About the property

This Relaxing, Elegant And Cool Mountain Cottage Awaits You!

The perfect, peaceful getaway for those on a honeymoon or looking for a relaxing, romantic experience. This warm, welcoming, newly-built and finely crafted studio cottage provides modern comfort while retaining the spirit of old Hawaii. This mountain paradise is surrounded by native Hawaiian ohia and pine trees. The Cottage at Ohia Place is situated in North Kona, at a cool 1600' elevation on Mount Hualalai.

The cottage is close proximity to Kailua Kona village, shopping, restaurants, beaches, activities, the harbor, hiking trails and upcountry golf courses. The airport is 15 minutes away.

The accommodation features open beam wood ceilings, ohia hardwood floors, mahogany and granite kitchen, brand-new queen -sized bed (with a Memory Foam topper), large slate shower, fully equipped kitchen with new appliances and a lovely lanai that enhances the inside/outside lifestyle of Hawaii.

The cottage is 720 sq feet under roof, including the lanai.

Your host will provide you with details about the many island activities, tours, sight-seeing, beaches and cultural experiences as well as shopping and restaurants, all within an easy driving distance from your home.

Born and raised in Kona, the host's father was one of the founders of the sports fishing business in Kona in the early 50s; she and her family remain closely involved with the fishing community. She has spent her professional life welcoming guests and connecting them to the rich traditions of the islands. We love the island of Hawaii: the vastness, the colorful and unique local customs, the sunshine and sunsets of the Kona Coast, and the hunting and fishing traditions of the Big Island.

A vintage picnic basket is available for your pleasure. If you're headed out to explore the island. You are welcome to use a cold bag for shopping, cooler, beach chairs and towels.

This is a place you will call home... will want to remember... and will return to.

Absolutely the Best Honeymoon Hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

Upon arriving we were amazed at the beauty of this cottage! Pictures do it no justice! Gale greeted us at the gate.. She was amazing! Everything from the gate to the front door to the inside and out of this little piece of paradise was immaculate! If we could give more than 5 stars we would!

The tall ceilings gave the room a bigger feel and windows on every side of the cottage made the place feel so airy. The kitchen is big and has all of the essentials plus more. There were fresh seasonal fruits waiting for us and Gale's famous bread! YUM! The bathroom is very large and also airy with screens you can keep open. The place is equipped with Netflix which honestly we did not use much! Gale has so much advice for us and all of the guide books for hiking and touring (great because we did not have to pay for them at the visitor centers).

We were able to do laundry (less packing!) It was so quiet and we had complete privacy! We will definitely keep this place bookmarked for the next time we come to the big island and to recommend it to friends and family!

THANK YOU!

The Only Place to Stay in Kona (for couples)

  • 5 of 5

There is so much to be said about this cottage. First, it is stunningly beautiful. Every detail has been thoughtfully addressed by the owner. There simply aren't enough words to describe how amazing this place is. This is the romantic cottage you've always dreamt of building on a tropical island. Amazing kitchen, comfortable furnishings, luxurious bed, two shower options (one walk-in, the other is outdoors!). The Lanai is a thing of beauty looking out over the coast through the tropical forest. It's existence is due to the love and attention the owners have given to it. It is shares the property with their home, and their dog. The owners embody everything you've been lead to believe about Hawaiians and the Aloha spirit.

Being here, it is hard not to occasionally think about the coming day when you have to leave and be very sad deep down inside because you'll know, without doubt, you'd retire and live in this cottage and life your life would be complete.

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Now I know why the reviews are all excellent. Our stay during the first week of November in "The Cottage At Ohia Place" was outstanding. Everything you read in the reviews is right on. The cottage is beautiful down to the furnishings and kitchen ware. The property is within minutes of the airport, restaurants and beaches. I can't speak more highly of Gale who was an outstanding host and went above and beyond after my wife had an unpleasant encounter with a spiney sea creature while snorkeling. Thanks Gale for everything. We look forward to seeing you again on our next trip to the big island.

5+ stars ...more if we could!

  • 5 of 5

I won't bore you with repeating everything everyone else has said in their reviews except to say THEY'RE ALL TRUE!!! This is THE place to stay if you're coming to the Big Island...Gale has thought of everything to make your stay the best possible, and she is the kindest, most thoughtful hostess we have encountered so far...thank you Ms. Gale for welcoming us to your property, thank you for making our engagement special...and thank you for the banana bread!!!

One thing folks, if you do stay here, you must promise to treat The Cottage at Ohia Place with respect and love...it and Ms. Gale deserve that honor.

Can I say AWESUME. I could give it more stars if I could.

  • 5 of 5

I have to start by saying that we have rented many homes on VRBO from Spain to all the HI Islands....everything in-between and Gale's place is absolutely the best ever rented. What really makes the difference is she welcomes each visitor and is a very ingaging person. The location is in the very best location and we know because we drove the entire island, wanted to really get to know it, and concluded the Kailua-Kona area was perfect for us. This location is a bit higher in elevation so when you have spent a day at the beach it is nice for a bit cooler climate. That's not to say it's uncomfortable cold it is just perfect.

She really pays attention to every detail. I have never been in a rental that supplied shampoo, conditioner to ear plugs, in the night stand drawer, and all the beach equipment you need. And if you don't have it there I'm sure she will help you get it. Her "Cottage" welcome book is professionally put together like the Four Season Hotels. Just like all the five star hotels. Don't get me wrong this does not determine my every needs the point is it went way beyond it. That's just how Gale is.

As you see in the pictures the place is all one space but the way she has it set up each space feels as it should. And personally we like open spaces. The outdoor shower is fantastic! and I don't believe she has pictures of that on the web site. We will be back again!! Thank you Gale and a shout out to Merton!!!
