Space 807 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

Recently renovated 1 bed, 1 bath garden apartment next to Rome's central park

Welcome to the "Palm House Villa Borghese". This is the largest one bedroom/one bathroom apartment (807 sq.ft. or 75 offered in the neighborhood and it is also the closest apartment to the Villa Borghese park. It offers a central location with a quiet surrounding. It is literally steps away from the Villa Borghese park and includes WiFi, AC, Sat. TV, DVD player and 2 bicycles. It also has a private separate entrance with car park (free) and garden. The patio is furnished with a sofa, arm chair with ottoman and a four seated table for outdoor dining.

The apartment is located on a calm leafy tree lined street in the Villa Borghese and Parioli area. It is situated in the most exclusive mansion filled neighborhood in all of Rome and boasts over 30 embassies within a 10 minute walking radius. Many sights can be visited on foot. The park of Villa Borghese is only a 3 minute walk from the apartment. Once inside the park you can enjoy a relaxing walk to the famous Villa Borghese Museum (5 min), the park's zoo (5 min), the Etruscan and Modern Art Museums (10 min), Piazza Del Popolo (25 min), Via Veneto with it's elegant shops and fine dining (15 min) and the top of the Spanish Steps in just 25 minutes. The tram station to the Vatican Museums, the Colosseum as well as the bus stop to the city center sights and to the central train station are only a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Not to mention the neighborhood super market, open air fresh produce market and local restaurants which are also only a 5 minute walk away.

This large barrel vaulted ceiling apartment with it's oversized windows is very spacious and bright. It has a large bedroom with an American king size bed (rare for Europe) and lots of built in closets and drawers. The kitchen is modern and fully stocked; it has a dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator and induction stove top. The bathroom has a tub/shower combo and a lighted vanity with an oversized sink. The living room is elegantly furnished and contains a sofa bed for sleeping an exta 2 people along with two comfortable upholsterd "tub chairs". The TV is huge and contains both digital and satellite channels along with a DVD player. The dinning room is spacious and can seat 6 people very comfortably.

Now, the best for last. The apartment is fully private, just open the gate with the remote control and you have entered into your own private oasis. No street noise and no people walking by the unit. The apartment comes with it's own private car park, garden and furnished patio which is all extremely rare to find here in Rome. There is no other apartment offered that has more amenities than this one. After an exhausting day of sightseeing, you will really enjoy/appreciate this quiet and calming area to wind down your day!

About Hal McMillan

Hello, my name is Hal and I own this newly listed apartment. I am an American who has been living in Rome for over 20 years. I grew up in Orange County, California and went to college at USC. While I was a student, I did a semester studing in Europe and just fell in love with the beauty of Rome, it's people, it's culture and all the history this country has to offer. I caught the "travel bug" as a student and have travelled all over the world since then. I love meeting new people and learning about new cultures.

Why Hal McMillan chose Rome

I chose this property because of it's close proximity to the antique center while not having to deal with all the antique centers' chaos. If I were describing this apartment to a New Yorker I would say that it's like living on the Upper East Side and having Central Park at your doorstep. Here in this neighborhood, instead have having "Brown Stones" we have one family mansions (now more or less embassies) and instead of "Central Park" we have the park of "Villa Borghese" with our own famouse museum and zoo. Just a 25 minute walk across the park and you have reached the antique center.

What makes this apartment unique

The most unique benefit of this apartment is that it is fully private and quiet. I don't know of any other unit that has it's own private remote control entrance gate with car park, garden and furnished patio. I also live in the same building so you can rest assured that I will always be around for any type of assistance that you might need.

Perfect secluded hideaway !

  • 5 of 5

The perfect location, close to the highlights of Rome but in a secluded, safe and very upscale neighborhood. We were delighted with our decision to book this apartment for 6 nights, it exceeded our expectations in every respect. Hal is the ultimate host and gave us a walking tour of the amenities in the neighborhood on our arrival. Restaurants, bars, coffee shops and grocery stores are all just a few minutes walk away. The apartment is large and spotless, with lots of windows and everything we needed to feel comfortable including air conditioning. The bonus was the private patio in the rear garden, the ideal place to relax with a glass of vino after a day of sightseeing. The location is away from the hustle and bustle so the neighborhood is very quiet, no traffic noise means uninterrupted, restful sleep.

We will be back, next time for longer.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the wonderful review. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed Rome and the apartment. The two air conditioners come in handy with this hot spell we are having all over Italy. Today the temperature reached 38 degrees celsius...YIKES!!! I look forward to hosting the two of you again. Stay cool :-) Sincerely, Hal

Lovely place

  • 5 of 5

We spent four nights in Villa Borghese and found that it was just a perfect spot for us to experience Rome. The location is close to everything but still lovely and quiet; we frequented Aphrodite, the local cafe; we walked to the spectacular Borghese gallery; and Hal was a superb host; showing us the neighbourhood and making us feel like we were staying with friends. We look forward to coming back !

