Beautiful property, amazing beach, lovely sunsets

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Cottage in the Pines on Lake Kanasatka. The location on the lake couldn't be better -- and it would be hard to find a better location on any of the lakes -- the beach is huge and private, with a very long, sandy, shallow incline. Great for small kids. There is a good mix of sun and shade, and the sunsets are beautiful. The beach is about 100 feet long and is completely your own. There is a short stone wall on one side separating it from the neighbor’s beach so you can see them, but they were very quiet. The lake is perfectly clear. Small enough to kayak the perimeter in just a few hours but large enough that you feel like you’re on a lake and not a pond. There are some ski boats but not too many. Jet skis are not allowed. There are a few “personal watercraft” but they weren’t too noisy. The dock was functional but not very wide, and probably not amenable to tying up a boat -- it was only knee-deep at the end. There are monstrous wolf and fishing spiders, but that's to be expected! The house is huge and well-kept given its age. The pictures online are recent and relatively accurate although there have been a few updates since the photos were taken: The master bedroom has a king bed (the photo shows 2 twins pushed together), and there is a couch in the den (just a couch, not a sleeper sofa) so if a child wants to sleep there it could be considered a third “bedroom”. There is wi-fi. My only complaint is that there is no deck and actually no entrance from the back of the house to the lake. So, to get inside you have to walk around to the front of the house and go into the kitchen or the den. With kids, I was vacuuming several times a day just to keep up with the sand and pine/hemlock needles. The screen porch was lovely and somewhat made up for the lack of a deck. Also, the house smells kind of musty, but it was OK once we aired it out. Overall, a great house for the price and an incredible, private location.

Owner's Response: I'm happy you enjoyed your stay and hope you are able to return next year. The king bed in the Master bedroom was an upgrade this year. I will see that the photos are updated to show the change. Also I will make sure the place is aired out prior to the arrival of guests. It's a beautiful spot where many memories have been made!
