The location of this apartment is great. It's right in the Castro, close enough to everything that it's an easy walk, but far enough to not be overrun with people. It's a short uber or cab ride to all the touristy stuff downtown. We didn't try to figure out any public transit stuff, so I can't comment on how convenient it is for that. The unit itself is pretty nice with a large bed in the big bedroom and a good sized living room with a couch and two chairs. The couch pulls out into a bed (full size I believe). It'd be tough to get 4 people in this apartment unless two people are ok sleeping in a full size bed together. We had three people so it was no issue. The apartment came with towels and toiletries and was pretty clean (the kitchen was not the cleanest, but we never used it). The biggest complaint I have is the windows. They are drafty and let a lot of noise in. I was woken up in the morning by pedestrians and pigeons, because the windows let so much noise in that it sounded like they were all standing above my bed. The draft also makes the room a bit chilly, especially at night. Luckily there were a lot of blankets to keep us warm. Overall, I'd recommend this apartment for a stay! Especially given the price we paid, it was very good!
It was clean, 4 people fit nicely due to the pull out couch, pretty good location.
Only has one small towel each, no towels in the kitchen to dry dishes, lots of noise at night due to being close to the road, no extra towels in the bathroom.
The place was fine, nothing fancy but fine for a short San Francisco visit.
The place is in a good location. I have been there many times and love the Castro district!
The apartment is dirty, it smelled odd, chemical-ish. The bedding needs a really good wash. ALL of it. the sheets over the dirty duvet are not good enough. And the extra blankets both had stains that were washable. It really grossed me out.
Then we get to the fact that the heater leaked gas our second night there, I had to call someone, who called someone, and they told us to go stand outside (at 10:30 pm) and wait for the gas company. Nobody called me the next day, and my daughter and I could have died. Pillow tried to reconcile this by calling me a few days after I had gotten back to MN, and gave me a night free. Enough? I don't think so, and will NOT use any places that are run by Pillow again and I cannot get a owner run place.
It is VERY loud, too. That part of the street has a bus stop and it is crazy loud. The place right next door is great. We have stayed there multiple times, but couldn't get a last minute res. It is always booked, and I know why!
First, I would like to say that I do not usually give unfavorable reviews. However this VRBO has too many problems to ignore. The apartment is okay for 2 people, but it was very crowded for our family of 4. When we arrived, the only bed that was made was in the master bedroom. There were no garbage bags in the waste baskets and I would guess that no one did a thorough cleaning of this apartment before we arrived. The towels and one set of linens (should've been 2 sets) were in a garbage bag on the only bed in the apartment. Although there are two convertible beds in the living room, one was broken so the apartment does not sleep 4 as advertised. Additionally, I noticed that there were no wash cloths or hand towels in the apartment. We called the management company "Pillow" right away. They said they would contact the owner and resolve the situation. We received no call back that night and my 6 foot tall son had to sleep on the 2-seater couch - which was unacceptable since I paid extra! I called again in the morning and had to retell my story from the night before. They promised that they would send someone over to the apartment with a blowup mattress, but stated that they do not usually supply wash cloths or hand towels(?). I have never stayed at a VRBO where there were no wash cloths or hand towels provided. After our evening tour of Alcatraz, we returned to the apartment to find no air mattress. I called "Pillow" again and they said that someone had been dispatched. It was 10:30 at night and we were exhausted, so we headed to bed. At 11:30 pm, "Pillow" delivered the blow up bed. 4 calls to "Pillow" and no return calls to my cell phone - unacceptable. In all fairness, when we arrived back home 2 weeks later - there were return calls on my house phone in Connecticut - even though I gave them my cell phone number each time I called. Despite all of this, we managed to have a good time in San Francisco. As the other reviewers have stated, if you decide to stay here - a car is more of a problem than an asset.
Great location to get around the City. The other reviews are right - Castro St is BUSY and there is a bus stop right under the window of the apartment. The parking situation was a huge bummer. The advertisement for this apartment is deceiving - it says park anywhere along Castro or the side streets. I probably should have realized this (it is San Francisco after all) but all of the streets are two hour only then you have to move the car. I was hoping to ditch the car and use public transportation but that didn't quite work out. Wonder if the owner could leave the residents parking pass at the apartment for use...?
We stayed for 3 nights and it was okay but the walls/windows are THIN. Also heard the upstairs neighbors walking around, dropping things on the floor in the middle of the night. Never did get AC to work as the place got stuffy but overall the value was good. Ample parking was in the description, however beware that signs indicate hours to park. This was a bummer as we wanted to park our car and use public transportation for our entire trip. Instead, we had the stress of moving the car often.
