Our family of 6 just returned from a week long vacation at Casa B'alam. We had a wonderful time. The property is right on the beach and has wonderful access to the water. The kids enjoyed fishing and snorkeling off the dock. We enjoyed riding the bikes on the beach. If traveling to Ambergris Caye, this is a perfect place to stay with your family.
my friends and I ( a group of 5 ladies) just returned from a wonderful 10 days at Casa B'Alam. We had a great time, the house is just like you see in the pictures, lovely island-style decor and plenty of space for all. We had been on Ambergris Caye many times before, and this place is a favorite for sure! We opted to get the weekly boat pass from Coastal Express instead of the golf cart, just because we find it more relaxing to go everywhere by boat! I recommend you read the "Welcome Book" that is up on the counter by the phone in the kitchen, the owner has put together a great little manual about all the important things to know, including restaurant, tour company and other recommendations. Look for the guy on a bike with a cooler in the morning, he has great breakfast burritos and sometimes tamales! He stops by around 8:30 or so.
The sunsets from the rooftop were amazing, what a great view! Loved the dock with the comfy padded chairs, and the water is just deep enough for a dip - we brought floaties and had fun just bobbing around in the warm water. It was a bit windy on the days we wanted to use the kayak, so we never did, but it's something on the list for next time!
We took several snorkel trips with Seaduced by Belize, used them for years, they are wonderful.
Don't miss a walk to Rojo Beach Bar ( closed Sun & Mon), we love going for lunch and then hanging out by their cute little pool.
We never did see the caretaker, but we didn't really need him for anything; the manager did come and check on us a couple of times and she always easy to reach with a text.
We just go back from a week stay at Casa B'Alam and it was simply amazing. The pictures shown are exactly what you get - paradise! We started off our vacation with massages from Wendy - best massage ever - and that set the tone for the rest of the week.
Definitely recommend renting the golf carts for the week. Some places are close to walk to along the beach or the main road but would not want to do the walk after dark. Restaurants were good nearby (Jamaya, Rojo (closed Sundays and Mondays), and Rendevous were great) and was definitely worth going into town to Blue Water Grill - did both the regular menu (Snook was amazing) and Sushi night. Amazing snorkeling. Came close enough to kiss the Sea Turtle at the Mexican Rocks. Roberto from Portofino was an excellent guide. Hol Chan was also amazing.
Only thing we'd do different is take a plane from Belize City to San Pedro. Boat ride was not fun. On the way in, we were packed like sardines all hot and sweaty and on the way out, it was raining, most windows were closed, and even though we were not packed in like sardines the carbon monoxide filled the inside of the boat and made a couple people sick.
Can't wait to go back to the island and we would definitely stay at Casa B'Alam again.
From the view of the ocean out every window (and the sound of the waves -- that is how close the house is to the water!), to the two person kayak to paddle out to the reef and snorkel, to the roof top porch for star gazing, and even the phone number for Wendy the massage therapist who comes to the house, Casa B'alam was the perfect get away and deserves a Five Star rating! Pluses: The owner just happened to be staying in the hut on the back of the property and was super helpful with recommendations for any and everything. And my husband is a diver and the dive shop picked him up every morning from Casa B'alam's private dock!
Casa B'Alam was fabulous and you won't go wrong spending your time there. The location was very convenient to local restaurants on the beach, a grocery store and a pickup point at the dock in back of the house. There were five of us and Casa B'Alam could easily accommodate six. Perfect place to relax, have great fun and access to the city. The assistance from all those attending the property was perfect. They could answer all our questions. Ask about Chris as he was very helpful in saving us money. There is also bikes to ride around the island and a kayak to discover the beautiful reef. If the owner is around during your stay you may have an opportunity to ride the jet ski. If you don't stay at Casa B' Alam, you will miss out on a great time.
I don't have enough great words to say about our Honeymoon Trip to Casa B'Alam! The house was exactly what we were looking for, private, accommodating for lounging and cooking in, but very easy access by both water and road. We used the bikes provided every morning to explore and ended up renting a golf cart through Mata Granda Grocery on our 3rd day so that it was a easy/fast trek to town when need be. The 2 person kayak provided was also a nice afternoon ride out to the reef for snorkeling and swimming around the sand bars. We enjoyed food at both Rojo Bar and Portofino, as well as the groceries for home cooking from Mata Grande. Aurora's Grill at Mata Grande is also an excellent stop for cold beers and good homemade food. Everyone on the island is super friendly. Our house staff - Romel, was very friendly and became a fast friend whom we hope to see again. Brittany was great answering all of my questions prior to arrival and also sending out a new blender! We will definitely be coming back to Casa B'Alam!
