Deer Lake is a private 700 sq ft waterfront cabin situated on the Magnetawan river. Just 20 minutes North from the historical town of Huntsville and 20 minutes West from the gateway of world renown Algonquin Park.
The rental is completely detached from the main house close by, and has its own driveway with a delightful walk through the trees. See lots of wildlife including deers, beavers, birds, rabbits, minks, otters, turtles and fish. Other than a brief orientation upon arrival, you will not need to interact with anyone throughout your stay if you wish. Also, you will have access to a beautiful trail on the property along the river.
This is an upscale camping environment in an ‘Algonquinesque’ setting. Without electricity and running water in the cabin, the rental is perfect for a back- to-nature experience.
Find yourself in a comfortable cabin and enjoy an upscale ‘camping experience’. Get water from the Magnetawan river nearby for bathing/cooking. Outdoor (outhouse) and indoor (humanure composting toilet) facilities for toilet. Inside shower stall. Cooler available onsite. There is a power bar inside the cabin linked to the main house to recharge your laptop or cellphone and there is one light in the cabin. Some blankets and pillows are available. Dishes, pots and cutlery are provided.
Picnic table with a standard gas barbecue to cook up your meals outside and a fire pit to enjoy stars at night. Lots of wood available for chopping on the property for the fire pit and the wood-burning stove. Inside there is a bedroom with a queen-size bed, a bedroom with a double-size bed and a smaller bedroom with a single-bed.
Enjoy fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife, and relaxing lifestyle. Listen to the soothing sound of the majestic Magnetawan river nearby. A canoe is available onsite. Enjoy swimming and the spectacular scenery all year round in Brooks falls park near by.
What to bring: Bring your towels, sheets, pillow cases and everything you need as for camping except beds, dishes and BBQ! Do bring blankets and pillows if you wish but I do have some too. This little cabin was the perfect spot for a quintessential Canadian winter getaway. Heating the cabin with the wood stove was not a problem, as long as you kept the fire well-stoked. The cabin was cozy, yet spacious enough for the 4 of us staying. There was snow much snow! We had five dear greet us in the morning, which was a delight. Lots of skiing and snow-shoeing nearby. The simplicity of a weekend at this cabin was exactly what we were looking for.
We arrived after looking at the property online and booking. We felt a little deceived not advertised as being next door to owners house. We went for total privacy. The Wood stove didn't work properly and after trying to keep it warm every time we closed the door with the damp we on the fire went out. It was like the building was just put there on blocks. The last rustic cabin we rented she had books and the fire was going when we got there. We left disappointed.
This property was such a wonderful getaway from it all and my sons, partner and I feel so refreshed after our weekend at Carine's little oasis. Should you wish to evade every day life (however temporary), I definitely recommend.
I never have so much peace, you sleep with the sound of the river and the birds. The river is only 20 seconds walking and you can take a bath if you want. Very recommendable, I'll go again.
We had a great stay. Carine was a great host in that she was there to greet us and show us around when she got there, and then we were given complete privacy for the entire stay.
Her house is directly next door, but you would never know it. The campfire site and bbq area is a perfect place to spend the evenings, and totally secluded.
The cabin was nice and clean, the bed was comfy, and sleeping with the river sounds was the most relaxing thing.
We spent our days lazing in the river, either sitting on the rocks out in the middle, or tying off some tubes to float in. Fell in love with that river! Would definitely go again.
I stayed in this cabin for a little winter retreat between Christmas and New Years. The property is beautiful, and the sound of the rushing river is serene and relaxing. The cabin itself is remarkably spacious and comfortable. It took a few hours for the wood stove to heat the cabin to a comfortable level, but once it was warm I was comfortable for the remainder of my stay (with lots of wood, of course). As there was a good amount of snow during my stay, I enjoyed snowshoeing in a nearby park (about a 15 minute walk from the cabin). For my purpose--to go somewhere remote and read/write with my dog in tow--this was an exemplary experience. It's rustic (no running water, compost toilet, no power except for a ceiling light in the kitchen, cooking on the wood stove), but that's exactly what I wanted! I am sure it is equally delightful in the summer!
