Stylish & Relaxed, Original Oceanfront Beach House - "The Bach"

Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, separate living/dining areas, oceanfront

Welcome to our lovingly restored, rustic and relaxing Caribbean beach house. At home in New Zealand, we call this a 'bach' (pronounced 'batch'). Located on the South East Side of Cayman Brac, this unique home will provide the sanctuary you need after a day of diving, snorkelling, walking or exploring ... or will simply be a relaxing place to unwind with a good book and a cocktail.

This property is a TRUE beach house - open living, a large outdoor deck with swimming pool; your choice of sun or shade, a landscaped beachfront, & separate areas that deliver privacy, as well as lots of good collective space. And whilst we don't currently have immediate water access - our part of this special island is on a reef and therefore has an iron shore - the nearest entry point is a short 5 min. drive away. The public beach is a 10 min. drive, and usually empty, and the local "Buccaneers" rock pool for safe & easy swimming & snorkelling is only 15 mins. away ... well worth the effort.

Cayman Brac is stunning, in a laid-back way, and our home, with it's open plan living, simple yet modern furniture and clean lines, will welcome travellers from far and wide to it's unique beauty.

About Melissa Wood

Michael & I first came to the Caymans in November 2014 to experience what we knew was some of the best diving in the world. As an ex-travel agent, I have been 'selling' the Cayman Islands for years, and was keen to see them for myself. We fell in love with Cayman Brac because it's so relaxed, with fabulous sunrises & sunsets, friendly people, and we feel all our worries slip away from us as we arrive....

We currently live in New York City, and also own and take vacation rentals for our home in Colorado (HA Listing 258968). With our personal travel experience (we've lived and worked on 3 continents in 8 countries), we feel we know what other discerning travelers are looking for in a vacation rental and we have custom designed this house with those points in mind.

Melissa Wood purchased this house in 2015

Why Melissa Wood chose Cayman Islands

Cayman Brac is a relatively small island, where everything is within easy reach, and we liked it's simplicity.

What makes this house unique

The sunrises & sunsets are both lovely times of the day, and it's fun to decide which space on the deck or the beachfront we'll enjoy them from. Cocktail hour is always a pleasure, watching the ocean with the cooling breezes, and drifting off to sleep to the sound of the waves is immensely soothing.

Really beautiful house on the shore !

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful spacious house with very nice clean decor and modern amenities such as AC , wifi , Apple tv etc... . The owners arranged for the property manager to meet us at the airport and escort us to the house . There is plenty of room for 6 or more people and there is a huge deck with a pool to hang out on . The house has all kinds of extras like a couple of bikes to ride , beach chairs and floaties and a large selection of games and books . We spent two weeks here and hated to leave . We will definitely be back !

Absolutely a Dream Cottage "Bach on the Brac"

  • 5 of 5

My father and I go away annually to a sunny destination. I had chosen this cottage for many reasons, and all exceeded our expectations. When we arrived we were met by Van, the property manager, who met us as the airport, despite the fact that our flight was delayed, led the way across the island and introduced to the location and its details, keys, amenities, rooms, basic stock, bicycles, etc etc. But what became my favorite was the pool and my buddies, the pool duck and turtle which told me the temperature. The whole place became what my father described as a "guilty pleasure". You woke up to the sun rising, swam in the pool before breakfast, enjoyed the first meal of the day on the deck, headed out to do our daily activities only to return swim, and then prepare meals in a fabulous kitchen, collapse for a good movie before moving to the deck to have tea and watch the stars prior to heading to your bedrooms, all with adjoining washroom/shower facilities. It couldn't have been any nicer. I definitely recommend this location, accommodation and give this site 5 star plus! Thanks Melissa for all your interaction, recommendations and the opportunity to realize a dream on the Brac at Bach! Jane & Mike, from Canada

Your own private boutique hotel !!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at the Bach is like having a boutique hotel all for yourselves. You sometimes expect an overfriendly staff member to ask you yet again, if you need anything else. Don’t get me wrong, I love a nice hotel, but when you stay somewhere for two weeks, you just want to follow your own schedule, in your own company. The house is tastefully decorated, with fabrics, materials and colour combinations, which makes you want to cuddle up with a book in literarily every nook and couch in the house.

