About Klara Higgins
I am originally from New Jersey 30 minutes from New York City. I don't miss it one bit. Wahington is one of the most beautiful states. I have lived here for 35 years and if you love the outdoors this is the place.
Klara Higgins purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Klara Higgins chose Republic
My family has been coming to Curlew Lake for several years. We stayed at a small resort. The cabins were built in the 40's and not very comfortable. I new that this area was a place I wanted to come to whenever I could. One day while fishing we saw a for sale sign on the end of the dock. The owners invited us in and I new this was a special place. We made an offer and they accepted. When you arrive in Republic you feel like you have gone back in time. It is an old gold mining town and many of the buildings are original. The population is barely over 1000. I drive 3 hours to get there and it feels like 5 minutes. There are so many outdoor activities! It is sooo quiet at night all you here is the breeze. This place is my little piece of heaven. I have been all around the world but my heart is here.

Love this place
This is our second year staying at this cabin. It is perfect for three couples. With the loft it can accommodate many more. The kitchen is well equipped. The large deck is a great place for bird and water watching, morning coffee and all meals, but it gets kind of toasty in the late afternoon. A big shade umbrella would be a good addition. I love this lake. It is quiet, peaceful and a beautiful area. The house is on a quiet cove. We make good use of the kayaks and paddle boat. Fishing off the docks and boats was very good. Nice rail trail nearby, also good hiking in the mountains along hwy 20. We swam in the lake and found it to be a little muckier than last year, but still swimmable. The host is very responsive. I let her know that one of the outside steps was broken and she had someone there to fix it the same day. We had a great stay once again. Thanks, Klara!
Glad to hear that you had a good time. It is a very special area. One feels as though they have gone back in time. Unfortunately the big pine tree that provided good shade had to be cut down. It was leaning more and more towards the cabin. An arborist deemed it a danger tree. For guests comfort I will be installing a new awning. I will post pictures on Homeaway when completed. Hope to see you and your family back next year.
Thanks Susan !!
Great family vacation spot!
Thanks so much. We had a great trip. Loved the house and location.
Clean and a great size for our family
I think the pictures should be updated, because they just don’t do justice to this house. We had a group of 12 and there was ample space. The kitchen was stocked with everything we could need, the place was clean, and Klara was great to work with. We loved kayaking and my nephews caught fish after fish from the dock. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Our Second Time Here!
This was our second time staying here, and when we come back to Republic, we will return here for sure. This cabin is a great place for small or large groups. With the 3 bedrooms and roomy loft area, there is plenty of room for multiple families. Everything we needed was here, and having dock access was a treat. Thanks for a great stay!
Lovely Home, Lovely views. Quiet and Very Clean.
They whole family had fun and didn't want to leave. We had a great time on the water and enjoyed hanging out at the cabin.
Memorial Weekend Get-Away
Once again we had an excellent time on this lake while staying at this large and comfortable cabin!

They filled barrels with whiskey and floated them from Canada to the. US on the Kettle River. Afterwards you can enjoy a lazy afternoon float tubing on the river.
