THE PROPERTY

Upon your arrival, you won't be able to help but notice this picturesque property. One side of the home offers attractive views of the marshland, huge oak trees laden with Spanish moss, and the St. Marys River, welcoming you with a beautifully peaceful ambiance only found in coastal Georgia. The house itself sits on a large lot, which features an attractive rice planter design, pine straw pathways, and newly planted grass. Look forward to spending your downtime on the breezy porch, where you can admire views of Point Peter and Cumberland Island National Park in the distance and watch the Cumberland Island Ferry pass by.

Inside, the house is inviting and warm, boasting vintage pine wainscoting, knotty pine flooring, tall ceilings, and numerous windows that perfectly frame the serene views outside. This 1-level property just completed construction in March 2015, offering all the modern amenities you need to feel right at home, such as air conditioning, ceiling fans, in-unit laundry machines, and insulating window blinds that open and close easily for privacy. After an enjoyable day in the great outdoors, come home to prepare a tasty home-cooked meal in the kitchen, which comes complete with a spacious pantry. Later, retreat to the great room and lounge on the comfortable couch as you watch movies on the 32-inch flat screen TV with built-in DVD player. At the end of the night, you'll be happy to retire to one of the tranquil bedrooms to rest up for another eventful day. The master bedroom will serve as your ultimate escape, featuring 9-foot ceilings and a large window that offers superb views of the sunset.

THE LOCATION

When you're ready to get out and explore St. Marys, you certainly won't have to venture far from this house! 2 adult-sized vintage bicycles are provided at the property for your use and will allow you to easily reach numerous attractions nearby. Enjoy a leisurely bike ride downtown, where you'll find great local restaurants and charming shops. In addition, the municipal water park is a convenient bike ride away in the opposite direction of downtown. Delve into the area's rich history by taking a tour through the Naval Submarine Museum, Radio Museum, and Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum. Great house!

  • 5 of 5

Very cute little house. Just perfect. Only downside is the internet is very slow....basically it’s like dial up internet. I had to use cellular data all weekend. If you wanted to check email, go online, stream video or download anything, you can’t. But the house is darling. Very clean & well stocked. Host was very nice. She emailed back quickly when I had questions. She stocked soap, lotion & shampoo like a hotel.

Quaint cottage and very clean!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage felt very warm and inviting! It has everything needed including games, books, DVD's, etc. The master bed was extremely comfortable which is a huge plus! We are spoiled by our memory foam mattress at home, and normally both end up with backaches while on vacation. That didn't happen this time due to such a comfy mattress. We loved the location as it was very peaceful. This was our first visit to St. Mary's. We loved it! If we ever have the pleasure of returning, we would definitely stay at this cottage again.

Need to keep this one a secret!

  • 5 of 5

I hesitate to post a review because this place and St. Mary's are so idyllic and unspoiled, we don't want it to be discovered! Ashby Lane is a perfect location, unblievably quiet, beautiful marsh views, and so convenient to the charming downtown. While we were there we experienced incredible hospitality and friendly people everywhere we went. We hiked, we biked, we had magical experiences on Cumberland Island and at the Okefenokee. Only feedback I would give is that if you're cooking meals - the kitchen could use a few more essentials (can opener, baking sheet, knives). But other than that - sheets and linens are wonderful, king bed was so comfortable it made it hard to get up in the morning, kids were great in the twins and their own bathroom, and we had a lovely fruit basket on he table when we arrived with a sweet note from Becky along with restaurant recommendations.

We can't wait to go back!

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed our second stay at this property. Everything was still very clean and well maintained. All the beds seemed to be upgraded from our last stay and that much more comfortable.

Charm +

  • 5 of 5

A charming, uniquely decorated, and most accommodating and relaxful cottage set in the historic district of St. Marys. The photos on this site do not do it justice. Easy access by foot and/or bike to the Welcome Center and riverfront where one can find delicious seafood, a general store serving many flavors of ice cream, many small shops, and a well-maintained riverfront park to sit in swings and enjoy the river scenery. Three vintage bicycles offer more opportunities for touring and exercising. Would recommend, upon first arriving, the golf cart tour of the historic district obtained through the Welcome Center just two blocks from the cottage. It offers an excellent commentary on the history of St. Marys and the surrounding area. St. Marys Seafood Restaurant on Osborne (Hwy 40 in town) and nearby Kingsland's Ship 2 Shore Restaurant, also on Hwy 40, are both recommended for scrumptious seafood at a reasonable price. Amelia Island Cruise from Brett's Restaurant at nearby Fernandina Beach, FL, provides an entertaining and informative water tour along the shorelines of Amelia Island and Cumberland Island which one will not want to miss. A nice day's visit to Okefenoke Swamp State Park provides varied educational experiences (including seeing live alligators!) for children and adults alike via a swamp cruise and a train ride and a museum docent. After three full days of enjoyable activities, this cottage was a welcomed reprieve for settling into restful evenings, just like home. One will leave St. Marys, after staying in this sweet cottage, feeling as though he/she is leaving one's own home.
