We are a small family of 4. My wife and I have 2 sons 12 and 10. My wife is a personal trainer and fitness enthusiast. My wife Bridget has a part time job as well doing Physical Therapy. I have been in the building business for many years, but recently ventured into doing spray foam insulation. We both moved to Maine in the early 90s. We purchased this property in 2004 to enjoy waterfront living. Our busy life style and my older sons position for the sport of hockey has encouraged us to Rent the property.
Chad Gates purchased this cottage in 2004
If your looking for the perfect spot to get away without being to far from the city, this property is the perfect fit. Warm water lake with a complete relaxed life style. This property is the Second to last camp on the road. No through traffic all day. Come make a fire in the pit and enjoy the sunset.
My family stayed at this location for 2 weeks in August of 2016. We have used VRBO many times and have never been disappointed, and this was no exception. In fact, within a day, every member of my family voted it the best vacation we have ever taken. The house is charming, and truly feels like a home with the large family room, comfortable furniture, and completely stocked kitchen. We cook every day, and I enjoyed preparing our meals here, there was nothing that I couldn't find, not to mention the fish my husband was catching every day! The direct TV and wifi were perfect. We happened to be there during the Olympics, and the television offered at least 20 stations just for the Olympics, along with whatever else we wanted to watch. The wifi was a blessing, since I did have to work a couple of days while we were there, and my computer connection was strong. The new front loading washer and dryer were very convenient, since I spent years at other camps lugging our clothes to the Laundromat for hours. I could just throw in a load and go kayaking, come back and change the load out. Upstairs, you will find a fully stocked linen closet with plenty of towels, and sheets to change the beds if you stay as long as we did. Bunk beds in one room (my boys loved this, and switched top and bottom for the second week so they could both have the top bunk!), in another room is a double bed, and a single. My girls took this room and loved it. We had no issues sharing the full bathroom, especially because there was another spacious half bath on the main level. The master bedroom is absolutely huge, with another television, and dressers, which are typically hard to come by in most camps. Truly, the best part of this rental is the owner and his sons. Chad was available for any question we had, and was happy to suggest local bike trails and hiking, which we loved. His boys happened to be the exact ages of my boys, and they enjoyed hanging out with them daily. Chad was always willing to take the kids, and us, tubing, which was one of the biggest highlights of the vacation for everyone! We built fires in the fire pit and had s'mores, and enjoyed each others company. The best part of the location of this camp is the sunsets. Please grab a cocktail and your spouse, and sit and watch the beautiful sunsets over Chemo pond. You won't regret it. We enjoyed every single thing about this camp, and have reserved 3 weeks next year. I am already looking forward to it.
Although the cabin is nice enough and the location is ok, the area up the hill that they speak so glowingly of had dozens of empty rusted 55 gallon drums strewn all over the place and other items! Although not part of the primary property, it is touted as being a beautiful spot! We tried to check in at 5 p.m two hours after when we could have the owner was working on a leaking toilet that obviously had been leaking for some time because the backing of the rug had stuck to the floor! My wife had to literally clean human feces off the underside of the toilet but did so without complaint and chalked it up as an oversight! We were supposed to have wifi and when called about it the owner said he had his provider coming out a certain day and when I asked him what they said, he said they were a no show and apparently was a no show the next day as well! I've never had the cable company never just not show up once let alone twice! I suspect there was no wifi at that address at all because I connected straight to the router and it found it but no internet! Can't prove it but just a strong suspicion! Like I said the house itself was charming enough but completely overpriced as we have rented many beautiful homes in Maine and New Hampshire on lakes for that much money! I would have not put a review at all and just never rented again but as we left Chad the owner was nice enough to offer $100 dollars back because of the internet issue and I believe when he made the gesture he had good intentions but two months later after about 6 correspondences that he assured me he'd send it I asked him man to man if he was going to send it as I've gotten empty promises he just told me good luck bud! Like I said, it's not the $100 dollars, it's the not being a man of your word! He gave excuses that he was stuck in N. Maine all this time but apparently his wife couldn't write a check! I honestly don't think this property is worth more than $1200-$1500 based on others we have rented but I felt compelled to give an honest opinion because of the lies and run around! We only had one toilet for most of the week and although that happens and would have been overlooked, I don't appreciate being lied to! This is a nice enough home and location to be fair but not worth the money as compared to other homes! As you told me Chad about the refund, Good luck bud!
This is a fabulous vacation spot. The cabin was clean, large, and full of amenities including a washer and dryer-not usually found in lakeside rentals. The exercise studio was awesome! My 26-year-old daughter and I worked out almost every morning. The grounds were beautiful with fresh flowers and the pond was absolutely breath-taking. The beach area was easily accessible for my dog, which was great. Plenty of firewood as well for campfires and S'mores. We took a few day trips to Acadia, which we loved, and the travel to and fro was very easy. The owners were great to deal with. Very personable and friendly and eager to please and serve. Would totally recommend this property to my friends and family without hesitation.
The water sports on Chemo pond is one big attraction. Chemo water is warm in the summer and is great for swimming. The fishing is excellent year around with bass, Pickerel and perch as the 3 popular species. Up in the brooks, you will find brook trout. If your a serious fisherman, I can direct you to many popular fishing spots for Salmon and other trout fishing opportunities. Hiking is big in our area as well. Several beautiful mountains to climb with incredible views. Our property has 23 acres to venture out on if you wish to stay close to home. We have a 60 tree apple orchard on the property as well. The location of our property is in the middle of every popular location to visit. Bar Harbor is 45 minutes away. Bangor and a casino is 20 minutes away. Acadia National park is 30 minutes away as well. The larger mountains close as well.
