About the property

This 3-BR/2BA home with spectacular open ocean views sits on one acre of land at the head of “The Dock.” The backyard dips down into the water, where a shallow, sandy beach is perfect for swimming or putting in your kayak or SUP. It is also adjacent to Lowell Cove, another picturesque sandy beach.

From your secluded back yard, put your kayak in and head out for a day exploring coastal Harpswell and the famed Cedar Beach on Bailey Island. Don’t have your own kayak but want to paddle unguided? Several local kayak outfitters will deliver a kayak—or SUP—directly to the house. And if you want to paddle with an outfitter, a trip with H2Outfitters, conveniently located 5 minutes from the home, just might guide a trip into the cove, where you can wave to your family and friends sunning in Adirondack chairs scouting for seals (yes, seals DO swim into the cove!).

If you feel like just swimming, the beach is sandy and inviting. You can also simply walk along the beach and hunt for colorful sea glass, stop by Island Candy store for freshly made fudge and chocolates, or bike to the one-of-a-kind Cribstone Bridge that connects Orr’s to Bailey Island.

Orr's Island is part of the Town of Harpswell, only 12 miles from Brunswick and Bowdoin College. Orr’s is convenient to Bath (home of the Maine Maritime Museum) and Freeport (home to LL Bean), and less than an hour from Portland. In addition to local water sport outfitters, there are numerous other outfitters in the Casco Bay area and beyond. For outings off the water, day trips to Reid State Park, Popham Beach, Wiscasset's antique shops and Boothbay Harbor’s Coastal Botanic Gardens, and the many area restaurants and galleries will make each day of your visit memorable.

Six guests will sleep in comfort in the 3 bedrooms: The first floor has a spacious bedroom with a queen bed and an attached private deck overlooking the cove. The second floor has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two twin beds, both with antique dressers. All beds are furnished with vintage quilts and/or down comforters to fend off cool ocean breezes.

A spacious sunroom on the first floor features a sofa, loveseat and two lounge chairs overlooking the water. It is the second best place to enjoy your morning coffee and watch the lobster boats head to work (the best being outside in the Adirondack chairs). Also on the first floor is a TV and adjacent laundry area with new washer and dryer. High speed internet and cell signal booster for AT&T is provided, as well as basic cable television.

There are two bathrooms; upstairs features a full tub/shower combination and the downstairs has a shower.

The home is fully furnished with a mix of antique and modern furnishings. It houses original artwork from local and international artists. The mammoth dining table is hand crafted by a master furniture builder in Brooklyn, New York.

The kitchen is stocked with everything from basic pots and pans and utensils, to a food processor, stovetop espresso maker, hand-crank pasta maker, electric ice cream maker, rice cooker, even a propane-fired lobster boiler. For outdoor eating, there is a new 4-burner propane grill and a charcoal grill.

The house is on a 250-ft driveway off the road, giving you even more peace and quiet on your Maine getaway.

The owners have dogs and understand your desire to travel with them. Dogs only, (maximum of two) will be considered only upon advance discussion with and written permission from the owner. If permission is granted, additional rental and cleaning fees will apply (see rates).

Relaxing and Spectacular

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house to celebrate my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary and it couldn't have been more perfect. The downstairs bedroom was perfect for my in-laws as it was on the first floor and it had a bonus deck off the room; so they could sit and have their morning coffee before everyone else got up. The other two bedrooms were on the second floor, one for my husband and I with a queen size bed and the other had two twin beds that my niece used. She is only eight and she LOVED having her own bedroom! Two bathrooms made it easier for everyone getting ready in the morning. The house is in the best location......secluded but yet only 20 minutes from Brunswick and even closer to some of the best seafood places around! We were able to walk down to the water's edge when the tide rolled out in search of shells and sea glass. A great adventure for an eight year old looking for treasure! The house has a full kitchen which was super helpful. We were able to cook dinner some nights and more importantly make our coffee each morning. Many days we sat outside on those lovely blue chairs and watched the tide roll in and out. When it rained, we only moved inside to the living room which is surrounded on three sides by almost floor to ceiling windows. You certainly did not miss out on the view by being inside! Also important to know is that the owners were very responsive to my many questions. The house is just really cool and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to get away as a group. Without hesitation I would definitely plan another trip to Ledgemere!!