Fab stay in Rome!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Hal's place in Rome. The location for us was perfect as it was only a short tram or taxi ride to the main attractions but was also quiet and the nearby Villa Borghese Park was fantastic! Hal was super organised from the transfer to and from the airport (for 50 euros would defo recommend this)... and there was no issue that we were late arriving due to being delayed. Hal was really helpful and on our first morning showed us nearby supermarkets and where to get public transport from. We hope to return to Rome in the near future and will definitely stay at Hal's again! Thank you Hal for helping us to have the most memelrable holiday of our lives so far!

Perfect Apartment for Roman Adventure/Holiday

  • 5 of 5

All of the reviews for this apartment are absolutely spot on and yet still do not do it justice...I have recently returned from a way too short 5 day stay at the Villa Borghese apartment of Hal and already cannot wait to return. I have been to Rome many times and studied there in school and this is the perfect location to stay. Close to anything you want to see and do and yet far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. Steps from one of the most amazing parks in Italy filled with art, culture, history, and unmatched views of the city. As a runner, I appreciated the running paths next to wonderful sites and off the busy streets.

The apartment is as described and pictured and contains everything you would need during your stay. The patio is the best...spots of shade and sun, secluded, and perfect at night under the stars with a glass of wine and a candle. The safest of neighborhoods, a private entrance and gate that is completely secure at night. The bed is very comfortable with tons of room in the bedroom and ample storage and drawer space. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you would need for meals and cooking--of which I did very little; including a modern stove, dishwasher, and laundry. The apartment is filled with books and maps and guide books for Rome and Italy...I need not even have brought my own.

The best part by far, as everyone else has stated, is Hal...he is not a VRBO owner, he is a host who genuinely cares about your experience and holiday. I do not feel like I met an owner who gave me the key and told me the rules, I made a friend. From the moment I arrived, he was genuine and wanted to ensure that I had everything, knew everything, and then gave me an in-depth tour of the area, bus stops, stores, café, the park, etc...I could go with all trips and adventures, I had a hiccup occur...kind of a big one...Hal ensured it was a minor blip in the end...he went way above and beyond...he actually saved my trip...

I would encourage anyone to stay in this apartment and location while visiting Rome. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in the future and I will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Hello and thanks for the fantastic review!!! I'm glad I was able to help you out with the problem that had occurred. Instead of gaining another "Palm House" guest, I gained a friend. Take care and see you and your family stateside. Sincerely, Hal

Our Italy Dream Come True

  • 5 of 5

There are just no words to describe how wonderful this apartment is. There are 3 things that make the Palm House exceptional : #1 it is spacious, light and airy, yet warm and cozy, bright, beautifully decorated, superbly appointed with an ultra-modern kitchen/appliances, ultra-comfortable huge bed with superior linens in a huge bedroom with closets, hangers, and drawers galore, and a bathroom with every feature you could possibly need. #2 The Palm House is in a neighborhood that is gorgeous, safe, loaded with good-to-exceptional restaurants, and borders on a beautiful park. You will find yourself taking as many pictures of your neighborhood buildings as you do of the tourist sites. And you will feel smug, proud, and relieved to return to your home every day after seeing all there is to see (including neighborhoods you could have mistakenly stayed in). #3 Hal (I saved the best for last). The attention, care, detail, and effort he gives to ensure everything is perfect and that your stay is THE BEST you will ever have anywhere, is just shocking to be honest. He doesn't just tell you how the appliances work and hand you the keys, he starts by welcoming you with food and drink so that you don't have to run to a grocer, he gives you an orientation walk to familiarize you with ALL means, points, and routes of nearby transportation and orientation to the apartment so that you'll never get lost after post-dinner strolls and a few glasses of wine, he checks with you as often as you like and assists with any sights you want to see, tickets you might need printed, restaurant recommendations, tipping and reservations .. honestly, the list is endless. He is a Godsend. This apartment is a no-brainer, far superior to ANY other you might consider.

Owner's Response: all I can say about your review of The Palm House! Thank you so much for such a detailed description of my apartment and of the neighborhood. As I said in other posts, I put a lot of energy and detail into the unit and strive to give my guests what I would expect if I were renting a vacation home from somebody else. I'm glad to hear that I have made your Roman vacation come true!!! I hope our paths cross again and wish the two of you all the best. Cheers, Hal
