Incredible views

Our stay here was great. The drive up to the cabin is steep. We had a hard time finding exactly which cabin it was - I would suggest to the owners to put a sign on the poles where many of the other cabins are listed with arrows and good signage at the entrance. GPS led us half way up the mountain but the cabin was further on. We found it by the dog pen we knew it had. The views were to die for - I could have sat for hours on end watching the view from the porch - sunrises, storms, clouds, rain, mist - it was all beautiful. On July 4th we stood on the second story porch and watched the fireworks in Pigeon Forge as well as fireworks going off all over the mountains. Dollywood has fireworks nightly during the summer and you can walk down the street a couple houses to enjoy those each night. We enjoyed hikes to nearby waterfalls, visiting Cades Cove to see bear and other wildlife, a movie in Pigeon Forge and lunch in Gatlinburg. It is about 30 to 45 minutes to most things but we loved being where we had such am amazing view and didn't mind driving to the different places. We prefer not to eat out and the kitchen was well stocked with cookware and utensils. There is a grill on the lower deck. Our week here was wonderful and the cabin was clean and neat. The bedrooms were not big but we didn't mind as we only slept in them. There are two full bathrooms with showers in each. We did use the washer and dryer and were thankful for those. We were a bit surprised to find one bedroom only had a half door - the owner told us she thought it had been changed out to a full door. Hopefully, this had happened - the boys stayed in this room and it wasn't a big deal overall. We exchanged several emails and texts with the owners and they responded quickly. Our family plays a lot of table games and there was not a kitchen table - that was probably the biggest thing we missed. There are bar stools and a counter with amazing views to eat at and there is a table on the screened in porch - but the lighting on the porch wasn't great at nights and it would get a little hot out on the porch during the middle of the day in July. Though it wasn't ideal we made do using the coffee table. I suggested to the owner better lighting on the porch with some overhead fans and maybe a table in the gaming area upstairs. We had a fabulous week and would go back again.

Excellent View

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Cozy Bear with 2 adults, 3 children, and 2 dogs. The house was clean and looked like the pictures. The hot tub was hot when we got there. We did a lot of tourist things so were not in the cabin a whole lot. (mostly only to sleep) If we had been in the cabin more, it may have gotten a little tight with everybody. It does have 3 separate bedrooms, 1 upstairs and 2 down. They had a full size washer and drawer. (although we didn't use it). Earlier reviews mentioned only 1 shower but there is a second shower in the upstairs bathroom. The outside deck was very nice to sit in the morning. There was also a grill by the deck for those that wanted to grill out. The cabin had excellent views on 3 sides of it. As an earlier review said one of the views had a tree partially blocking it but it wasn't a big deal. The views were still excellent. Most of the tourist things we did required driving 30-45 minutes from there, so if you stay there plan on that. The closest thing we did was Dixie Stampede, which was only about 10 minutes away. The cabin address was in Sevierville, but it seem closer to Pigeon Forge. When you drive up there remember to know the Cabin Name, “Cozy Bear”, because it can get a little confusing on where to go once you are on Timber Ridge Road. I didn’t see a street address on the house or the cabin name, right away. I recognized the house by the pictures on the website.

There was no material in the house showing the popular places to eat or visit or instructions for the WiFi, hot tub, where trash goes. (with bears in the area people may not be know you shouldn’t leave trash outside). It would have been nice to look through that.

I would suggest to the owner to add a sign showing how to get to Cozy Bear on the poles where you see other cabin names with arrows showing where to go. Also I would suggest getting a bear proof trash can. People don’t want to bother the owners when they have trash to take out. The bed in the 1st floor, to the right of the shower, needs to get replaced. Every time you move the bed made a loud crunchy sound.

I exchanged several emails with the owners and they were always prompt to respond in an hour or two.

One note, beware of the Dollywood fireworks….one night we were sitting in the house and heard what sounded like somebody on the roof…it turned out being the firework explosions echoing off the roof.

The few suggested changes above were minor and over all we had a great experience.

Beautiful!!!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was really nice. The drive up was a little hairy since we didn't get there until late at night. Everything was very neat and clean. The rooms are very good sized, and the beds were comfortable. There was a Wii system, so if we would have stayed longer, we would have really taken advantage of that. The only complaint was that the water was very very coppery. This left stains in the tub, and also on our skin after taking a shower. That is not in the hands of the owner, I know that they can't help that, but that was the only downfall we had.

Budget Cabin Excellence w/ Mountain Views

  • 5 of 5

Cozy Bear is located at the top of a hill with a steep incline and a panoramic view. The owner is so accommodating, he even stocked the cabin with new board games just for the kids and let us stay an hour extra on check out day. The price we paid to stay here for 5 days was totally worth it.

With that said, you need to know this is a 3 bedroom cabin with only 1 shower located downstairs. There is no washer and dryer and there is no coat closet. The upstairs has a wonderful view of the mountain ridge from the balcony and a heart shaped tub that is a bit dated as well as a toilet and mirror. You will find a king bed and extra bunkbeds which can also be used for small children in the upstairs suite.

This cabin is great for families with teens who don't plan to stay for an extended period of time due to no w/d and you must keep the full trash bags inside the home since there is no trash can outside. It can stink after a while but we put our trash in one of the bedroom closets downstairs during our stay.

The place could use some updating but it is still very comfortable and for the price you pay, one can't complain. The views are not the pivotal point of interest from inside the cabin but the gas fireplace is, especially in the winter. From the porch and balcony the mountain views are there, yes they are. We didn't use the porch hot tub but it was bubbling and ready. I would definitely recommend this cabin for any family on a budget who wants to bring their pets for a great time near Dollywood.

Nana

  • 5 of 5

Wow! The Cozy Bear was fantastic! I am a Nana and I brought my son, future daughter-in-law and my two granddaughters, as well as our four-legged grand dog and we all thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful cabin. The view is fabulous and the area is quiet and peaceful. The manager is a dream to work with and we definitely plan to visit The Cozy Bear again.
