~CHARITY:WATER

"A non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Clean water means health, income and education - especially for women and kids.

Health and Sanitation:

Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren't strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.

90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are in children under five years old. The WHO reports that over 3.6% of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply, sanitation, and hygiene.

Women and Children:

In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year walking for water. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely contaminated.

Time spent walking and resulting diseases keep them from school, work and taking care of their families. Along their long walk, they're subjected to a greater risk of harassment and sexual assault. With safe water nearby, women are free to pursue new opportunities and improve their families’ lives."

~WESTERN CAROLINA RESCUE MINISTRIES (local)

"Our mission is to provide Rescue, Recovery and Restoration in Jesus’ Name. Each of the three components of our Ministry - Rescue, Recovery and Restoration - is about meeting people in crisis where they are, caring for them with dignity and restoring them to healthy, productive lives.

To really understand what we do, though, you must also understand why we serve. Our belief is that God has so much more for the men, women and children of Western North Carolina struggling with poverty, homelessness and addiction.

We are called to help bring stability to the chaos of these wounded lives and help them discover the plans and potential that God has placed in them.

Whether serving hundreds of meals each day, providing thousands of beds each year, offering a free residential addiction program, or equipping the working poor with life skills and job training, we are committed to reflecting the love of Jesus in a way that changes lives and transforms our community."

~DR. HAWA ABDI FOUNDATION (Somalia)

The Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation (DHAF)’s mission is to create access to basic human rights in Somalia through building sustainable institutions in healthcare, education, agriculture, and social entrepreneurship.

Great feels in this home

  • 5 of 5

This was not my first time staying in a vacation rental.

This was the most well thought out, home away from home that I have experienced. A truly experienced host with nooks and crannys of thoughtfulness throughout. Comfortable beds, soft sheets and towels, and very nice organic touches with a slight reggae style made for an exceptional stay.

As a cook, I enjoyed the well stocked kitchen, (a wonderful supply of herbs and spices as well as coffees and teas were on hand) and my favorite part was a well seasoned cast iron skillet on the stove which I utilized for each of our meals.

Sadly (for us), this home is for sale, so it may not be available to us next time, but if that time comes, we would certainly stay here again!

Let me clear two things up. There is no microwave-- there are two ovens, a toaster oven, and a cast iron skillet. Radiation kills the vibe. There is no washer and dryer. Organic cotton sheets that are the softest thing you ever slept on deserve care and attention, not a Tide Pod. Also, the home boasts an organic scent which improves the feel, and should not be ruined by the smell of Febreze. In addition, we had 8 people, and had ZERO issues with hot water or showers. (Nobody was dirty). Any unsatisfactory review of this spot should be met with skepticism of the reviewer, not the home. It was great. (IMHO)

It was spacious , quiet and the decks were lovely The missing microwave was a huge problem .

  • 4 of 5

We loved the space. The only one shower every half hour routine was a bother as we got in at 11:30 pm and were out the door 6 ish am. With 6 tired people. A few remained... dirty!

Quiet as advertised!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you ladies "loved the space" :) I apologize that it was a "huge problem" for you all NOT to have a microwave. I did NOT list that I have a microwave anywhere in my posting. I have not used a microwave for over 20 yrs now due to the health hazards when using a microwave, and would not want to put my guests at risk by having one here for their use. I'm truly sorry for your inconvenience though.... I also apologize that it was a bother for you all NOT to have a hot shower all at once when coming home late from the agricultural center. I have a brand new water heater that was the largest available to fit in the space where the heater is located. Unfortunately, it doesn't accommodate a large group of people wanting to take showers all at the same time. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Wishing all you ladies the best, Laurie

This was a very comfortable, clean home. We enjoyed the fun, colorful decor and appreciated the well-outfitted kitchen. The beds were very comfortable as well as the futon. We found this to be a great location for exploring nearby Dupont Forest, Brevard, Hendersonville and Asheville.
