About Tanya Novosel & Stuart Miles
I left a brand new huge school in 1965 to move here from the Chicago suburbs with my parents and new baby brother. My father was so proud to show me the 2 room schoolhouse where I was going to attend first grade the following year I remember crying in the car and proclaiming that " I'm not going to go to school in someone's house! " We moved into the Wilderness Lodge and it became our private home ending the business it had been as one of the original housing options at Burke Mountain. My mother wasn't too sure what she was getting herself into moving from the city to Vermont and was scared of the bears but quickly grew to love it and the friendliness of the people here. Things have changed somewhat since then. That 2 room schoolhouse is now The East Burke School, a private secondary school. The public grade school has grown with the town and now has more than 2 rooms but still has the same small community feel that you will experience when you visit Burke. (It's still not even close to the size of that school I left!) I am now proud that I was fortunate enough to have gone to a two room schoolhouse. After leaving for a while to work in Boston at MGH, I have returned to Burke and have no intention of leaving again. (Except to visit the ocean with family members who live in more urban settings. That's where we vacation if we're not visiting other mountain towns.) My "little" brother, Gary now lives in upstate New York and has a family of his own. He remains very connected to the property and community here. My husband Stuart is a native Vermonter. He is a self employed carpenter who is responsible hands on for the latest Wilderness renovation as well as the new LCD TV. The available books and games were more my idea. He has lived in Montana and Hawaii as well but also chose to come back to Vermont. We live nearby with our dogs, Annie and Donnie. We enjoy everything that the outdoors has to offer and are happy to share it all with you
Why Tanya Novosel & Stuart Miles chose Burke
Since the passing of my parents we are pleased to return the house to it's roots by opening it up once again for guests to enjoy! We have retained the original name, Wilderness Lodge, in order to give a nod to bringing history forward.

Perfect location and wonderful hosts!
Our extended family stayed at Wilderness Lodge for our daughter's graduation from Burke Mountain Academy. Tanya and Stuart could not have been more accommodating and the location and layout of the home worked out perfectly. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Burke for skiing or mountain biking!
Everything was super!
I recommande it!
As describe and then some. Simply a beautiful home in an amazing state.
The house was perfect for us. Two guys away for a couple days to mountain bike at kingdom mt. It has everything you need to enjoy a few days away. We loved it and will certainly go back. Thank you for taking the time to make the home ready and nice for us!
Awesome location for biking or skiing. KT are pretty much right outside your door. The house was very clean and spacious. The kitchen has lots of utensils and cookware, which made eating in a breeze. I highly recommend to anyone looking to stay close to KT or Burke Mountain. Tanya was also a great host. She was really responsive and accommodating.
Love this place. Perfect location. Great utility. Everything we needed right there.
Fantastic house !
Thanks so much Tanya for this wonderful stay. Communication from the owners is top-notch ! They are easily reachable and make sure we have everything we need. The house was extremely clean and well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen, on the deck, in the bedrooms and bathrooms.
We spent some great time on the deck, using the brand new grill and playing Bocce in front of the house. Beds are very comfortable, and we appreciate a lot that Tanya stopped at the house on our first day to make sure everything was ok, and brought some newspaper to us.
The only thing that could have been better is that there is no A/C in the house. It was pretty hot inside the house and at night in the bedroom. However, the owners have place a few ventilators in the house to improve this situation, so this was ok. Location is perfect as well for hiking, biking and kayaking on the river. We plan to come back maybe in the winter to enjoy the house again !