A bit of heaven on a classic Maine cove

  • 5 of 5

A spacious sunroom overlooking a lawn that slopes to the water was a great place to watch the changing light in the sky and water if the weather wasn't good enough to sit outside in the Adirondack chairs. Nicely supplied kitchen and outdoor lobster pot made cooking easy, but we also enjoyed the numerous good restaurants in the area. Pretty walks nearby, but unfortunately it was a little too early for kayaking, which would have been great in that area. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms large. All in all a beautiful place to stay--and the Maine lilacs were in full bloom all over the area.

Specular views & Coastal Charm

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved our stay at the property. The layout of the cottage was just perfect with lots of nooks for private space and reading. The property was so well appointed with everything anyone would need right down to the tools for cracking into a fresh Maine lobster. We have rented other Harpswell properties, but without a doubt, this one took the cake! Thank you for your hospitality and sharing this jem of a location with us!!

Peaceful and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This is the first time we have been to Maine, we rented this house to have a vacation with our son, daughter-in-law and 6 & 8 year old grandchildren. It is an older home wonderfully maintained with lots of charm. Gorgeous ocean views. The sun room is perfect even if it is raining. You have lots of space around the home so you do not feel jammed in by other people.

The home was very clean, the kitchen well stocked with everything you would need for cooking. The beds were very comfortable. The twin bedroom upstairs has lots of charm. My grandchildren loved the room, especially the stuffed animals on the beds.

The children played at the beach all day, finding crabs and sea glass treasures.

The owners quickly gave us wifi connection which was great. I felt if we had any needs they would quickly respond.

There are community fireworks on Friday night, on Bailey Island, just minutes from the house. We enjoyed dinner at Morse's restaurant. They also sold fresh lobster for home. The grandchildren loved the Orr's Island Candy shop, it was a daily walk from the house. They make homemade truffles and other chocolates.

The only thing I would change is I would have liked window coverings in the downstairs bedroom.

We will definitely book this home again.

Owner's Response: Great feedback regarding the window coverings in the downstairs bedroom. We will address that before the next season.

A beautiful quiet spot to relax

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property that came fully equiped and very clean for our week long stay. Our family enjoyed many days kayaking from the cottage along the shoreline, and evenings together enjoying the view from inside and out while we ate and played games. This is a great spot for adults to vacation. Brunswick is a nice spot for a morning or afternoon to explore. We hope to go back next year.

Stunning Location!

  • 5 of 5

Logemere is a very special place where we instantly felt at home. The house was lovely and fully equipped with everything we needed (from maps, to books, to restaurant recommendations) to make us feel at home. The views of the cove from the house are incredible, water views from each room. Our days started out sitting in the living room in "our" Eames chairs sipping tea and coffee and reading in the sunbeams with the puppies laying at our feet.

I grew up on Ireland's North Atlantic coast and this place reminds me so much of Ireland and its natural rugged beauty. We fell in love with the cove and exploring Orr's Island and Baileys Island and their natural beauty. Each morning we walked a different trail starting with Devils Trail and then Cliff's Trail and the third morning we went to Phippsburg and visited Popham Beach State Park which was absolutely breathtaking, one of the most beautiful beach walks we've ever taken and the first time our boxer pups ever set foot (paw) on a sandy beach.

We cooked breakfast at home each day and the occasional dinner but mostly ordered from Morton's lobster which is approximately a half mile south of the house on the left hand side of the street just over the Bailey Island Bridge. The seafood was incredible especially the lobster rolls, which I'm pretty sure we had almost every day.

We can't wait to go back!
