The Buchanan Suite is part of an 1850's farm-style home that is located on a small working fruit farm. The bedroom has a queen size bed, wardrobe, seating and orchard views. The kitchen features full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans etc. The full bathroom has a tub/shower combined. The suite has it's own outside entrance. About Susan Barnes
Susan Barnes, Owner Born and raised in a small village just outside of Edinburgh, Scotland where her family owned and operated a small full service hotel. Upon leaving home and many travels, Susan decided to settle in the great Finger Lakes Region in upstate New York. She chose the area because it reminds her so much of Scotland. Susan can be found picking fruit on the farm or selling gorgeous locally grown produce on the farm stand. Cathy Barnes, Manager Cathy has spent most of the last 20 years living in and loving upstate New York. She is entering her final year of college for hospitality management. When she is not digging in the gardens, pruning trees or serving customers on the farm stand, Cathy works at the local Cornell Cooperative Extension office assisting with adminstrative duties and marketing.
Susan Barnes purchased this Apartment in 1997
Why Susan Barnes chose Hector
The family decided to settle in the Finger Lakes Region some 30 years ago because it reminded them so much of Scotland. Now, we would like to share a wee piece of Scotland with you! We truly hope you enjoy your stay in the Buchanan Suite, which is named after our clan. Take a left or right turn from the farm and we promise you will not be disappointed!

Older stately residence
Well appointed and clean, with a very comfortable bed. It is close to the highway, but not so much as to be problematic. Susan was very friendly, responsive and flexible to our arrival/departure times. Beautiful grounds, and convenient parking. We would definitely stay here again.
Quiet country stay
My wife and i stayed in susan's cottage to see the watkins glen falls and celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. It's only a 10 min. drive to the town of watkins glen, and it's located right in the middle of dozens of local wineries and breweries. We also went hiking and mtn. biking in the finger lakes national forest which was also just a 10 min. drive away. As far as the cottage goes, it was a lot nicer than we expected. A full bathroom with linens, fridge, stove, microwave, sink and fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes and silverware. And a minimart across the street for anything else you might need. We highly recommend this place. Can't go wrong here.
Very nice and clean! Perfect location as well.
Perfect small getaway!
Great small getaway for 2 in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine country with more wineries to visit than you have time for. Beautiful views all around the area and the owners were very welcoming. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
Clean and comfortable
This little apartment had everything we needed for our stay. The bed is very comfortable. It is a simple, well appointed place to stay. We have stayed here twice and will stay again.
Terrific place, simple, clean and quiet. Susan and Cathy are great hosts. They even left us snacks in the fridge for our late arrival.
Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes on the East side of Seneca Lake (directly on the wine trail) about 10 miles North of Watkins Glen. Local attractions include wineries, breweries, restaurants, Finger Lakes National Forest, wedding venues, public lakefront beaches and access, horseback riding, hiking, swimming, sailing and so much more!
