Perfection! From our reservation, Eric meeting us at the ferry dock, the wonderful welcome basket that included goodies from Sam & Jack's Deli, fully furnished beautiful Alta Vista villa, an absolutely fantastic private charter on "CatZilla" with Captain Joe through Love City Excursions a dream vacation was had by all!!! Alta Vista was our favorite villa we have had the pleasure of staying at on St. John! Thanks for the wonderful time!
Loved this villa. It was just two of us, but this villa would fit additional guests nicely with separate bedrooms/bathrooms from the main villa area. The furnishings were very nice. Some posters note the hot tub jets not working, but I found of you were a little persistent and held the buttons a little longer than expected, it worked. I used it everyday the week we were there. We rented car in cruz bay. The greeter met us at the ferry and was great taking us to the car rental and to the market before heading up the mountain. The view is fantastic from the villa and the drive to the beaches is not bad at all. I don't mind a bit of a drive when there views are so fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful villa and hope to return one day soon.
Booking through Destination St John was very easy and they were helpful in answering questions. We rented a Jeep from Amalie in St Thomas and took the car ferry over. When we drove off the ferry we were promptly met by out greeter. We followed him up to Alta Vista. All roads to the Villa are paved, but they are very steep, narrow, and have some sharp turns in places. The driveway was no issue getting in and out of. The area around the Villa has lush vegetation, almost like a rain forest. There is one other Villa next door, but you can't really see it. If you want to total seclusion, this is the place for you. When we got out of the Jeep we could hear the nature all around us and smell the beautiful tropical flowers. The architecture of the Villa is very appealing and more Spanish looking than the traditional St John Villa. Our greeter then showed us around the entire Villa and pool area, every single room. Explaining how to lock and unlock the doors, turn on lights, ceiling fans, washer/dryer, Wifi, TVs, pool, etc. There are also labels all over the Villa too which was extremely helpful. The Villa add all the basic provisions and a welcome basket from Sam & Jack's Deli. One disappointment was that the Hot Tub control panel was busted, so no jets the entire week. We still used it, but that was a real downer. The pool is a decent size for St John and was used by our two children every night. The outdoor area is like being at your own personal resort. There are Sonos speakers in nearly every room and near the pool. Download the Sonos app on your phone to use them. The Villa even had Pandora, Spotify, and several other services with premium subscriptions! So no ads, this was a really nice as we played music the entire time we were there. There is also a fireplace in the outdoor area which made for some nice aesthetics. The three bedrooms had comfortable beds with AC and ceiling fans, we used the fans, no need for AC. There is an ice maker in the upstairs area, which was great...but there was only one small cooler. Another negative is that the water did not get hot, or even warm, in the showers. On Sunday the Villa ran out of water. We tried calling the emergency number for Destination, but could reach anyone until Mon. Not having running water for over 24 hours was a major inconvenience. I would rate Alta Vista 5 Stars if the hot tub worked and if the running out of water issue was address more quickly. Despite those issues I would rent this Villa again.
We visited St John with two other couples. Alta Vista exceeded our expectations! The Villa is secluded, quite and peaceful, yet 20 minutes from town. The view is incredible. The Villa layout is great an affords privacy to every couple. The furnishing is super nice, modern and comfortable. The second story of the Villa has a full dinning area that makes for a great way to finish your day in a more "formal" manner. As a person that loves to cook, the kitchen is fully furnished and has every amenity you would ever need to prepare a gourmet meal. Three refrigerators, 5 burner stove, stainless steel appliances, BBQ grill, etc.
Alta Vista has great views. You can see Jost Van Dyke, Tortola and even Virgin Gorda.
The service provided by Destination St John is first class. Every place has small issues and they fixed them or had the parts ordered to fix the problems in the near future. You will need a car! No worries, ask the Team at Destination St John and they will guide you every step of the way.
We are planning on being repeat customers with our children and grandchildren.
Our family of four (two adults, two teenagers) enjoyed this villa immensely! From the secluded, tranquil location to the amazing view, this was the spot for us to completely unwind. You can see almost every point on the island from around the outside porches. The pool faces northeast with truly awesome views of Hurricane Hole, Tortola, Jost VanDyke and Sandy Cay, not to mention you can find a spot in the sun or shade anytime of day. Everything we needed was provided: coolers, beach chairs, pool noodles, towels, hair dryers, soap and shampoo, dishwashing detergent, paper products, books, moves, etc. We loved it so much that we even grilled-in a couple meals. Wifi worked well and we used every Sonos speaker in the villa. The drive to the villa seemed a bit crazy the first time, but after that we were used to it. You will be about a mile up from Chateaux Bordeaux. The roads are paved (unless you take the back way to Coral Bay...which is easy and quick) and no different than roads to anywhere else on the island. This villa is remarkable. If it's a peaceful setting your seeking, this is your spot.
My husband and I chose Alta Vista for our honeymoon. It was perfectly secluded, totally luxurious, and the views are breathtaking. Everything you could possibly need (e.g. kitchen supplies, other amenities) is there in the villa. Alta Vista is gorgeous both architecturally and with respect to the interior design - it really feels like you are in a palace. You can't go wrong with this choice if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful location that is still conveniently located on the island.
This was our first trip to the Virgin Islands, and Alta Vista was so amazing I could not imagine staying anywhere else on the island. Quiet, private, secluded, VIEW! Only noises are the occasional donkey bray, dog bark and lots of Whistling Frogs! We heard some neighbor children once or twice during the week, but we never laid eyes on anyone coming or going near us. The layout was great for us. Master is in main "house" with the kitchen, bathroom (with an outdoor shower) and laundry room. There are identical East and West "suites" that are separate but all on same level as the master and the kitchen. They all share the very large and beautiful pool deck. The living room is upstairs, accessed by an outdoor set of steps. L/R has dining table, wet bar ample seating, and two separate decks, the largest having the BEST view on the island.
-Plenty of bath towels, beach towels, 3 rolling coolers, beach chairs, pump soap for hand washing in all bathrooms, floats for the pool and Maho Bay!-Fireplaces outside and in the LR, which we scoffed at upon arrival but we quickly realized could be useful on a cool breezy evening (can get into the 50's at night in winter on the mtn.) -The pool was gorgeous, clean and well kept. My only complaint was that it could use some resurfacing...the surface is very rough and we ended up with several small abrasions (okay, mostly me) due to carelessness (ahem, libations). - Lots of seating around the pool. -A/C was fantastic in all bedrooms but we really didn't even need them with all the wonderful mountain breezes. -Courtyard was a perfect place to unload all beach gear and hose it down every day. Minimal bugs,(we have more in Atlanta) Beautiful hummingbirds, THE VIEW!!! The house was so pretty. L/R perfect for movie nights (cuz sundown is 7pm.)Screens in kitchen windows let perfect breezes in bc no AC in kitchen. Makes for steamy cooking.
Cons:--The main door going out to the pool sticks something fierce. Lots of slamming of the heavy wooden and glass door was almost too much to handle before my coffee in the mornings. --Those two damn Pearly Eyed Thrashers!! If i had only known to bring my bb gun! NEVER leave the doors open, EVER! Those two raptors will stalk you quietly around the house and wait until they can sneak in the smallest of cracks, then they poop all over everything! --More blankets would be nice.--West bedroom did not have access to a closet. --Lofts in pictures are blocked off and unusable.
