About Kelly Martin
Bruce grew up in Wisconsin and went to college at Stout. One of his professors told him "Work where you want to live". The most beautiful place I have every been is Stanley, Idaho." Bruce came out West and settled in Ketchum, Idaho in 1979. An Interior Designer, Bruce has a flourishing business in Sun Valley. Kelly moved from Gig Harbor, Wash. to Ketchum in 1984. Kelly works at Sun Valley Company. Our two grown children grew up at the cabin learning to fish, Backpack, mountain bike, dirt bike, build a fire and appreciate the outdoors with all the area has to offer.
Kelly Martin purchased this Cabin in 2001
Why Kelly Martin chose Stanley
Bruce and I love the Stanley area. Only 1 1/4 hours away from our home, we are lucky to have a :slice of Heaven" on the Salmon River. After using our extended family's cabin in Stanley for years, we finally, along with another family, bought this cabin five miles downriver at Casino Creek. At the time, the cabin was a 20 x 15 foot room with a tiny bathroom and loft. It had one door and one window! We added the large deck, the bedroom, extended the loft, added windows, built the shed and we are always updating every season. In 2013 we purchased our partners interest. We own the land, we do not lease from BLM, like most properties along the river. Casino Creek was a Dairy farm that was purchased in the 1880's as part of the historical Homestead Act. Originally 400 acres, it has been sold twice before us. The second owners purchased in the early 1950's and sub divided the river lots into 1/2 acre parcels. We have two of the 18 river lots.
What makes this Cabin unique
Summer and Fall are the times to visit Stanley as the weather is beautiful. Often the coldest place in the lower 48 states in winter, summer temperatures are warm and dry with cool evenings. Fall offers beautiful Indian summer days and cold nights; perfect for late mornings and relaxing evenings inside. A good day spend outdoors enjoying your favorite activity, a game of horseshoes, a good campfire, and time in the hammock makes for a pretty good day at the cabin. Everything you need is there; often times we never leave the property in a day. There is so much reward in hanging out on the deck watching the river go by. We see salmon in the fall migrating, rafters, stand up paddle boarders floating by. Fisherman on rafts casting for trout. It's all good!

This cabin was amazing and the owners were very helpful and kind. It was almost impossible to get my wife and daughter to leave when it was time to go home. Stanley is a magical place, explore it!! But please keep it a secret.

Charming log cabin, inside and out
My adult daughters and I spent a weekend at this charming log cabin. We loved the mountain decor when we entered, found the kitchen fully stocked with all pots, pans, spices, an updated bathroom with lots of hot water, and the king sized master bed was so comfortable! There were views to the river from all rooms, and the river was only steps away. The stereo system (CD) was even loaded with music that we all loved... what an added bonus. It didn't hurt that we had perfect, crisp, cool Fall weather, so we were able to enjoy the hammock and had a campfire one night. It's a quiet neighborhood, too, which we appreciated. The house is not large, but we preferred the coziness as there were only three of us. We had an absolutely wonderful time!
once again, the cabin, the aura, the whole experience far exceeded our expectations. a lot of heaven on this earth. thank yoyu for sharing your home with us....we will definitely be back in 2 years!
Comfy cabin perfect for family weekend
Lovely setting w very comfortable beds and outdoor furniture to take advantage of the location. Cabin is clean. They had everything we needed for cooking meals. Very enjoyable weekend.
We are so glad your family enjoyed your stay at the cabin. Cooking at the cabin is always rewarding as the view and outdoor table are so inviting. Even though the kitchen is small, we do have everything to make fabulous meals. Please visit again and thank you so much!
Vacation Cut Short
As far as location, the cabin is situated off the beaten trail and close to the Salmon River yet close to various hiking trails and attractions. The cabin had much of what we needed, but included a family of mice and no propane for the grill. When we asked about the propane, we were encouraged to take the tank up to Lower Stanley and have it filled at our own cost- as the owner was uncertain how we would be reimbursed. Needless to say, we made our meals indoors which was a bummer. As for the mice, we left a day early as they were getting into any food sitting out (we learned quickly to put everything in the refrigerator and bread box we taped shut) and there were droppings throughout the cabin..including our bed. When one of the mice made themselves known to our son in person, we knew it was time to leave. Mice are cute, but not inside a house or cabin (regardless of being in the wilderness) We still have not heard from the owners regarding a refund for that night's rental fee. Sadly disappointed as this could really have been a perfect stay. The Sawtooth Mountains are AMAZING!
A little piece of paradise
Small, well-built and decorated cabin in the woods with the most amazing view of the Salmon River. Cozy ... great for a couple or small family. I definitely recommend it.
Thank you Carol for your Review.
The cabin is cozy and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay.
Being on the river is special. The sounds of the river and the view are part of what is so nice about being there.
We hope to see you again. Thank you!
