About the property

Two Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps Six, Close To Port Elgin Beach Or Southampton Beach

Come and enjoy the beautiful sunsets in Port Elgin. This two bedroom cottage is located across from Miramichi Bay and is nestled in a small cul de sac with several other cottages. Port Elgin is a beach town with lots of fun things to do with the family. Port Elgin beach has summer concerts, flea markets and fireworks most long weekends. There is a wide paved walking/biking trail that is 6km long and runs from Port Elgin along the shores of Lake Huron to the neighbouring quiet beach town of Southampton. Southampton is a great place for families with small children. The beaches offer shallow entry for quite some time into the lake so you don't have to worry about the water being too deep for the little ones.

The area offers the Bruce Children's Museum, a BMX track, library, MacGregor Provincial Park and lots of great shops and restaurants. Come explore Lake Huron with the family!

Our cottage is located just a three minute drive to the main Port Elgin beach or if you choose to use the biking trail you can be there is 5 to 10 minutes. We are equally as close to the South Street beach in Southampton.

Our cottage is located in a quiet area with wide paved roads that are great for the kids to roller blade, bike ride and skateboard. There is also a large recreational field beside the cottage as well as wooded walking trails and sand dunes. Enjoy the back deck while BBQing and enjoying a drink. The kids will be anxious to start roasting the marshmallows for the smores around the fire in the backyard. Bring the family dog so it can also enjoy the family vacation.

This is a two bedroom cottage with one Queen size bed and a double bed in the other. There is also a pull out sofa bed in the living area to allow sleeping in the cottage for six. We have a large open kitchen with most amenities from home; fridge/stove/microwave/toaster oven/coffee maker/Tassimo as well as the Propane BBQ on the back deck. The cupboards are filled with all the dishes and utensils you will need. We have Satellite TV with DVD Player and lots of movies for you to enjoy. There are ceiling fans in all the rooms as well as air conditioning. The cottage is well maintained and has new windows and doors. This is a housekeeping cottage which means that you will receive the cottage clean but you are expected to leave it as you received it. All the cleaning supplies are in the cottage for that purpose. You are required to bring with you all the bedding you will need during your stay. The cottage has plenty of pillows and blankets. You will also need to bring your towels and dish cloths etc. There is coin operated laundry facilities available on the cul de sac for your use.

About Michelle Shipley

Brad grew up spending his summers in the area and was anxious to share his childhood memories with myself and our children. We have owned property in the area ever since. The beaches are absolutely fantastic for small children. Southampton is our preferred beach for quiet weekends at the beach. However, we love going to Port Elgin beach for their concerts, flea market and the many different events they hold.

Michelle Shipley purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Michelle Shipley chose Saugeen Shores

Quiet, close to the beach and great for small children to play safely.

Property was well maintained, and projected a "homey" feeling that made our family feel welcome

  • 5 of 5

The overall feel of the cottage was welcoming. All of the appliances and tools we needed were provided to do any tasks or jobs or cleaning we needed to do. The location was great and close by tourist spots to watch the sunset, and close to the path so we could go biking. The cottage was close by port Elgin and south Hampton. If we ever return this will def be our first choice for location

Perfect Fit

  • 4 of 5

Our family enjoyed staying at this cozy cottage located between Port Elgin and Southampton in lovely Saugeen Shores. A stones throw from the lake and completely accessible to the boardwalk and trolley stops this fully equipped 2 bedroom cottage provided us with the perfect location for a summer getaway. Air conditioning, bbq, fire pit and laundry were some of the extra amenities that added to our stay. Definitely plan to book again for next summer and maybe even a short stay in the fall.

Cute and tranquil

  • 4 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised with Hodge's Haven August 29th to Sept 5th 2016. It offers a pleasant mixture of rustic charm with modern amenities. The front porch is perfect for watching those amazing sunsets and the back deck offers a private sanctuary with a gate so our dog could be outside without being tied up. There was no shortage of things to see and do in the area from beautiful beaches to quaint small town farmers markets. The local shops from Port Elgin to Wiarton offer a unique shopping experience. Our entire stay was truly enjoyable with perfect weather every day and we did not even care that the satellite was not working.

Beautiful Cottage & Surroundings.....😃

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at Hodges Haven July 16-23rd. The Cottage is lovely with beautiful decor. Plenty of room with 2 bedrooms and a pullout couch in the living room. We had free Wi-Fi..watched movies..enjoyed the A/C on the very hot days. The kitchen is large with all you need to make your own meals including a microwave. A nice front porch with 2 rocking chairs you can relax and read while seeing Lake Huron just off in the distance. The back has a spacious patio, a BBQ and awesome firepit area. The cottage is located in a beautiful area with trails, a bike path you can take right in to the Main Beach in Port Elgin.

We were very impressed with the cottage and it's cleanliness. We also left it the same way.

The price was excellent for a week's rental.

We would rent again in a heartbeat..thanks Michelle!

Great cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Hodges Haven. It has everything we needed, and it was bigger than it looked in the pictures. It was clean when we arrived and we were happy with the whole experience. There are a few trails around for walking, biking, etc. which were nice. We discovered the one going through the woods the day before we left. I would definitely recommend this cottage. It is close to the grocery store in Port Elgin and also the beach. Also not far from Southhampton. Overall great location.
