About the property

Waterfront Cottage in the Adirondacks, South Colton Ny

18 miles from Potsdam/22 miles from Canton. Featured article in the Latitudes Attiudes sections in the LakeHomeRealEstate . com.

This cabin sleeps 7, 8 if you use the sofa. The cabin is now tan and blue.

There is a set of six Intex river run connecting tubes with a beverage cooler attachment to relax on the lake along with a couple of floating loungers. Floating island will be set up once the water warms up from mid June through August.

Hickory kitchen cabinets and appliances are new with a peninsula that accommodates four stools. Dining has a hickory log dinette. All the conveniences of home. As you walk out of the kitchen, please enjoy your 10'x20' deck with an upholstered love seat & 4 upholstered chairs with a coffee table. A charcoal smoker/grill is available for you and your guests to enjoy.

Many games and books supplied for you on the bookcase.

Living room with TV and DVD player with a cozy couch and plenty of seating.

From the kitchen deck there are steps leading down to a large grassy area. You'll see a group of blue Adirondack chairs around a fire ring near the waters edge.

The beach is fairly sandy and gradually deepens, great for swimming which can be hard to find. The main channel is on the other side of the lake. Most of my guests spend the day swimming, floating or fishing and nights around a bon fire. All State Land across the lake so boat traffic is not a problem. There is a sandy area for you to bring your boat.

Bring your fishing poles......walleye pike, northern pike, small-mouth bass and yellow perch are ready for you to catch and release, or better yet, make use of the smoker.

You'll love it!

Have fun and take lots of pictures! Be sure to find my fb page and post them there.

About Doris Rorick

I love upstate New York and miss it very much. I had lived there for 12 years, before that I grew up in Southern California. My family is located in California and Texas so I recently moved to Texas to be closer to my children and grandchildren. I have 3 daughters, 1 son and 5 grandgirlies.

In upstate NY, you can't drive more than 30 minutes before seeing another river, stream or lake. I used to keep a fishing pole in my truck in case I had the urge to pull over and see what I might catch. NY is so obviously different that California (which I love as well). You take life at a much slower pace and enjoy the beauty of being in and around nature.

Doris Rorick purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Doris Rorick chose Adirondacks

Love at first sight with this property. I used to camp out on the reservoir just up the road from there. On my way home from the campgrounds I had seen the for sale sign and stopped in to take a look. It's hard to find homes for sale in the area. They are typically passed down. Anyway, I stepped in and fell in love with the view. and had to stop in my tracks when I saw the wall of windows facing out towards the lake.

What makes this cottage unique

The day that I stepped into the home I was hooked, couldn't take my eyes off the lake. When I go back to visit, I find myself instantly relaxing and starring out, just like the first day that I stepped in. The area is in very peaceful location. You wont have to worry about boat traffic so you can relax and let the kids play in the lake. The cabin has a cozy, homey feel to it. I love hanging out on the deck. There's a conversational sitting area on the deck where I sink myself into the love seat to talk with friends over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Another pass time that I enjoy is to dip in the lake. In the summer the water is perfect. When my kids would visit, there was always a campfire going. Plenty of wood is supplied for your enjoyment.

We rented during the fall. Everything was exactly as described. The house was lovely, and the property was beautiful and peaceful. The owner was very helpful. We would definitely return again.

Absolutely Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time we've rented the Inn. Very clean, private, beautiful. This place had a roll boat that I used to fish in the middle of the lake early morning, relaxed in the floating island in the afternoon, and had a huge bonfire staring in the sky enjoying the evening with glass of my favorite wine. The patio view was to die for. This place supplied real silverware, dinnerware, pots and pans - every spice you can think of, all we had to do was bring our groceries, cloths, and toothbrushes because everything else was supplied. We are planning our next vacation for June 2017! Thank you Doris for the specials this year.

The house was clean. The location was amazing. Very very private. The neighbors are very nice people. Our dogs absolutely loved the lake. It's very clean. We swam for hours each day. I plan on booking again next summer. We went with 4 people and the house can easily accommodate 8 adults without being cramped.

We LOVED our stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

The house and the location are perfect for a family like ours or a couple who are looking for a romantic getaway. It was quiet, private and safe for the kids to wade in the lake. We saw a bald eagle cruise by feet away and grab a fish from the water! Everything guests need is provided, including comfortable furnishings and clean linens and towels. The wall of windows overlooking the lake lets in all the beauty of the surroundings. We recommend The Wild Center at Tupper Lake a scenic 45 minute drive away. We also visited Lake Placid while we were there. Best of all, we caught dinner- bass, blue gill and trout - in the Raquette River near town. The kids were thrilled! We highly recommend this place. It was our first time in the area. We will go back. Next time, we might wander into Canada for the day. Thank you, Doris, for sharing your home!
