About the property

Charming Four Bedroom Cottage Featuring 350’ of Unobstructed Ocean Views

This charming four bedroom cottage features 350’ of unobstructed ocean views toward Casco Bay and the islands, located just 5 miles from Freeport's hundreds of outlet stores and restaurants, and just 30 minutes from Portland.

The cottage is set just 75 feet from the shoreline, with ocean views from every room. Set far back from a dead-end road with a large yard, this tranquil location is perfect for families with children. Private stairs to the shore offer great swimming during high tide. The newly-remodeled kitchen was fully updated in 2014 with all new appliances, and all new mattresses and linens throughout the house as well.

The 4 bedrooms are spread out along the shoreline, each with an ocean view.:

Master Bedroom - 1 king bed

Bedroom #2 - 2 twin beds*

Bedroom #3 - 2 twin beds

Bedroom #4 - 1 queen bed

* Two twin beds can be pushed together for the equivalent of one king bed.

Situated at the end of the Wolfe's Neck peninsula, a high-end rural neighborhood with bucolic country feel yet right on the ocean. Watch the sailboats ply the coast and the lobstermen pull their traps right from your deck. June brings fireflies dancing through the grass, and you may even witness horseshoe crabs spawning on the shoreline.

If you own or rent kayaks, launch right from the cottage to enjoy some of the best saltwater kayaking in Maine. Bald eagles, osprey and blue heron abound, and you may even greet a local seal.

Just down the road, Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park offers some of the best oceanfront and forested hiking in Maine. You can even try your hand at clamming there during low tide!

Adjacent to the State Park is the nonprofit, oceanfront Wolfe's Neck Farm. The 626-acre organic demonstration farm protects 4 miles of ocean frontage on Wolfe's Neck, and is open to the public every day. Walk their miles of hiking trails, visit the animals in the barnyard and enjoy a summertime ice cream or pizza from their snack shack. Kayak, canoe and bicycle rentals are also available, and they offer farm tours by haywagon on summer weekends. Families with children ages 4-14 can enroll their kids in a week-long farm day camp during the summer. You might even catch a farm-to-table dinner or barn dance in their historic barn!

We just returned from this awesome home. There were 6 in our party a family affair ages from 40-81. There was an awesome view of ocean, great location, and plenty of shopping if that's your idea of a great vacation. The home is close enough for a day trip to Boston. It was also close to Amtrak which I recommend highly ( Amtrak Downeaster) a 3 hour ride into Boston and a great upper car for viewing . So don't delay and visit this wonderful home

An amazing location - nestled next to a beautiful state park and close to everything.

Our group of 8 stayed for 4 nights in this cottage at the end of August and were really amazed at the location. The house is charming and perfect for families or couples. Plenty of room with private access to the coast. It feels like you just stepped into a postcard from Maine! Jackie was great at communicating and was really helpful with all our needs. We will definately be staying here again. My suggestion is to take full advantage of all that Wolf's Neck State park has to offer.

rustic cottage with priceless charm and incredible location

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for waterfront, "beach" that sort of thing, this isn't your first choice. If you like action and Route 1 activity, this is definitely not for you. If you are fussy and want everything just so, pass on this. But if you're looking for quiet, get-away-from-it-all, and you enjoy rustic Down East architecture, I'm not sure how you could do any better. The water access is suitable for experienced kayakers, good swimmers who can deal with rocky access, etc. The back yard and deck overlooking the water is pure tranquility. The great room is just a joy to be in. The kitchen and bathroom facilities aren't state of the art, but they are quite adequate and surprisingly better than expected for a rustic cottage. Wireless internet works well; a software engineer stayed with us for a couple days and worked remotely. I can't say if the TV works; had absolutely no reason to turn it on. If you are planning a wedding or similar event at the Mallett Barn or Wolfe's Neck wedding field this location is superb. The manager is helpful and nearby in case anything comes up or if you have questions about anything.

I would return in a heartbeat.

It was a great experience, the location was amazing and everyone was very helpful and prompt.

The area is beautiful! The history of the Crate House is something we did not know before our arrival so it was a pleasant surprise for us to stay in a home with such a colorful history. Jim, and Jackie were helpful and took care of an issue with the water heater promptly. The home has most items that are needed, the only problem was the dishwasher that does not work, but we managed just fine. Great location!

Wonderful location

  • 3 of 5

This was such a peaceful location! We enjoyed hearing the Osprey and the water lapping on the rocks. We were just close enough to BowMarket to feel well fed and yet far enough from commercial activity to feel tranquil. We were welcomed by Jackie and she was helpful with activities we could do on a rainy Friday, such as go to the Bowdoin Art Museum!

Great location

  • 3 of 5

The cottage location rates a 5+ with gorgeous ocean views and close proximity to Wolfes Neck Farm and the trails of the State Park. We are aficionados of classic Maine camps but found the cottage itself to be very rustic and missing some useful items such as napkins, dishpan, dish rack, dish towels, (advertised dishwasher not functional) flashlights, candles, and games. In addition there is a serious toilet leak and some of the screens and windows need repair. Could be five stars all around with some attention to maintenance and the addition of some simple amenities.
