My name is Carolyn and I am managing this lovely home for my parents. I have spent several years traveling abroad, I have lived in Ann Arbor, Los Angeles, Austin, and now Chicago...and I am speaking honestly when I say that Leland is still my favorite place to vacation!
My husband and I are both architects. We enjoy the outdoors, wine and FOOD.
My parents, the owners of this cute house, are both in the restaurant business. My father was raised in Leland and descends from a long line of Leland locals. My mother, a native Michigander, spent much of her youth in the Leland area where she eventually settled down with dad. Their dedication to the County and Leland life runs deep. We're all in love with the area!
Carolyn Telgard purchased this cottage in 1995
After having lived in town for 18 years and now visited as a vacationer, I am convinced that the quality of life in Leland CANNOT be beat. Our sleepy little town will keep you active and outdoors spring - fall, and will give you necessary pause and repose in the winter (though don't be fooled - there's LOTS to see in do in the snow too!!!). Leland really has it all. I miss it terribly while I am away...always looking forward to the next visit.
The Chandler Cottage has the best of everything. It's location is prime - downtown is easily accessible, the beach is yours to enjoy! ...And yet, in your down time while you're relaxing and recovering for your next adventure, the cottage provides quiet sanctuary away from the bustle of the town. Small, Midwestern town living at its ABSOLUTE BEST.
Wow! This immaculate cottage is just perfect for weekend get-aways. We chose to go to Wine Country for a girls weekend up north in quaint Leland. The cottage was perfect for us! Super clean, super tidy, very user-friendly, and in a safe and perfect location.
The manager, Carolyn, was wonderful to work with. All of our needs were met and even got to meet her father at the Bluebird Tavern (lots of fun for evenings out!). Every room has descriptions and "how to's" printed up in frames.
I would not hesitate to stay here again. A perfect weekend up north in Pure Michigan!!
We were attending a wedding in Leland and looking for a special place to spend the week and were so fortunate to discover this little cottage. It was the perfect place for us-close to downtown, Lake Leelanau, the Lodge, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, and all of the local attractions. The cottage was very well maintained, neat and clean with all of the amenities you would want. Plenty comfortable for 4 adults with room to spare. We need to thank the bride and groom for introducing is to Leland where we are already planning on visiting again as there was so m ugh more to see and do. And when we return we will definitely rent this little cottage again. The property manager was most accommodating and easy to work with and made great suggestions on how to best explore the town and surrounding area.
When looking for a cottage for our summer vacation, we did not want to spend $5000 for a big house located right on Lake Michigan's shores. Instead, we opted for this wonderful cottage located minutes away from Leland 's restaurants and historic Fishtown. The cottage is very clean and is in a quiet neighborhood; the pictures that accompany this listing are absolutely accurate. All appliances were in perfect working order when we were there. There is an iron and portable ironing board available for those who need to touch up clothes. This was our first visit to Leland; we enjoyed everything this small town has to offer. We enjoyed the local restaurants, including the Bluebird, the Early Bird and the Cove, took a day trip to South Manitou Island, visited Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and spent time at the beach despite being in Leland during a cool and damp week! We brought our bikes and used them daily, both in town and on the trails in nearby Glen Arbor. We enjoyed each day in Leland and northern Michigan, and we savored our time we spent in our "home away from home" while we were there. If Leland is in our future vacation plans, we will definitely be returning to this cottage!
My wife and I stayed at this delightful cottage for 11 days, late summer of 2014. It served our needs totally. The cottage is excellently located on a quiet street, a modest walk or short bike ride from the charming little town of Leland and only a few hundred feet from Lake Leelanau–the ready access to swimming and boating was a treat. The cottage is comfortably, cozily furnished. The bed was comfortable. All of the amenities worked excellently. The premises were clean. Arrangements for our arrival and entry were well planned. The owner was congenial and accommodating in our dealings with her and readily available by phone for any concerns or questions, including our suggestions for minor improvements, i.e., additional lighting in the living room, an additional bed stand for a lamp in one of the bedrooms. We would gladly return and would confidently recommend this cottage to anyone seeking a comfortable, unpretentious little vacation spot.
It is a lovely cottage but lacking in a number of areas. 2 of the 4 burners on the range did not work, there is no ice maker or even ice trays in refrigerator, only 2 small skillets (1 egg size ) & bare minimum cooking utensils in kitchen. Glasses apparently had not been washed upon our arrival that were in cupboard. Just needs some personal attention overall.
We went to Northern Michigan to unwind and spent our time hiking, kayaking and bicycling. This cottage was an excellent base for all those activities. The access to Lake Leelanau was a block away, and we were able to leave our kayaks there. It was a short walk to the center of town where we were able to go to the beach, buy groceries or treat ourselves to ice cream cones. We're an outdoors-oriented middle aged couple, and this cottage was just what we were looking for. It was simple, practical and had personality. We'd happily stay there again.
