous and really enjoyed the fire pit. Would love to stay there again when we come to visit our daughter. Thank you for opening up your home to us. I'm sorry that I didn't have time to write in the book but will send a letter and hopefully can be pasted in. It really is a piece of Heaven:)
