Family owned cottage for 30+ years. Started as a tiny fishing cottage.
We stayed7 days and had a good time overall. The kids really enjoyed the paddle boat, canoe and kayak that was provided. The house is situated on a dead end street which was nice when the kids wanted to ride their bikes. Despite having fun I did have a few issues with property.
The first being that nowhere did it list on the HOMEAWAY main property page that there was NO AC unit. I did not find out about AC until the our stay was paid in full and a link to property was provided on receipt. It was on this link to page where it listed NO AC. If I would have known there was no AC then I would never have rented it. We arrived onsite on a day when the temps were well above 90 degrees and was pretty much unbearable. Thankfully I was able to see that there was no ac unit on property beforehand and brought a portable AC unit which helped a little but it was still pretty hot. I was notified after the stay that this was prohibited despite the fact that the contract and listing said nothing to that effect. I assume owner will add NO AC units to listings on future rentals. If this is the case I would advise not to rent this place in the heat of the summer.
Second issue was after the fact when trying to get the $400 security deposit back. I learned the deposit is not only for accidental damage but also a cleaning fee. The place was left very clean. Departure rules listed in the property information guide were followed but I was still charged a cleaning fee. Apparently owners expect renters to deep clean all bathrooms sinks, toilets etc. and hose out the garbage bins before leaving, a service normally done by a cleaning service or owners when renters leave
The house is small, outdated but clean. There is very little cabniet space to store your grocery items. Cabniets are filled with owners food. We ended up having to store things on the porch. You have to live out of your suitcase because the dressers and closets are full with owners clothes. The only storage is in the main bathroom which is inconvenient when you have twelve people going in and out taking showers and using the bathroom. The cell service is pretty bad in and around the house. There is Wi-Fi however it is pretty slow and non-existent at night.
The backyard is nice with lots of deck space to enjoy the weather until your eaten alive by bugs at night.
There is not much to do in the area. All restaurants are closed down. Hard to rent boat as house far away from main port for delivery.
Great place! The cottage was as nice as described, including all the amenities, and very clean. The location is excellent, beautiful view of the bay from the cottage. Owners are very nice and communication with them was excellent. Nice place to stay if you want to relax and participate in water sports. Also, there is a nice grocery store close by and food delivery, too. We also went to the Renaissance Festival less than 30 minutes away. We highly recommend this place! Thank you!
This property had something for everyone; beautiful cottage, clean, boating, fishing, swimming and games for kids. No need to go anywhere while you are there because it provides everything you need for a great vacation. Owners were accommodating in every respect. Highly recommend this.
