Stunning and Private Lake House With Private Beach in Scenic New Hampshire

Overview

About the property

Serene lake shore location, breathtaking water vistas, and utter privacy make this stunning New Hampshire gem a property like no other. Located at the very end of a privately-owned dirt road and surrounded on all sides by either forest or water, no other homes are visible from this property. Enjoy complete privacy as you relax in a quintessential three-story New England lakefront home. From the moment you reach the gravel driveway, lined by 19th-century stone walls and birch and oak trees, you’ll realize you are somewhere special.

Inside: Rustic doesn't have to mean roughing it! Thanks to a recent top-to-bottom renovation this fully-furnished home has brand-new bathrooms and a modern, light-filled kitchen with tasteful stone countertops and hardwood floors. This house was built with the garage as the ground floor in order to ensure that both the raised first and second floors are high enough to offer sweeping views of the lake. Cook on the newly upgraded gas stove while watching mallard ducks and great blue herons outside, or read on the veranda-style first-floor balcony. Upstairs, enjoy a morning coffee or sip cocktails at sunset by stepping through a pair of French doors onto a private balcony with breathtaking, panoramic views across the entire lake. Full bathrooms are conveniently located on each level, while both first floor and second floor living areas allow children to watch movies on the upstairs flatscreen television while adults socialize below.

Outdoors: As beautiful as the interior is, the outdoor space is what makes this home truly unique. With a small private beach and private, handmade wood dock -- as well as multiple canoes and kayaks on the property for the use of guests -- swimming and watersports couldn’t be easier. Afterwards, enjoy the outdoor, cedar shower or barbecue on the gas grill and eat al fresco on the picnic table. In the evening, sit around the firepit listening to the haunting cries of the rare New Hampshire loons that live on the lake. With the stars overhead and the forest and water all around, it is easy to forget that the convenience of Canaan Village is only a few miles away.

Canaan Lake: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and fishing are all popular activities! Significantly, Canaan Lake is one of the few lakes in the region to have banned the use of jet skis, meaning that the quiet and safety of the water is undisturbed.

The Local Area: Shop for groceries or go out to breakfast in nearby Canaan Village and enjoy a weekly Farmer's Market with the finest produce from New Hampshire -- everything from venison and elk steaks to the region’s world-renowned maple syrup as well as live music. Hike locally famous Cardigan Mountain, go berry-picking at a nearby farm, or take a day-trip less than two hours to the White Mountains and visit iconic Mount Washington. Enjoy fine dining in nearby Hanover, Plymouth, or one of the dozens of Vermont and New Hampshire inns scattered through the region.

Property is located 20 minutes from Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital, one of New England's major medical centers, as well as a 30-minute drive to Dartmouth College. Also 20 minutes away is the Lebanon Co-Op, one of the premier grocery stores in the region.

The way home should be

Alan's beachfront house has the charm of a cottage with the new kitchen appliances and space of a house. It's located right on the water with its own private dock and canoes and kayaks to use.

We had a great time on the property and on the water exploring the good-sized lake. And, as an added bonus, there were plenty of dragonflies to keep most of the mosquitoes and other pests away! We were able to grill, have a bonfire, and enjoy the outdoors without much fuss from unwanted pests.

Alan was a great host with a great 2-floor property (the basement is strictly storage). The house is very comfortable and quaint with modern kitchen appliances and DirectTV in case weather keeps you indoors. All around great place! Thanks!
