1920s cottage charm updated with simplistic modern comfort, all of the requisite nostalgia and convenience you need to enjoy a week by the sea. Eight people can stay comfortably between the three upstairs bedrooms, two of which feature ocean views, and a sleep sofa in the sun room downstairs. There is a queen bed in the master, full in the second bedroom and two twins in the third. In the "kids" room we've provided a small television with DVD player and small library of movies and books.
There are plenty of comfortable nooks and open areas to spread out on the main floor between the sun room, the living room with overstuffed couch and loveseat, picture window bench and seating for eight in the dining room. There is a flat screen smart TV in the living room you can access Netflix through for movie nights. Or chose from a number of games on the shelf. As cell phone connection is not extremely strong we have provided a land line telephone with unlimited long distance anywhere in the US and Canada.
The large wraparound porch is the perfect location for morning coffee while listening to the harbor bells or sunset happy hours.
The very best part is the location. New Harbor is a picturesque village with a strong and ongoing history of lobstering. You can watch the lobster boats come and go right from the end of the drive. We are a very short walk to Rachel Carson Tidal Pool teaming with sea life. Less than two miles from sandy Pemaquid Beach and less than five miles from Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. You can also walk from the house to Shaw's Fish and Lobster Wharf or take the Hardy Boat Tours to see puffins or out to Monhegan Island.
The house is very nice, large, authentic and the same time comfortable, well equipped ... She was well situated for us with the ability to walk to a small pebble beach and a restaurant. Kirsten was in Vermont, but communication has been very easy. She was a very good hostess, very effective.
My 2 sons and I had a wonderful stay at this Maine cottage. The location was perfect, and we loved the fact that we could bring our yellow lab. We walked to the Hardy Boat cruises for a day on Monhegan, played in the tidal pools and relaxed. My only complaint, and it really isn't much to complain about, was the lack of some cooking supplies, like a muffin tin (I bought one and gifted it to the house). House could use baking sheets and some bigger frying pans... but that's it!
Everything about our stay was lovely. The cottage is adorable and very well maintained. Kirsten is a responsive and warm host. New Harbor is quaint and beautiful. The Hardy Boat to Monhegan Island is a short walking distance from the house, and it is a must-do! Such wonderful hiking with amazing views. Thank you, Kirsten and Jason for sharing your cottage!
