|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Spectacular views of Ash Cove, islands, and all the way out to the ocean from almost every room. Tall pines and fir trees whisper in the sea breeze.
Our 1905 renovated cottage is very private, 100 yards off the road and right on the water—the perfect setting for the ultimate vacation.
It’s all about the water in Harpswell. You can kayak from the front of the house bring-- your own or use ours (with liability waiver) . Or tie up your boat on our mooring. There is a public launch just across the cove. Harpswell Sound and Casco Bay offer great water for fishing, sailing, motoring, or kayaking, and are easily accessed from Ash Cove.
The wrap-around porch is perfect for watching the sun rise and set, with a great view of wildlife: bald eagles, ospreys, herons, ducks, loons, cormorants, terns, harbor seals, and lobstermen. The yard is perfect for a game of badminton or horseshoes (both provided).
The house has an open floor plan. The family room has 180 degree views of the cove. The dining room is central to the house, between the family room and the kitchen, and also has water views. The kitchen is small, but we are avid cooks, so it is well-appointed. Close to the other living areas, you can cook and still be part of the conversation. Cozy living room is perfect for curling up in a big, comfy chair with a good book. Full bath and laundry are on the main floor.
Bedrooms are upstairs:
Master with king bed and full bath
Bedroom with queen bed
Bedroom with queen bed
Bedroom with bunk beds
Family bath with tub/shower.
The town of Harpswell is a set of fingerlike peninsulas stretching south from Brunswick. It has over 200 miles of shoreline with many miles of hiking trails administered by the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust.
Seafood restaurants abound around Harpswell. The Dophin Marina, Erica’s Seafood takeout, and Estes Lobster House are all a few minutes away. You’ll find a wider variety of cuisines in Brunswick. For local brew pubs try Ebenezer’s Brew Pub, in Brunswick, and Sea Dog Brewing, in Topsham.
We want our house to be a real getaway, so there is no TV, only wi-fi for internet access. You can watch movies on your computer, and are welcome to bring your own TV and DVD player, if you wish. On rainy days, there is plenty of shopping in Brunswick, Topsham, and Freeport. Or visit the Maine Maritime Museum, in Bath, and two large multiplex cinemas--one in Brunswick and one in Topsham. All are 20 minutes away. And there is always something going on in Portland, less than an hour away: http://www.visitportland.com/calendar.aspx
Dogs (no more than 2) are welcome with permission of homeowners and a $100/dog non-refundable fee.
Please contact the owner before placing your reservation and initiating a payment online. Your rental fee will depend on the number of people in your party and whether or not you have a dog. We also have rental rules that need to be reviewed and signed prior to occupation.
Dick and Karen grew up in New Jersey, and have lived in Connecticut for the past 32 years. Dick is a writer and Karen is a realtor. Their son, Ben, is a restaurateur, and just published a cookbook: "Real Maine Food", which is available in bookstores, on Amazon, and in his restaurants (Luke's Lobster). All the recipes come from Maine chefs and home cooks. There is a copy at the house, along with a copy of a Maine cook book written by a gentleman who used to summer in the house in the early part of the 20th century.
Karen Conniff purchased this cottage in 2014
Karen had summered in South Harpswell as a teenager across the cove, at the Auburn Colony. She introduced Dick to the area, and he, too, fell in love with it. They decided to find a house, here, for family get-togethers and quiet time away from busy lives. Their son, Ben, travels to Maine on business, so we wanted to find a place that would be convenient for him to stay in when he is in Maine.
We found our house after a year of searching. The proximity to the water and ability to moor a boat in deep water in front of the house attracted us. But the views are what sold us--incredible! Anyone who walks into the house says, "Wow! What a spot!" Sitting in the family room or in the master bedroom, you feel like you are on the prow of a boat, overlooking the cove.
The wrap-around porch is the one thing all our guests fall in love with. You can sit with your morning brew and watch the sun rise and the eagles, ospreys and herons fishing, or lounge all day watching the wildlife and reading a good book. As the days grow shorter in the late summer, the sunrises and sunsets get more colorful.
Amazing week! House was clean and spacious. For the first few days it was 6 adults and 2 toddlers and there was plenty of space for all of us and our gear. The three full bathrooms really helped. The views are incredible and we certainly did not miss having a TV one bit. Keeping two toddlers entertained was shockingly easy! The Owners are so pleasant and were great to deal with. Already looking forward to next August!
We have been renting homes up and down the Maine coast for many years now. Ash Cove was by far one of our favorite places yet! The house was super clean, had more than enough room to comfortably fit our combined family of 8 for sleeping and 14 for meals, was full of beautiful views and was well equipped for the chefs in our crowd. We took advantage of the kayaks and spent much time exploring the area waterways, we loved the rocking chairs on the porch, the fact that there was no TV and the puzzles in the living room! And, wow, to wake up with a view like that every morning!!
The owners were incredibly responsive to our questions and we felt that the house was very much loved. We would definitely consider renting this house again for our next family reunion!
We rented the house for my daughters HS graduation in Yarmouth ME (4 humans and 2 dogs) and it was perfect for us. The sun rises/sun sets were beautiful. The house has everything you need and more - 3 full baths! It is very relaxing and peaceful, but close to all the activities that our teenagers wanted. The cell phone service was spotty, but with the wifi we could email and watch moves, no TV lead to more reading (great book selection - we have since bought 2 of the books that we started). The owner made the whole process very easy and efficient. We definitely will recommend to our family/friends and hope to make this our new family vacation location.
We are two semi-retired couples that stayed here in October, off season. There is plenty of room, small but well equipped kitchen, easy access to fresh lobsters. The beds were very comfortable, and plenty of linens and blankets, as the nights were cooler. Beautiful views from living area and 3 bedrooms. Close to the Dolphin restaurant and Erika's for meals.
No televison, which was fine for us, but cell phone service in the house was poor, we had to go up to the road to make calls.
All in all, very nice, would definitely stay there again.
We highly recommend this rental for anyone seeking a peaceful getaway with amazing views. The house was spacious, immaculate and tastefully decorated for an oceanfront cottage rental. The owners were quite friendly and extremely accommodating. We enjoyed relaxing in the large front room and looking at the ocean view especially in the evening with the surrounding lights and boats around the cove. It was very interesting watching a bald eagle fly by the porch and circling the bay amongst other wildlife. There were several nearby restaurants to enjoy. Our favorite was the Dolphin Marina. The food and views at the restaurant were spectacular and memorable. Harpswell is just a short drive from Brunswick. Bailey Island is a must see during your stay in Harpswell. We enjoyed riding our bikes to Bailey Island while taking in the beautiful scenery. There are other activities to enjoy including kayaking, walking trails, gift shop, and of course endless ocean views.
Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College, is 20 minutes away, and offers summer theater, a farmers market, restaurants, multiplex movie theater, two large supermarkets, and all kinds of shopping.
Mall shopping is in Brunswick and Topsham.
Check out the ships being built or repaired at the Bath Iron Works, in historic Bath, a 30 minute drive. The Maine Maritime Museum, there, is a great spot to visit on a rainy day.
Freeport shopping outlets are 30 minutes away.
