About Joan Winter
I am a teacher who loves to travel. Because I have enjoyed coming back to a home (rather than a hotel) when exploring in a new place, I am pleased to offer mine! I grew up in Houston but moved to Austin for graduate school and stayed - who wouldn't? Easy access to nature, beautiful art, live music, great restaurants and, of course, the incomparable Barton Springs. I love this town!
Joan Winter purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Joan Winter chose Central Austin
I chose this property because of its superb central location to both UT, parks and downtown and because it has character and coziness - two features I most appreciate in a place and in a person.

Quaint, clean, and comfortable
Great location for a family visit to UT. So many places within walking distance - food, shopping, entertainment. A few noisy late-nigbt neighbors due to Halloween parties on the street (frat house 2 doors down), but nothing too crazy. Inside the home we found comfortable beds, clean kitchen & bath, and a cozy area for gathering together for conversation and movie watching. We would definitely return!
Charming, homey cottage
Everything about our stay was delightful! Joan was very gracious, accommodating, and responsive as we made last-minute reservations. Her home was charming, well appointed and homey. It's centrally located near UT, entertainment and dining opportunities, but still off the main streets and in a more residential neighborhood. I would highly recommend this location to anyone coming to visit Austin!
An amazing gem in the heart of everything!
I love older homes that were made with love and have character. This is an amazing older cottage with details that just arent found anymore. The character of the home was warm, inviting, and relaxing. I would def stay here again. The secluded side and front porches were so peaceful. Joan was very responsive.
Could not be more charming!
Lovely inside and out and the most gracious host. Will seek this one out again next time I’m in Austin!
Great place to stay!
This was a great place to stay. Very charming house in a great location for being close to UT. The house was very clean--the only comment to make here is that the slipcovers on the sofa and chairs could use a wash and the rug on the front porch could use replacing. But overall, everything else was very clean. The beds were comfy. The decor was charming--loved all the books throughout the house. We did enjoy sitting on the front porch and enjoyed the swing there. The owner Joan is very nice and very responsive. We would stay here again.
Perfect fit for a group of five girls! Cozy and in a great location!
My friends and I came to Austin for ACL and Joan's cottage was the perfect size for all of us. Joan was easily accessible via text or phone call. The house was clean and there were SO many fluffy white towels for us to use, which for five ladies was much appreciated! The house is a short drive to several different areas. I would definitely stay here again!
