Moonraker House is located approximately 107 miles north of San Francisco off historic and scenic Highway 1. The house is one mile away from the ocean.
Our two bedroom, two bathroom home has an upstairs deck, private hot tub, WiFi, cable televisions, a fully equipped kitchen with bedroom linens and bathroom towels provided.
With 50 miles of private beach, bluff, and forest trails, picnic areas, tide pools, three recreational centers, two marine reserves, a fenced dog park, and an 18 hole championship golf course, there is something for everyone to do without leaving the local area.
Gualala, the closest town, is 8.7 miles north with grocery stores, specialty shops, restaurants, a bank, post office, and gas stations.
Six hundred fenced sheep and goats graze the common areas to eliminate fire hazards and follow The Sea Ranch philosophy of living lightly off the land.
The artist community of Mendocino is fifty-eight miles north and Fort Bragg is nine miles north of Mendocino. Both places are perfect day trips to explore, shop and eat. Charter boats are available for fishing and whale watching in Fort Bragg.
Grey whale migrate December through March and can often be seen off the shore or by boat.
Seal pups are born late March and early April and can be viewed from the bluff trail above the reserve.
Observe pelicans, cormorants, and oyster catchers from ocean bluffs and on the beach
Redwood violets and trilliums bloom around our house in March and April. Then in May and June the Rhododendrons are in full flower.
The Sea Ranch thespians present two productions a year, one in spring, and one in fall.
My parents purchased our family vacation home in 1990 after several years of renting homes on The Sea Ranch and searching for the perfect home for us.
My father wanted a house in the forest and my mother wanted something close to the ocean. This home is the perfect blending of the two.
Catherine Salm purchased this house in 1990
We are blessed to be able to share our peaceful home with you. Since our house is located in the forest, we do not have the foot or road traffic the other places do. We rarely see people or cars in the area or on the trails nearby and appreciate the serenity.
The ocean, towns and beaches are close by to explore and there are plenty of things to do in addition to just quietly relaxing in the redwoods.
My husband and I couldn't stop gushing about how wonderful this home is and it helped make our vacation perfect. The house feels like a home the minute you walk in and has a rustic charm to it with all of the wooden beams and paneling. It is three stories and sits up on a hill, secluded in the redwoods. We were less than a mile walk from Black Pointe Beach and had multiple hiking trails in the forest and down at the coast. We could have easily spent two weeks there and ended up extending our stay one more night than we'd originally planned.
We enjoyed the hot tub, which is deep and very hot, every day/night on the deck surrounded by forest and were able to stargaze every night. We were fortunate to be able to bring our little dog with us. He had a blast too and loved bird watching out the living room windows. The house has three stories (downstairs are the two bedrooms and a full bath, main level is the kitchen/ living room with a full bath, and the upstairs is a really neat loft area with a sun deck off the side). Husband and I were in major need for a vacation in nature to refill our souls and get rid of everyday stresses. This place helped all of that!
We ended up cooking dinner every night in the well equipped kitchen. We went to Surf Market (a 10 minute drive to Gualala) daily to pick up fresh, local seafood and ate like kings. We also spent an afternoon horseback riding on the beach with Ross Ranch (Amazing!). We are definitely making it back here as often as possible.
Catherine, our host, was super helpful the entire time. My husband said that out of all the vacations we've taken so far, this was his number one and I totally agree. Thank you, Catherine!
We spent a very rainy 3-day weekend in Sea Ranch. This house was conveniently located to all of sea ranch. We were able to walk down to the beach and walk up to beautiful trails. The hot tub in the middle of the trees and the coziness of this sweet home compensated for the lack of sunshine.
This home is simple and beautiful, secluded and tucked away in the trees. The hosts have been very thoughtful about making the stay easy and straightforward for guests. The kitchen is well stocked and the hot tub on the back deck is incredible!! The hosts were so communicative and easy to book with. Thanks for a great vacation.
We stayed over Christmas at Catherine's beautiful Sea Ranch vacation home, and couldn't have been happier. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking Christmas dinner, the fireplace was lovely, and the rooms were very comfortable. We took advantage of the setting in the woods for walks with our two dogs, and also made several trips to nearby beaches. The hot tub was idyllic! We would definitely recommend this listing, and hope to come back again. Thanks!
The owners are very willing to work with you and any requests you have. Catherine was very prompt with emailing me back and was really helpful. She even gave us tips on places to eat in the area! The house is really cozy and has everything you would need to have a weekend getaway with your partner or friends. Would definitely stay there again!
Our stay at the Moonraker House was amazing! Such a peaceful and relaxing getaway in the beautiful redwoods. The house had everything we needed, including lots of wood for the fire, a bbq ready to go, and a nice multi level layout. I really enjoyed the top deck making it feel like we were in a tree house. Several beaches were just a quick drive away but we chose to bring our 1.5 year old daughter to One Eyed Jacks wooden playground and hike down to Shell beach. We had an entire cove to ourselves for the day, except for the little seal colony sleeping on the tide pools. We spent some time walking the many trails around the neighborhoods, getting lost in the magnificence of Sea Ranch. We enjoyed the hot tub under the super moon and were surprised waking up to rain the next morning. The owners were very easy and responsive with communications. A plus, we got to bring our little dog too. I would definitely recommend this house and would consider renting again. The whole area is so magical, it's a must if you want to recharge and take in the gorgeous California Coast. Thanks so much for the memories!!
