Bruce grew up in Wisconsin and went to college at Stout. One of his professors told him "Work where you want to live". The most beautiful place I have every been is Stanley, Idaho."
Bruce came out West and settled in Ketchum, Idaho in 1979. An Interior Designer, Bruce has a flourishing business in Sun Valley. Kelly moved from Gig Harbor, Wash. to Ketchum in 1984. Kelly works at Sun Valley Company. Our two grown children grew up at the cabin learning to fish, Backpack, mountain bike, dirt bike, build a fire and appreciate the outdoors with all the area has to offer.
Kelly Martin purchased this cabin in 2001
Bruce and I love the Stanley area. Only 1 1/4 hours away from our home, we are lucky to have a :slice of Heaven" on the Salmon River.
After using our extended family's cabin in Stanley for years, we finally, along with another family, bought this cabin five miles downriver at Casino Creek. At the time, the cabin was a 20 x 15 foot room with a tiny bathroom and loft. It had one door and one window! We added the large deck, the bedroom, extended the loft, added windows, built the shed and we are always updating every season. In 2013 we purchased our partners interest. We own the land, we do not lease from BLM, like most properties along the river. Casino Creek was a Dairy farm that was purchased in the 1880's as part of the historical Homestead Act. Originally 400 acres, it has been sold twice before us. The second owners purchased in the early 1950's and sub divided the river lots into 1/2 acre parcels. We have two of the 18 river lots.
Summer and Fall are the times to visit Stanley as the weather is beautiful.
Often the coldest place in the lower 48 states in winter, summer temperatures are warm and dry with cool evenings. Fall offers beautiful Indian summer days and cold nights; perfect for late mornings and relaxing evenings inside. A good day spend outdoors enjoying your favorite activity, a game of horseshoes, a good campfire, and time in the hammock makes for a pretty good day at the cabin. Everything you need is there; often times we never leave the property in a day. There is so much reward in hanging out on the deck watching the river go by. We see salmon in the fall migrating, rafters, stand up paddle boarders floating by. Fisherman on rafts casting for trout. It's all good!
this very special cabin sits right on the spectacular Salmon River on quiet road! We were there in mid-October after a 2 day reunion in Ketchum/Sun Valley. The cozy cabin has all the right touches without being over done. The king bed is fantastic and all accessories are at your fingertips. Even with an early snowfall, this was a great location from which to hike, fish, site see and relax. The owner was so helpful in suggesting places to eat and visit (i.e., natural hot spring locations!). Highly recommended for couples or small family. Can't wait to return for longer visit!
The cabin was just what we were looking for - cozy, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals, if you want to dine in. The master bedroom bed was very comfortable. The backyard was great. We enjoyed having a fire right along the river. It is a short drive from Stanley and Redfish Lake. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with.
I have to say this was the best vacation we have been on in a long time. It all started with renting this quint home. The house is 5 miles from lower Stanley and we enjoyed cooking and eating on the deck as much as going out to eat. There are so many hikes/trails in Stanley to pick from. We took a 6 hour hike starting from Little Casino Creek which is very close to the house and can even walk to the trail head. probably the most popular hike is Sawtooth Lake and Alpine lake hike. The hike is about a 20 minute drive from the house to this national trail head hike. It is a must if you enjoy hiking etc.
I must also say the owners were very easy to work with while planning our trip. They sent us the key in plenty of time for our trip and I even had several conversations with the owner.
This was everything we had hoped for when we booked this cabin. We were so pleased that there was so much outdoor stuff available! Our 18 month old loved it, and so did we. We will definately be coming back!!
What a great cabin! The location was private but close to the darling town of Stanley. We had such a great time on the property. Lots of amenities. Kelly was so kind and helpful and available to answer our questions and give us suggestions for our stay. The cabin was lovely and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed. We definitely felt like welcomed guests.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Salmon River cabin. We had everything we needed for our stay and the cabin was lovely! We loved the area and had time for hiking and enjoying our evenings by the outside fire pit. We would love to return and spend a little more time!
