You are in the midst of one of North America's most ancient forests, the Paha Sapa (Black Hills), where Giant Ponderosa Pines tower hundreds of feet into the air.
Carved by wind, rain, and time, the granite peaks, and majestic mountains plunge into cavernous depths of gorges and canyons with secrets untold for a hundred generations.
The only sounds you hear are the songs of the birds and your own breathing being carried on the wind as the giant pines sigh in the mountain breeze.

We are the Mechaley's, Marshall, Chuck and Julie. As South Dakota natives, we have always been drawn to this magical area of the Black Hills. We are a family business that strives to help our guests and families have an enjoyable time in one of the most beautiful areas in this region.
We love to give you old-fashioned customer service. We will greet you on arrival, answer your questions, making your trip, hopefully, a little less stressful.
We've been in the corporate world; owned an apiary - a South Dakota product; a bakery; and now we are here to help you enjoy yourselves in this special 'get-away' destination, as much as we will enjoy having you here!
Thank you for the amazing memories and allowing us to stay in your amazing house! We all enjoyed every minute of it! Can't wait to come back for many years. The Gang from Wisconsin Sturgis 2015
I found this vacation rental on this website when searching for vacation homes in the Black Hills. We were given a discounted rate as it was the fall off-season. The cabin is definitely centrally located to all the attractions in the Black Hills. I am glad the cabin we chose was not as far up the mountain as the others. It was very easy to get to only 1 mile up the mountain road while the others are 3 more miles up the winding gravel mountain road. While this cabin is very large with plenty of space we found some of the furnishings and all carpet to be dated, dusty and musty smelling. It made us nervous with the hides on the walls as we presumed they too were dusty and not clean. We could write our name in the dust on the towel holder in the basement bathroom. We're not sure if there ever was padding under the carpeting on the stairs, etc but there is not now. All the base boards desperately need dusting. It seems the owners have tried to update some things in the rental and others not. Also the furnishings seem to be just whatever has been leftover they just stick in random places. This rental was not decorated well at all. It did not make us feel warm and welcomed. It would have been helpful for the owners to take us up to the rental and show us around instead of just handing us a key and telling us where it was. For example, the first night we wanted to use the hot tub. We had to call the office to figure out where the light was. Come to find out we had to find the cord and reach up and plug it in under the deck. Not very convenient at all. Also there were no instructions for the hot tub which would have been helpful. Some lights in the house worked, some did not. We would not stay here again because of all of the above. There was nothing seriously wrong with the vacation home, just lots of annoying things.
Our family of six had a wonderful stay at the Praire Creek over Thanksgiving week. We brought Thanksgiving dinner to our son who goes to college in Rapid City and wasn't able to come home for the last two years. The only things we brought from home to fix the meal was the turkey and an electric roaster oven- everything else needed to make all the fixins was supplied in the kitchen except the food, which we picked up at the grocery store in town. The home and setting was beautiful and relaxing- deer and turkeys outside the deck every morning. The location couldn't have been better as it is off the main highway and easy to get to. Also , it is centrally located to all of the Black Hills attractions with which we spent our days visiting and enjoying. Evenings were spent in front of the fireplace watching satelite tv movies and some favorite shows. Cell phone service was non-existant which was just fine for most of us ( daughter and wife were suffering from texting/ facebook withdrawal- ha ha ha). We will return again the next time we come out to visit and would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a nice quiet getaway in the Black Hills
Edelweiss Mountain is near many ATV/UTV trails in the black hills. There is also a guided ATV/UTV tour 3 miles from the cabins
