About the property

Seasonal Rental Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps up to 7)

Conveniently located near popular area attractions and outdoor activities, Fern Creek Cabins offer in-season (Memorial Day Weekend through November), affordable vacation lodging in the beautiful mountains of southern West Virginia. Our two cabins sit on 40 private acres of pristine hemlock forrest near the north rim of the New River Gorge National River. Both cabins feature hot tub, outdoor fire-pit, gas grill, fully equipped kitchens.

For those who just want to relax, Fern Creek Cabins offers plenty of space to roam about the property. Our cabins have comfortable porches equipped with grills and hot tubs, outdoor fire pits, and lots of beautiful yard space for throwing horseshoes or playing softball.

We welcome well behaved pets.

We ask our guests to not smoke in our cabins.

While our 2 cabin's share the peaceful seclusion of the Appalachians, it is but a few short miles over New River Gorge Bridge to downtown Fayetteville, named 'Coolest Small Town in America.' Come visit and take a walk around. You’ll find a vibrant shopping district and fantastic restaurants, windows to browse with lots to buy, and a lovely town park.

'Endless Wall Trail' lies a mile around the corner which tours one of the wonders of the New River Gorge -- the unbroken cliffline known as the Endless Wall, which follows the rim of the gorge and offers access to dozens of bolted climbing routes. Breathtaking panoramas await hikers as the trail leads along the top of the cliffs through gnarled pines, mossy boulders, and rhododendron thickets.

About Tom & Janet Atack

Natives of southern New Jersey we vacationed and experienced our first rafting trip and were instantly in love with the beauty of West Virginia.

Tom & Janet Atack purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Tom & Janet Atack chose West Virginia

We have now owned Fern Creek Cabins for nearly 6 years. We have made many improvements, the latest a complete remodel of the 2 bdrm kitchen and living room. We've also replaced cabinets and counter tops in the one-room.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tom & Janet, I wanted to personally thank you for letting us stay in the cabin! We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend and I hope we might be back to visit again sometime. The late check out helped us really enjoy the day on Sunday. The kitchen is so great to cook in-everything you could need is there! We loved all the thoughtful touches-the zero gravity chairs, the heater in the bathroom, the dvd library...That queen bed is so comfortable, I actually took a picture of the label! I also had just two suggestions: put some blinds in the bedroom to block the light-we had bright moonlight and then bright sunlight. Also, perhaps a curtain on the front porch to provide a little more privacy on the front porch. You can rest assured that we will spread the word about your gem of a property! It's really quite fantastic. Respectfully yours, Marylin

Warm and cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at the cabin with a group of rock climbers during a chilly week in november. Lots of cooking, games, knitting, hot tub, and of course climbing. The cabin was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The master bed was very comfortable, and I heard the pullout was a little less supportive, but worked fine. Thank you Tom and Janet for the hospitality!

We really loved staying in the cabin! The setting is so peaceful, it's a great place to get away from stress and worry. The cabin is very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the hot tub, the zero gravity chairs, the heater in the bathroom, the very comfy mattress, the well appointed kitchen. Took the dogs for walks in the woods and went out to Beauty Mountain for the beautiful vistas of the gorge. Tom & Janet were very responsive in their communications and were able to accommodate our request for a late check out. Would recommend this to anyone seeking a comfortable getaway.

Charming, Well-Kept, and Close to Everything!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed here in the fall, and despite a couple rainy days, we had such a wonderful time! This cabin is close to Fayetteville, close to hiking trail heads, and close to lots of antique stores & restaurants. The cabin itself is wonderfully charming, with two bedrooms and one shared bathroom, along with a full kitchen and living space with porches to sit and take in the evening air. The kitchen is fully stocked to make meals, and the living room is ready for you to listen to music or watch DVDs (if you get stuck in the rain some like we did!). There is also a fire pit with four chairs for sitting outside and roasting marshmallows and looking at the stars (which thankfully we got to do in between the rain showers). You can drive just a few mins up the road and can get on the Endless Wall trail that has breathtaking views of the gorge, or drive a few more minutes into the town of Fayetteville for nightlife and food and shopping. We also took our two dogs, who absolutely love the farm life - there's plenty of space to run and play, and the cabin even has a water bowl set up on the porch already. Bring your bathing suits, too. The hot tub was wonderful on a misty, chilly day! The owners and their son were so accommodating and very responsive to inquiries. We're already talking about coming back next year!!

Quiet and relaxing

We enjoyed the cabin for an anniversary getaway, as did our cats. The interior has been redone some since we visited last year (we miss the Welsh dresser) and seems more open. It's a great out of the way but not too out of the way place near the Gorge, with great stars in the sky and wildlife on the property. The jarring gravel road that you travel on for the last bit needs some work, though - it hasn't improved in the last year!

Wonderful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful cabin located in a very peaceful and secluded area, but not too far to get to Fayetteville for awesome restaurants. Stayed here for 3 days/2 nights and we wished we could have stayed much longer. The cabin is very well maintained with a newly updated kitchen and living area. It is very clean and has every amenity that you could need. The property that it sits on is beautiful and serene as well. We sat outside on the porch swing and enjoyed relaxing. We were very happy staying here and have already discussed planning a return trip to the area and decided we would stay at this cabin every time we return. Thank you!!!

Absolutely Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was more than we expected and filled with all the amenities. It was comfortable, exceptionally clean and modernized complete with the best appliances and comfy beds. The location is secluded and private yet conveniently located within a short drive of an incredible array of trails, restaurants, outdoor adventure companies and breathtaking scenery. The hot tub was warm and inviting on the dark, country nights filled with stars. The air conditioners kept the house pleasant on the hot days and made sleeping peaceful throughout the night. The well-stocked movie library was a nice touch and we enjoyed watching movies together while winding down from our busy days in town. We will most certainly be back to make more family memories together!