Melissa, the owner, went out of her way to answer all my questions prior to our stay and provided us with a list of useful information a week or two before our arrival. She stays at the house regularly, and that is evident in every corner of the house. There is absolutely nothing you need to bring, what you normally would bring when you travel or is often missing in a rental home. Everywhere you find stacks of fresh magazines, a nicely assorted bookshelf, adapters and powercords (i.e. for apple gadgets, everything is there), lots of helpful information about the island, water bottles to bring on a hike, and even a lock for the bikes (I know you probably don’t need this on the Brac, but coming from a city, it just feels wrong not to lock up the bike when you leave it). Assortment of sun screens, first-aid pharmaceuticals and kit, laundry powder, tea, tissues, notepad etc. that you just top up if you use any of it. I could go on forever, so just trust me on this, if it is not already in the house, you probably don’t really need it. The kitchen has all you need for all levels of cooking, there is oil, vinegar and spices in the cupboard, you top up as you go, but theoretically you can start cooking the minute you arrive. The oven looked so clean and unused, I almost felt guilty using it. The island has well stocked grocery stores, but great restaurants as well for breakfast, lunch and dinner, eat in or take away.

Even though we arrived late, Van, the property manager, met us at the airport and gave us a quick introduction of the house. It couldn’t have been easier.

Stunning, relaxed beach getaway!

  • 5 of 5

From the driveway this home looks like a cute beach cottage. Until you open the front door. Then your entire group says, "Wow!", in unison. The Caribbean Sea is just in front of the living room and pool/deck area! The home is open with vaulted ceilings; everything is crisp and clean and newly renovated. It is functional, relaxed and beautifully decorated. I love that the 3 main bedrooms have their own bathrooms. There's a powder room as well. I think you have a view of the sea from every niche in the home except maybe the laundry (though if you put the drying rack in the screened porch, you can see the sea as you hang clothes!) We loved every aspect of this house. Cayman Brac is a small island, but offers lots to do if you are so inclined. We did several of the walking trails, explored caves, visited the museum and Heritage House and tried many of the restaurants. Working with Melissa was a delight. She's prompt to respond and supplies a great amount of information ahead of time as well as in the house manual. My husband and I have rented several properties in the Caribbean as well as in other parts of the world. The Bach @ Brac is definitely one of my very favorite places! We went out exploring every morning, yet I found myself wanting to return to "my home" earlier each day that passed. I would have been thrilled to have never left the cottage the entire trip. To be able to see the ocean all day and fall asleep to the sound of the waves is priceless.

The Bach @ Brac

  • 5 of 5

Melissa arranged to have someone meet us at the airport. After a quick stop at the grocery store our escort took us to the house which exceeded our expectations. All of our questions were answered in a timely fashion before we arrived on the island by Melissa and she even gave us a print out of everything we needed to know about the island. More information was provided upon arrival. We didn't think it was possible to need more information because she was so though. The view from the house was spectacular . The islanders were very friendly. The island is very easy to navigate and we felt extremely safe compared to some of the places we have visited. Helpful hint, weather and holidays affects how the grocery stores are stocked and when they are opened. We made friends while on the island that were also visiting and they visited Bach @ Brac and they said they will be staying there the next time they come back.

Perfect for a quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this great property on our way back from a crazy 20 day trip in South America, specifically to " chill out " before going back to our regular lives. The attention to detail was very nice to have, including pretty much everything you need, down to plenty of sunscreen and bug repellent" not needed". We had Kelly (from bracbeachspa.com) come in every day for massage on the deck, she was great, and you can't beat the sound of the ocean while getting your stress worked out ..... Thanks Melissa for being so responsive and helpful.
