My island is not for everybody, definitely not the elderly or folks with infants. Located in Medway Harbor, about 2000 feet (10-12 minutes) from our private wharf and protected parking. I supply a row boat and two sea-going kayaks. Maybe a small outboard. Cooking is on an antique wood burning stove and oven. Wood burning stove in bedroom. The dock may be difficult at low tide (six foot tides). The fold-down stairs to the loft are steep. No internet. No TV or VCR. Ice chest for refrigeration. I start you off with 5 gallons (8 hours) of gas for the generator and 5 gallons of drinking water. The nearest towns are Liverpool and Bridgewater, both about 20 minutes by car. Often foggy and sometimes the wind howls for days.
But the cabin is insulated like an Igloo cooler. The smallest of fires keeps it toasty. Completely rebuilt in 2009 with insulated windows, new kitchen, new wiring, modern lighting, 3500 watt generator, microwave, flush toilet, hot water shower, new wharf and several large decks. 360 degree water view, to the north the movie-set town of Vogler’s Cove. To the south, 3 miles across the harbor, Port Medway. Hand-dug well with DC pump. Watch eagles, mink, seals and seabirds during the day and listen to the loons at night. Large deck on the southern tip of the island offers spectacular sunsets. Friendly natives. Easy kayak to Cherry Hill Beach and Great Island. Without leaving the island one can mackerel fish in the summer and hunt duck during the fall. Fire pit with plenty of wood.

I travel. Been to 73 countries, every US state, nine provinces of Canada, across Russia from St. Petersburg to Outer Mongolia, 151 islands and 20 seas (The Aegean, North and South Atlantic, North and South Pacific, the Black, the Japan Sea, the Med, the South China, the North Sea, the Red Sea, the Baltic, Caribbean, Java, Yellow, Philippine, Tasman, Bali, West and the Bering Sea.) Just returned from Cambodia. Off to Cuba next month. Recently discovered Columbia but still spend six weeks in Asia every year.

Searched for something in the Carolinas, Montana and Colorado. The first day I stumbled upon the South Shore of Nova Scotia I stoped searching. Then searched for the best spot and I think I found it. Fun fact: Latitudewise, Vogler's Cove is less than 150 miles north of California.
Free air conditioning. Great neighbors. Cheap lobster. Fishing off the wharf, kayacking all over the place, sailing in the dingy and cruising in the center console. Luckily, I enjoy working on the island bungalow since there is always something that needs work out there. I occassionally go longlining with Danny who lives across the cove or play cribbage with Randy or Louis or shoot pool against the famed Merrill Smith.
This year we plan to join the yacht club so I can back into racing sailboats.
Life ain't bad up there.
