We found our place spotless and well supplied. It was very comfortable and very private. We appreciated being close to a grocery store, liquor store and bank. We enjoyed eating at the Trellis restaurant when we did not feel like cooking. Sitting on the deck or on the chairs by the ocean hearing the waves was awesome. A great holiday spot!!!!

Lovely cottage, wonderful views!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Drift In cottage. What a wonderfully magical location. The cottage was clean, well stocked and Debbie and Derrick were very accommodating to any requests that we might have had and just a couple of minutes away.

It was actually unusually hot, but the breezes off of the Bay were lovely and by the time evening came, the cottage was cool and comfortable.

We were disappointed that we could not have a fire as their was a fire ban for the region, but other than that, just an awesome time spent with our family and grand kids.

Hubbards was a cute little village with a couple of nice restaurants and a few shops (ladies there is a "gals only" shop that is well worth a couple of trips). Only about 45 minutes from Halifax and the airport.

We would highly recommend this cottage for couples, families, friends etc. It was awesome.

Thanks again Debbie and Derrick!

This was a wonderful place! The view can't be beat, and the house was comfortable and had everything we could want. Our hostess came by to greet us, and came back later that evening to suggest a market in town the next morning she thought we would like. St. Margaret's Bay is beautiful, and nearby Mahone Bay was our favorite. We also enjoyed nightly walks to a nearby beach.

We are 4 adults from Ontario and travelled to the Maritime provinces this summer. The best part of our trip was at the Drift In. Beautiful view of St. Margaret's Bay. Debbie and Derrik met up with us and were very helpful. The cottage was exceptional. Much more than any cottage we have ever stayed at. Clean and modern. We didn't want for anything. Perfect place to relax! We highly recommend for all ages!

Lovely Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My sister annd I stayed at Drift in Cottage for 3 nights. Other than the weather being rainy and cold we had a wonderful experience. The cottage is just off the main road that leads into Mill Cove and is very quiet. The view is fantastic! Great firepit ! Derrick and Debbie were the best! They explained everything and are friendly and make you feel at home! The cottage itself is very comfortable and cozy. I would recommend this cottage and would go back again! The village of Hubbards is close by with grocery store, NSLC and a wonderful farmer's market on Saturday morning. There is also a great restaurant called The Trellis.

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

As two travelers from Alberta on our first trip to the east coast we weren't disappointed with out stay at the Drift In cottage. It was a very nice reprieve from Halifax and in my opinion a better view into what true east coast life is all about.

The cottage itself was in a fantastic location for exploring the coast, I would definitely recommend you have a car as there are a ton of little fishing communities to explore as soon as you get on the highway. And this is where seafood lovers find fresh and delicious lobster and other ocean treats! There's a restaurant about a five minute drive from the cottage where you can get a fresh lobster dinner - Debbie and Derrick were good enough to include information for this and other local restaurants in the info binder you see as soon as you arrive. We took a trip to Peggy's Cove one day, neat spot but I suggest you eat before you go! The food available there is limited and expensive (tour buses arrive constantly and dump the people off at the one restaurant by the lighthouse). And for the love of Pete, STAY OFF OF THE BLACK ROCKS THERE!! Apparently people die semi regularly getting too close to the ocean for selfies.

Drift in Cottage was well appointed with everything you need to stay, I was impressed as I've been to other VRBO locations where sugar, coffee filters and toilet paper were either not supplied or very limited. If you like to spice up your food I'd suggest getting some seasoning salt or hot sauce to cook with as the spices there were a bit limited (but I was happy there was any). One thing we had trouble with was the shower, we tried positioning the head a few different ways but could not keep water from going all over the floor. The tub itself may need some TLC prior to the next guests but the cottage was clean and everything else worked well. The fire pit outside was handy in the evenings to enjoy the sounds of the ocean and just relax, Debbie came by on our second day to bring out the kindling and paper for us to get it started - so nice of her! The wood that was stacked up beside the pit was wet and wouldn't burn so we had to go foraging for more. It would have been good to have been provided the first bundle of firewood (aside from the kindling) with directions to the nearest location to buy more if needed.

I definitely suggest you stay at Drift In as it was the perfect relaxing end to our first east coast adventure. Debbie and Derrick were both fantastic hosts!!
