Hi! It's such a pleasure to be hosting on Homeaway!
I am originally from New Zealand and my wife Rebecca is from Scotland. We have been living in the States for the past 14 years. I'm an opera singer and have sung at opera houses and concert halls around the world. My time at the Sydney Opera House was my favorite! I love music,, nature, being with my family, and writing.
I'm a festival organizer and opera producer- a sort of self styled "operapreneur". I started the The Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice a few years back and I now run the Kingston Festival of the Arts and Opera Theater of Kingston in my newly adopted favorite city- Kingston, NY.
We have two young kids- Edrick and Rosa. Edrick is 5 and a wild nature boy Rosa is 11 and is an amazing pop singer, fashionista and artiste. We moved from the heart of the countryside in Phoenicia to the "big city" of Kingston just a few months ago and loving it!
We have lived in many places around the world, but think Kingston is one of the most beautiful- and has a perfect balance of city life, beautiful architecture and nature. Kingston is also a hidden gem only being recently "discovered" and reimagined by creative people who love its innate beauty and energy and love to visit and even stay,
Kerry Henderson purchased this apartment in 2014
Our stay here at Studio 286 was perfectly lovely. Kingston is a beautiful and welcoming place which was aptly mirrored in our "apartment away from our apartments" here. Thank you so much for making our fourth of July mini getaway such a comfortable, relaxed and memorable one
the property was spacious and well equipped. it was also spectacularly located.
Until now, lodging options in Kingston, especially near uptown, were limited and overpriced for what you get. No more! This beautiful apartment is a comfortable and convenient haven for your Hudson Valley adventures, all at a reasonable price.
We were a party of four -- Mom and Dad, Grandma and teen -- visiting Kingston for a family event. We had plenty of space and everything we needed. The apartment was perfectly clean and the furnishings were all new.
We loved being in the center of Uptown. There are so many good restaurants it's almost difficult to decide which to pick. A free Jazz Festival was taking place the next block over the evening we arrived. Cool!
In sum, highly recommended.
We recently stayed here for a total of six weeks while working in Kingston on an independent feature film. The rental was refreshing, clean, up-to-date and incredibly comfortable, providing everything we needed for such a long stay. Six of us shared the three-bedroom space and we had plenty of room and always felt like we were at home. The owners are magnificent, friendly and incredibly helpful. And the location was ideal for all kinds of great food, coffee and outings. I can't recommend this enough!
a lovely apartment and great hosts. Everything was so seamless and organized for our arrival and departure and the stay was lovely. The apt is incredibly spacious and well-laid out. We had a great time and will definitely be back!
Uptown Kingston is in the midst of a culinary and cultural renaissance. Just seconds from the NYS Thruway 87 exit 19, you will find yourself surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, charming streetscapes and a cool new vibe driven by artists, filmmakers and creatives who are flocking to Kingston for its beauty, affordable studio space, proximity to NYC and artist-friendly attitude. Great restaurants, taverns and cafes abound within minutes from Studio 286- many with chefs trained at the nearby Culinary Institute of America. The Award winning Yum Yum Noodle Bar is just across the street, Le Canard Enchainee, without the doubt the best French Restaurant in the region is next door and Studio 286 is above Tripadvisor number one Mediterranean style Ecce Terra Restaurant. "Backstage Productions" offers live music with local and internationally acclaimed bands and singer/songwriters most nights of the week. "Stockade Tavern" is an upscale bar with killer cocktails and great ambiance just along the street. Every Saturday in season the Kingston Farmers' Market offers organic locally sourced produce on Wall Street. Festivals abound with the Kingston Festival of the Arts bringing world class performances in opera. chamber music , dance and theater. O Positive Festival in October features local and international artists and Kingston Film Festival is garnering much attention.
Kingston consists of three distinct neighborhoods- Uptown (The Stockade District), Midtown and Downtown (The Rondout waterfront district). Due to the mighty efforts of the present city administration, these three once quite separate districts are now working together to form one connected and fascinating city. Midtown is redefining itself as an arts district and several developments have re- imagined once derelict industrial buildings as artist accommodations, studios and lofts. The street scape along Broadway is about to change with new sidewalks, bike paths, street lighting and plantings. Visit UPAC- the beautiful historic opera house in the middle of Broadway which presents the best of national and international talent on a regular basis. Monkey Joe's Coffee Shop is an awesome place to grab a latte- and Frank Guido's Little Italy has excellent cuisine.
The Downtown Rondout area has a wonderful marina and you can walk along the waterfront and enjoy the old port. There are lots of great restaurants in the Rondout- we'd highly recommend visiting our friends at Mint and also Ship to Shore and if you want to dine right on the water you can't beat Mariner's Harbor. The Hudson River Maritime Museum is definitely worth a visit. Ulster County Tourism have a great information center where you can get suggestions and information about attractions throughout the area. Check out the beach at Kingston Point and Kingston Point Park (Rotary Park) has great vies of the historic lighthouse.
Kingston is a very walkable city. You can leave your car at one of several municipal lots only a block or two away from Studio 286 and walk to all the attractions of the neighborhood. Hannaford's Plaza with an open until late supermarket and all convenience stores is only 5 minutes stroll.
