Antigonish House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, Queen sofa bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Xanadu is the closest you can be to the ocean without taking a cruise vacation. As you arrive on location, driving over the bluff, you are confronted with a panoramic view of water. This exclusive custom (ICF) constructed property is brand new with luxury appointments both in and out. Great for those who want to relax on the New Brunswick quarried slate patio watching I fishermen directly out front in the early morning, whales, seals and eagles during the day or Hawaiian like sunsets, shooting stars and satellites during the night. To the discerning chef, the kitchen has it all. If swimming is your thing, the water at the beach has been termed the 'Warmest North of the Carolina's'.

The area is great for the active individual interested in water sports, hiking at Cape George(lighthouse site which inspired Robert Munsch book of the same name) or cycling around 'The miniature Cabot Trail' of the Cape.

The town of Antigonish, site of Highland Games and St. FX University, is only 15 minutes away. Here you can access any amenities you may require. The town also hosts an 18 hole golf course. For the serious golf enthusiast, the world class Cabot Links Golf Course is a 2 hour scenic drive away.

Rates below on this site are quoted by default in US funds. You can click on the currency convert tab to get a quote in another currency. The property is only rented out by the week during prime season.

The rate/wk in Canadian funds is $1795.00 plus $100.00 cleaning fee. The nightly rate during off season is $200.00.

Why Paul chose Nova Scotia

My wife and I chose this location as it is only a 2 hour drive to Halifax Airport and it was one of the few properties on that shore where we could gain such access to the ocean with a house/cottage.

What makes this house unique

My wife and I both enjoy cooking and this was never far from our minds when we designed the kitchen for Xanadu. The area is open concept with high beamed ceilings and no matter where you stand, all you see is ocean. There are speaker systems both in and outside the living area, so you can have soft background music playing while you create dinner for the evening.

Our time at Xanadu by the sea, Paul and Heidi's oceanfront chateau, was absolutely magical!

From the time we pulled up into the driveway and caught a glimpse of the ocean until we walked into the spacious and beautifully appointed home, we were absolutely thrilled!

The views were breathtaking. We spent hours and hours on the patio watching the waves and the lobsterman. We were greeted with friendly kisses by Bella, their sweet golden retriever. And we enjoyed so much visiting their family when we arrived.

We were made to feel so comfortable and there was not one thing that was missing for a totally, enjoyable and relaxing stay.

We loved the music that was piped throughout the home and onto the spacious patio, as well as the Wi-Fi and satellite entertainment system.

The fireplace created a cozy, glowing ambience for evening unwinding.

We enjoyed the best fresh lobster we have ever eaten as Paul connected us with one of the local lobstermen… Yum!

We also had an amazing time walking along the beautiful, rocky beach picking up stunning pieces of granite at every turn. Our little girl, 7 years old, was in heaven....picking, throwing and painting rocks!

We drove the Cabot Trail and experienced absolutely, spectacular views of Cape Breton.

We also enjoyed shopping in Antigonish and some fabulous pizza from The Wheel… Tell Mike we said hi! Also, the Dreamcatcher deli and pub had the best chocolate chip cookies and muffins ever! Thanks Roseanne and Mike!

I could go on and on but you get the picture. We highly recommend this vacation spot for your Nova Scotia dream getaway.

"A Little Piece of Heaven" in Nova Scotia

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin about our stay at Zanadu? As you are driving down the hill to the driveway, you are greeted by green grass, flowers and beautiful roses surrounding the cottage with a backdrop of the Northumberland Strait. Zanadu has everything you would need, from sunrise in the morning, to awesome sunsets in the evening. It is just steps away from swimming, fishing off the rocks or kayaking along the shoreline. The kitchen, bath and bedrooms are so comfortable and well equipped..Taking a morning shower in the outdoor shower with the sun peeking in,and again after our afternoon swim was so refreshing. The sunroom, where you can escape to relax with a cup of coffee and watch the activity on and in the water, is so cozy.

I grew up in Antigonish and it was great to come home to see family and friends and catch up,once again. My friends were equally awed by the fantastic view and the cottage, as were my family.

Paul,Heidi,Sidney and Ann made us so welcome, Paul even went out in the kayak to catch some bait fish for my grandson so he could catch bass, which Paul deep fried for us. Yummy! "Bella" had a big part in teaching my dog, "Maggie" that the waters of Nova Scotia were a wonderful place to learn how to swim. I think Maggie loved "This Little Piece of Heaven", as much as my family and I did. Thank you Paul and Heidi, we'll be back!

You have to see this getaway in person to believe it

  • 5 of 5

You never know what to expect, but honestly it was an unbelievable week. From the grand welcome we received to the calm and peace of the surroundings - it was a vacation that surpassed any others we've taken. The unobstructed view is breathtaking and the piped in music to the outdoor patio made it so relaxing. The home is outfitted with everything you could possibly need and it appeared professionally decorated and comforting. Its too bad we couldn't make use of the fireplace (it was warm that week) but I bet curled up on a Fall evening it would be spectacular. Having the ensuite washer/dryer and clothesline was very convenient while on holiday. Don't forget to try the outdoor shower, it is private and the sun is very warming on your back! The property while secluded is still very accessible to Antigonish, New Glasgow and a short ride to Caribou if you wanted to catch the ferry to PEI. There are many opportunities for sightseeing in the area. Thank you to the MacLean family including Bella who greeted us every day, you were all very gracious and attentive. We will be back!

Can't wait to go back!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful... both the cottage and the setting/view! The cottage was just perfect - well-appointed, decorated, and so comfortable; even my 13 year-old son remarked how incredibly comfortable the beds were. Everything we could possible need was there. Paul and Heidi were so welcoming, and we also enjoyed some visits from their sweet dog, Bella. Words are not adequate to describe how much we enjoyed our stay, and we can't wait to return!

A true East coast lifestyle!!!

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot describe how exceptionally wonderful and breathtaking this seaside cottage experience was. The pictures do not do justice in how wonderful Xanadu truly is, it is a place worth seeing for yourself to get a good understanding for why this place is spectacular. Nothing says "good morning" like waking up to the sun shimmering on your endless view of the Atlantic Ocean, while lobster fishermen set their traps in front of you. You then finish your day by taking a walk outside and hearing nothing but ocean. The property gives you even more of a vacation feel by being located far off the highway in a secluded area surrounded by forestry and ocean. The house itself made you feel as if you were somewhere like Cape Cod. You would never expect a place like this existed in rural Nova Scotia, but it does! I was fortunate enough to rent this home for family members for my university graduation. Everyone was blown away by the location and the home itself. By the time the weekend was finished, everyone was sad and did not want to leave the property. I myself was almost in tears because you just wanted to stay longer and enjoy the property longer. Paul was an excellent host in keeping connected with us throughout our stay. He was also very helpful in providing assistance if we had any issues. Paul has a keen eye in property and design for what people truly look for in a vacation home away from home. He certainly made us wish that we could call his place our home, and for the four days we spent there we certainly did so! There is no doubt in my mind that we will definitely return to Xanadu in the months, and years to come. We will make it a new family tradition in coming to Xanadu for family vacations. The Maritimes is the place to be, and Xanadu is the epitome of the true East coast lifestyle!

Enjoyed a wonderful getaway at Xanadu By The Sea. Cottage and scenery far surpassed our expectations. Cottage has everything you can possibly need and the ocean view is breathtaking.
