Time to get away? Let’s head to another space and time then. A time when life is a little simpler. But the vacation home doesn’t have to be. So let’s kick it old school style. You know, on the sand. On the beach. Along the boardwalk. Or a simple stroll through town. Doesn’t matter at Miramar Dolphin Den. There’s just a different vibe around here. And you’ll know it when you feel it. It’s something you just get. And only get it here.
Let’s head upstairs first. Because, come on, all views are best from the top. This upper level consists of a bedroom with an elevated king-size captain’s bed, and the adjacent bathroom has a single sink and shower stall. Lie down for a bit. No one will notice. The full, modern kitchen features the latest appliances like a Bertazzoni stove and Miele dishwasher. And for those just looking to relax even more than a little bit, the living area has two sofas that also double as Tempurpedic twin size beds. This is how you truly maximize space. And when it comes time to breathe it all in, simply open the glass doors, where you’ll find a small deck with spiral staircase leading all the way down to the sand for that quick escape. You’ll be spending plenty of time here. This is all about a relaxing retreat. A way to escape. Just don’t forget to look up. The curved glass roof is one of the coolest features of the upper level, as the warmth and natural light give every room such a nice glow. We have a feeling you’ll be glowing too.
From the upper level, walk down a few stairs lined with unique artwork and old coral to the middle level, which is the main shared space. The fully stocked main kitchen has the same top of the line appliances and a dining table that can seat up to 8. The kids will especially get a kick out of the tall leather chairs, but the adults are encouraged to take them for spin as well. The L-shaped sofa faces the ocean, just in case you’re not staring at the 43” flat screen with a BluRay player and extensive cable package. Not bad for a day indoors.
The lower level hosts the two other bedrooms, and they both come equipped with queen size beds. Yes, the vibe is present down here as well. Great for the kids as the first bedroom leads into the second bedroom, and they share a bathroom and shower as well. But this home is all about the beach. The experience. The overall feel. Truth is, we all deserve this kind of vacation at some point., That point is now. So grab a beach chair, a boogie board, or the stand-up paddle board -- they’re all provided. At the Miramar Dolphin Den, choosing the right beach toy just might be the most difficult decision you ever have to make.
The location to the beach, Montecito and downtown Santa Barbara was great! The view was amazing! A downside to this place is that a train runs directly in front of the place throughout the day and evening. It was loud! The master bedroom windows face the direction of the train (the front of the house) not the ocean, so it was pretty disturbing. Another downside of this place is that it is extremely narrow, so with two large dogs and friends visiting, it was very crowded. The 3 decks are very tiny and can only fit 2-3 people at most. Looking down Miramar Beach, I noticed that our place was the narrowest place on the beach. In addition, the beds were uncomfortable! The mattresses were more like futon mattresses than regular mattresses. I was not impressed by the supply of linens or towels. The grossest part was that the freezer in the main kitchen was crawling with ants! A complete infestation. Perhaps this is just life on the beach, but I thought it was disgusting to reach in the freezer for ice and see a colony of ants living there. Overall, the place was surface clean, but not deep clean. For example, when I wiped up spilled water on our first night, the paper towel came up black. I have rented many homes from VRBO, Home Away, etc. and I have seen places that are very clean, and that is what I prefer. The staff was friendly and accommodating, but I wouldn't stay here again.
