This charming four bedroom cottage features 350’ of unobstructed ocean views toward Casco Bay and the islands, located just 5 miles from Freeport's hundreds of outlet stores and restaurants, and just 30 minutes from Portland.
The cottage is set just 75 feet from the shoreline, with ocean views from every room. Set far back from a dead-end road with a large yard, this tranquil location is perfect for families with children. Private stairs to the shore offer great swimming during high tide. The newly-remodeled kitchen was fully updated in 2014 with all new appliances, and all new mattresses and linens throughout the house as well.
The 4 bedrooms are spread out along the shoreline, each with an ocean view.:
Master Bedroom - 1 king bed
Bedroom #2 - 2 twin beds*
Bedroom #3 - 2 twin beds
Bedroom #4 - 1 queen bed
* Two twin beds can be pushed together for the equivalent of one king bed.
Situated at the end of the Wolfe's Neck peninsula, a high-end rural neighborhood with bucolic country feel yet right on the ocean. Watch the sailboats ply the coast and the lobstermen pull their traps right from your deck. June brings fireflies dancing through the grass, and you may even witness horseshoe crabs spawning on the shoreline.
If you own or rent kayaks, launch right from the cottage to enjoy some of the best saltwater kayaking in Maine. Bald eagles, osprey and blue heron abound, and you may even greet a local seal.
Just down the road, Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park offers some of the best oceanfront and forested hiking in Maine. You can even try your hand at clamming there during low tide!
Adjacent to the State Park is the nonprofit, oceanfront Wolfe's Neck Farm. The 626-acre organic demonstration farm protects 4 miles of ocean frontage on Wolfe's Neck, and is open to the public every day. Walk their miles of hiking trails, visit the animals in the barnyard and enjoy a summertime ice cream or pizza from their snack shack. Kayak, canoe and bicycle rentals are also available, and they offer farm tours by haywagon on summer weekends. Families with children ages 4-14 can enroll their kids in a week-long farm day camp during the summer. You might even catch a farm-to-table dinner or barn dance in their historic barn!

The cottage location rates a 5+ with gorgeous ocean views and close proximity to Wolfes Neck Farm and the trails of the State Park. We are aficionados of classic Maine camps but found the cottage itself to be very rustic and missing some useful items such as napkins, dishpan, dish rack, dish towels, (advertised dishwasher not functional) flashlights, candles, and games. In addition there is a serious toilet leak and some of the screens and windows need repair. Could be five stars all around with some attention to maintenance and the addition of some simple amenities.
This cottage is perfect for any family. The location was perfect. My sons had acces to the beach to use their kayak as well as their paddle board. The huge deck overlooking the bay was very relaxing to sit and watch the water or have a family cookout. The four bedrooms are small with very clean bedding and all have beautiful views. The kitchen was all up to date with everything we needed.Just a short drive brought us to the outlets which we certainly took advantage of. Jackie, the manager was so very pleasant to deal with. She went over and beyond to help us. Jim greeted us the first day we arrived. He made sure we had everything we needed and made sure we knew he'd be a phone call away if we needed anything. This is a wonderful place. I highly recommend it .
Prior to officially opening, our family of 6 came to stay at The Crate House for a week in June 2015. This lovely cottage on the water has wonderful views, is comfortable and attractive, and evokes traditional Maine waterfront cottages. It even smells good! There was plenty of room for our 4 children, and a lovely master bedroom for us. The kitchen had just been re-done and is very well laid out. There is even a nice sized laundry room with a second bathroom (shower) off that.
We were fairly close to Freeport, allowing us to go to the movies, shopping, and giving us access to 2 grocery stores (The Bow Street Market is wonderful!). The cottage has steps down to a typical Maine Coast rocky shore, with wonderful tidal pools filled with sea creatures, at low tide. Our children, ranging in ages from 7 to 14, were able to hike in the nearby state park, ride their bicycles on the long sandy road, and our youngest enjoyed a week at Summer Camp at Wolfe's Neck Farm. LL Bean, in Freeport, offers all sorts of "classes" and activities which we enjoyed- especially the kayaking! We got to see numerous birds, including osprey and even a BALD EAGLE!!!
We'll be back!
The Wolfe's Neck peninsula is a spectacular setting for any authentic Maine vacation.
