About Kelly Martin

Bruce grew up in Wisconsin and went to college at Stout. One of his professors told him "Work where you want to live". The most beautiful place I have every been is Stanley, Idaho."

Bruce came out West and settled in Ketchum, Idaho in 1979. An Interior Designer, Bruce has a flourishing business in Sun Valley. Kelly moved from Gig Harbor, Wash. to Ketchum in 1984. Kelly works at Sun Valley Company. Our two grown children grew up at the cabin learning to fish, Backpack, mountain bike, dirt bike, build a fire and appreciate the outdoors with all the area has to offer.

Kelly Martin purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Kelly Martin chose Central Idaho

Bruce and I love the Stanley area. Only 1 1/4 hours away from our home, we are lucky to have a :slice of Heaven" on the Salmon River.

After using our extended family's cabin in Stanley for years, we finally, along with another family, bought this cabin five miles downriver at Casino Creek. At the time, the cabin was a 20 x 15 foot room with a tiny bathroom and loft. It had one door and one window! We added the large deck, the bedroom, extended the loft, added windows, built the shed and we are always updating every season. In 2013 we purchased our partners interest. We own the land, we do not lease from BLM, like most properties along the river. Casino Creek was a Dairy farm that was purchased in the 1880's as part of the historical Homestead Act. Originally 400 acres, it has been sold twice before us. The second owners purchased in the early 1950's and sub divided the river lots into 1/2 acre parcels. We have two of the 18 river lots.

What makes this cabin unique

Summer and Fall are the times to visit Stanley as the weather is beautiful.

Often the coldest place in the lower 48 states in winter, summer temperatures are warm and dry with cool evenings. Fall offers beautiful Indian summer days and cold nights; perfect for late mornings and relaxing evenings inside. A good day spend outdoors enjoying your favorite activity, a game of horseshoes, a good campfire, and time in the hammock makes for a pretty good day at the cabin. Everything you need is there; often times we never leave the property in a day. There is so much reward in hanging out on the deck watching the river go by. We see salmon in the fall migrating, rafters, stand up paddle boarders floating by. Fisherman on rafts casting for trout. It's all good!

Cabin on the Salmon River

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect! This was our fourth visit to the Stanley area, but first to this cabin--we definitely will be back. Cabin is perfectly set up with fully equipped bath and kitchen and probably the most comfortable bed i have ever slept on!. We grilled dinner most of the nights as we spent our days hiking, fishing, kayaking, etc. Kelly kept trying to call and see how our stay was, but we were too busy out having fun. Afternoons were spent on the deck, relaxing, reading and just viewing the scenery. Evenings were spent by the campfire---Idyllic!

Owner's Response: Linda and Bill, We are so happy the cabin met your needs and expectations. You did travel quite a long way to vacation in beautiful Stanley and the Sawtooth Mountain area. We did not know that you had been in Stanley before and we appreciate that you liked the cabin and plan to return. It truly is a special place. The typical Fall weather is beautiful with warm days and cooler mornings and nights. This allows a slower pace in mornings to enjoy cribbage and coffee in the cabin or sleep in. Enjoy the warmth of the day hiking, biking, or exploring Redfish Lake. Then dinner grilled at the cabin. A soak in the natural hot springs in the evening just two miles upriver is a perfect way to end your day. This time is year there are less crowds and is not to be overlooked as a great time to visit in Stanley. We hope to see you next year! Thank you, Kelly and Bruce

Cabin on The Salmon River

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay for 7 days. With mountains on each side of the cabin, the sunrises and sunsets were amazing. Each evening after an adventurous day we would lay in the wonderful hammock by the river and have a drink and star gaze. The cabin has a very well equipped kitchen that was perfect to cook our fresh trout from the river. It was hard to start each day because the bed was so cozy and with a beautiful view towards the river. Kelly and Bruce were perfect host and responded to any needs that we asked of them. They recommended McCoys Tackle Shop for all our fishing needs and we booked a Fly Fishing float trip through them. The BEST DAY EVER on our fishing float trip with our wonderful guide Verlon. Our other adventures took us to Bay Horse Ghost Town, Shoshone Falls, Sun Valley, Frank Church/River of No Return Wilderness Area (Where we were lucky enough to see a pair of Wolves) and Redfish Lake. Even though each place was a good many miles, we fished each trip there and back along the rivers and streams. It was so hard to leave this peaceful, cozy place and go back to reality. KEEP CLOSE TO NATURES HEART. BREAK CLEAR AWAY ONCE IN AWHILE, AND CLIMB A MOUNTAIN OR SPEND A WEEK IN THE WOODS. WASH YOUR SPIRIT CLEAN... John Muir

Owner's Response: Wow! We are so glad you embraced all that our beautiful area in Idaho and comfortable cabin have to offer travelers. The wilderness, the rivers, the famous Ski town of Sun Valley and all the geological areas of interest as well as Redfish Lake offer so much to enjoy. After a full day's excursion there's nothing like coming back to the cabin and relaxing on the double Hammack by the river and having a campfire, sleep in a comfortable bed and then do it all over again the next day! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you!

Heavenly Riverfront Cabin

  • 5 of 5

A dream place right on the river. This cabin is quaint and cute with modern updates and artistic touches everywhere, and I mean everywhere- but you have to look! It was difficult to leave the cabin since it was so cozy and filled with fun stuff, but I spent a restful afternoon on the deck while my husband fished just a few yards away. My only regret is that we had just two nights here since we booked late, but Kelly and Bruce are outstanding hosts and readily available for any concerns. I want to go back now! Thank you for sharing this piece of heaven with us.

Great spot on the river

  • 5 of 5

Cute cabin. Very well equipped kitchen. Nice outdoor spaces, large deck with room to sit/relax and picnic table to eat dinner. Town of Stanley has nice restaurants. River activities- fly fishing, floating, hot springs. Hiking, places to mountain bike. We stayed close to a week and had plenty to do.

Would recommend to friends. Large master downstairs and loft for kids.

Owner's Response: Jim and Pat, Thank you for your nice review. For the outdoor adventurer, Stanley and the Sawtooths offer so much to see and do. You planned your stay carefully and did research online before your arrival. That is so smart as you knew the best places and activities to see and do. Stanley has good restaurants for a town of 66 people! Also, thank you for pointing out that the grocery stores in Stanley have more to offer than I had led you to believe. Cooking at the cabin is a nice alternative to going out and I 'm happy that the kitchen met your culinary needs. Thank you and we hope you will share this with your friends!

Family trip

  • 5 of 5

Great place for a family retreat, cabin had everything you need and then some - we did not have pack a lot of extra.

Lots for kids to do, hikes , biking and the river - the fishing was slow but still had a lot of fun.

Owner's Response: The cabin lends itself well for a family of four, both young and teenagers. The loft is fun for the kids to have their own space, although small, it is cozy. Being on the river and on an acre parcel, there are plenty of activities on site for young children to keep busy and have fun. We are glad your family was able to stay on a short notice. That is rare as the cabin is popular! Thank you Adam and Family.
