Loon Cove Cottage is the Moose Pond retreat you've been searching for. Whether you are looking for a peaceful place to enjoy the lake or a launch site for outdoor adventures, you will love our waterfront home.
Moose Pond is a gem of the Lakes Region of Maine. It has clean, clear water for swimming, boating, fishing, or plenty of ice for skating, snowmobiling or ice fishing in winter. You can spend the day exploring the lake with our canoe or rowboat or lounge for hours fishing or reading on the docks. Shawnee Peak is just down the road and Sunday River is only 40 minutes away.
Just behind our 3 acres of woods, Pleasant Mountain rises with views of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. You can hike to the summit right from our backdoor, stopping for blueberries along the way. If larger mountains are calling, we are an easy drive from the White Mountains and many Maine hikes or ski mountains.
The cottage is a family home with board games, a fireplace, and plenty of woods to explore. There is a large deck overlooking the water for family barbecues on our charcoal grill. We are close to many summer camps and it's a great spot to turn a quick drop off or visit into an extended vacation in Maine.
The Brown family is enjoying the 3rd generation of children to grow up at the wonderful Wyonegonic and Winona Camps on Moose Pond.
Katie Brown purchased this cottage in 2015
Moose Pond is a little slice of paradise. We can spend days exploring the lake and relaxing into the rhythms of life on the water or head out for adventures in the mountains, lakes , and rivers nearby with the knowledge that we have a place to return at the end of the day and watch the loons as the sun fades.
Having your own waterfront with docks, boats, and the wildlife of the lake is so special.
My wife and I spent a great month at Loon Cove Cottage, from mid August through mid September. For a number of years we rented here through the previous owners, and when they put it on the market we found other accommodations, since our rental could not be guaranteed. We were contacted by the new owners, and came back after a 2 year hiatus. It remains the wonderful place we were used to. The setting is great and the cottage is warm and inviting. Moose Pond is great for swimming, fishing, boating, floating, or just gazing at! The Ledges Trail, for Pleasant Mt. is a short walk away, and the views are terrific. We had a plumbing issue, and Mill & Katie were very responsive in trying to resolve the problem. This is truly a special spot to enjoy the peace and beauty of lake living!
The house was perfect for our group everything listed was available. The house is in a little cove with another house adjacent. We had two Labradors and were a little nervous with the neighbors but they were very nice and had no issues with the dogs swimming. Great location and tons to do in the area. We had a wonderful time and would recommend to anyone looking to get away and enjoy some time on the lake!
We just got home from a beautiful vacation in Maine at Loon Cove. The house is open and bright and clean. Moose pond is beautiful! We love to take canoe trips and on the southern part of the pond is a natural cove where we saw Eagles, beaver, wood ducks, black ducks, a great horned owl, and more. Loons visited us every day and night, even one mom with two babies. We also had barred owl fledglings surround the deck one evening. The kids loved swimming off the dock and catching toads. We climbed Pleasant Mountain. And it was a beautiful 45 minute drive to Story Land. Bridgton is close by and has shops and restaurants to explore. But the highlight is really the beautiful cottage and Moose Pond with its wonderful view and peaceful atmosphere.
This was a perfect getaway spot for my family - including my young sons. They loved fishing off the dock and taking the canoe around the lake. Your recommendation of Uncle Lunker's Bait Shop nearby was perfect! Some good restaurants in nearby town - but we also enjoyed grilling at the cottage and enjoying the beautiful lakefront view. Very relaxing and quiet. Nice neighbors. And a well stocked wood pile allowed us to make fires and roast marshmellows at night. We also enjoyed the hiking trails just down the road. It was a pleasure to work with Katie - she was so friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back to Moose Pond!!!
OK, so to disclose... I am writing this review while still in the rental home and I am in absolute heaven!! The location and view are fantastic. This is such an incredible place!
The house was in perfect shape and very clean when we arrived. And, everything was exactly as described. Moreover, the owner was very responsive to all of my questions before we arrived so we were very prepared for all that this awesome place has to offer :)
This morning my son nearly had a meltdown when I told him that we could not live here forever and we have to head home soon. I can't really blame him- this is the best family vacation we have ever had. We swim and chill on the docks in the nice weather, and if it is rainy or cold we make fairy houses in the woods by the stream! We are going to head in to North Conway tomorrow and check out the town, but would be just as content to hang out here all day and relax.
So... I don't want to write a good review because I want to keep this little gem all to myself. But, not to worry- we will be booking future vacations here every year as soon as we get home :)
If I could post a picture it would be of my hubby chilling out in the canoe last night and catching a large mouth bass. Or, of cozy-ing up to the warm fireplace last night. Or, of my kids feeding the ducks outside right now. Maybe it would be of the full sky of stars last night that is so incredible up here in Maine.... I can't choose one that best captures this place. It is an incredible place- thank you!!!!!! (we will be back!)
I normally wouldn't write a negative review but I think others interested in this rental should be aware that the owner will try to swindle you out of your security deposit.
In our case, the owner claimed we damaged the futon. Know this going in - the futon is piece of junk that barely unfolds... I suggest you take a picture of it so you can show it to VRBO as evidence when the owner tries to steal your deposit. We did not take pictures when we arrived, so we were not able to show that the house was pretty nasty when we got there. There were dead bugs everywhere in the kitchen and there were food scraps and crumbs caked into the futon and scattered on the blankets. The owner had inferred in an email prior to our arrival that they had not been up to the house yet this season, so I'm not sure who they have taking care of it but the caretaker did a poor job.
The outside property is nice and the lake is a beautiful. The only downside is there are no oars for the row boat - we had to ask the neighbors to borrow theirs. When we contacted the owner to ask about the oars, the response time to both email and voicemail was slow and the description of where they "might be" was worthless.
We were able to make due with what we were given and have a nice time. The problems started after we left - we followed the owner's exit guidelines exactly, yet the owner claimed we left the house in "the worst shape we have ever experienced" which was an absolutely absurd accusation.
I was pretty surprised at the owner's lack of basic integrity - they seemed nice in communications leading up to the rental. I brought this issue to the attention of VRBO so hopefully the owner will have a harder time making false claims against the next group.
Moose Pond is a gem in the Lakes Region of Maine. You can fish, swim, or canoe from our private dock. Climb Pleasant Mountain right from our cottage or head to the nearby White Mountains of New Hampshire for more outdoor attractions or outlet shopping in North Conway. Many local summer camps are nearby if you are looking to extend your drop-off or pick-up into a vacation in Maine.
Fall foliage is spectacular and winter brings new outdoor pursuits. Shawnee Peak is minutes away and Sunday River is 40 minutes north.
