Spectacular all season, waterfront home on lake Memphremagog. You can play all day, hiking, biking, skiing, enjoy glorious sunsets from the dock, spacious living room or master bedroom, and sounds of lapping water will lull you to sleep.
This waterfront home is on a point of land reaching out into lake Memphremagog just below the Canadian border. It is extremely private with a beach, lawn, a large dock and deck. It borders almost 1000 acres of US and Canadian preserve with walking paths. There is also a five mile long bike path that will take you to the town of Newport, perfect for biking or walking. Or you can cross the border and bike up to 20 miles into Canada. The paths are also great for X-country skiing and are groomed by a local ski association. There's plenty to do in every season, great restaurants, biking, tennis, watersports (you can moor your boat right to our dock), hiking. The house is about 40 minutes from Jay Paak or Burke Mountain. You can also explore the Quebec's quaint Eastern Townships just over the border.
Included with the house are also a water trampoline and 3 one person and two 2 person kayaks for your use.
We just purchased this home in April after having a beautiful camp on Lake Willoughby for 8 years. We fell in love with the Northeast Kingdom and decided we wanted a year round home to enjoy all it's pleasures. We never thought we'd find anything spot as glorious and peaceful as our place on Lake Willoughby, but so far we have not looked back. We hear nothing but the wind through the trees on this dead end street that abuts the Canadian border. One one side of our house is water while on the other is a 1000 acre preserve running into Canada. It is truly heaven on earth.
Nina Farber purchased this house in 2015
We love all the peaceful, flat walking paths and the easy access to great hiking, cross country and downhill skiing while still being close to all the amenities we could desire. We have also fallen in love with the great restaurants serving locally grown food. Our house on Lake Willoughby was passed down through the generations from my great grandfather and we thought we'd never leave it, but this is truly a step up and now that we have an easily accessible year round home we hope to retire in the NEK!
We stayed at this rental property for one week and had a fantastic time. The views on the patio, dock, living room and master bed room are amazing and we really enjoyed watching the sunset every night off the dock. The house has everything you need for basics and alot of extras with mountain bikes and kayaks to keep your days busy and a green egg for bbqing. The location is great. Just off the house are great spots for walking and biking around the lake with great views and bout a 10 minute drive to town for restaurants and shopping and 30 minutes to lake Willoughby and Jay Peak for hiking and other adventures. The house has plenty of space for several families and lots of games too, including a pool table. I would come here again the next time I am in the Northeast Kingdom.
Beautiful, spacious, clean house with all the amenities of home. Large kitchen and bedrooms, wonderful game room in basement. Located in a quiet cove on the lake with sandy beach, huge dock, kayaks, and near the bike trails. We had a great family vacation week in July, boating, swimming, fishing, biking, and just relaxing at this peaceful location. We hope to return next year!
My family rented this house in early August. It is a wonderful home on a spectacular piece of land. The pictures really do not do the place justice - especially the view from the master bedroom. The house has everything and even a bunch of games for the inevitable rainy Vermont day. You will love this place!
Even though you will feel like you are at the end of the earth there are two large grocery stores 10 minutes away (Price Chopper and Shaws). The roads are well-maintained in winter and the driveway is flat. The town of Newport is currently undergoing redevelopment and there are several new restaurants, a tasting center, children's bookstore, a lovely art center, the Kingdom Brewery and a farmer's market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are tennis courts you can use behind Derby town Hall. You can also visit the town of Derby Line, which has the historic Haskell Opera House and library, which sits right on the Canadian border. Also in Derby Line is a great German restaurant and bar in a beautifully renovated historic home on Main street. If you like to hike, Bald Mountain, has tremendous 360 views of the white mountains, Canada, Lake Memphremagog. There are plenty of other mountains to hike, Wheeler, Jay and Burke, just to name few. If you hunger for the sweet taste of summer berries, there is blueberry and raspberry picking just five minutes from the house or you can go a little further for strawberries. There's so much more to tell, and we'll be sure to fill in on whatever you're looking for while your staying at our home.
