There is no better place for a tropical escape - skip the hotel!

  • 5 of 5

When I booked this home I knew it would be awesome, based on the images and my communications with the property owner. But when I arrived at the house I was blown away by its beauty. We were there for our honeymoon and were so happy with our choice, it absolutely made the vacation a paradise. We slept in late and came home early just to take advantage of the wonderful space. The grounds were a perfect example of tropical landscaping, and the pool with mini waterfall were beautiful to look at, be around, and listen to. At night we turned off all the lights, sat by the pool, and listened to the chirping frogs as we stared at the stars. And the bird songs, both day and night, were so pretty, too!

Inside the home was immaculate, breezy, pretty, and fully stocked. I had a couple of questions for the home owner by email, and she got back to me quickly, thoroughly, and with a few extra tips about where to forage for fresh fruit!

This location is perfectly placed between Volcano and north of Hilo, so you can visit black sand beaches, tidepools, lava flow, ice shave downtown, waterfalls, and botanical gardens easily. Quick trip to and from Hilo airport. You must have a car for this island, and the home is down a long road with no lighting. Which is actually wonderful as it's a bit remote while still being close to attractions. Great privacy!

We were able to take a trip up to Mauna Kea summit - rented a 4x4 for the day from Harper (great customer service) and checked the summit's road conditions each day (as it was closed a few days during our visit), so we played in the snow for a bit then got back down to sea level for tropical drinks in Pahoa! Kaleo's is the best dining on the Hilo side, I'm pretty sure.

But back to the house! Do yourself a favor and book this home before considering a hotel. You'll pay the same price, if not less, and have beautiful grounds, wonderful sounds of paradise, and a crystal sparkling pool with waterfall.

I made a quick video of the grounds in front of the house:

Doesn't do it justice, but it's something :) Mahalo to Deb for sharing her wonderful home!

Absolutely wonderful home!!!

I can't say enough good things about this home!! Stayed here for 5 days during my honeymoon and the home was exactly as described. Large, spacious, and accommodating. Very clean, everything worked, and the pool was wonderful!! My only regret was not spending more time here!!!

A lovely home in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at the plantation house. We found it very spacious for our family and very safe for our three kids. The pool is fully fenced. The kitchen has great equipment and appliances. The house is really uncluttered and so safe and easy to unpack and pack from.

It's on a large (2 acre plot) and the planting in the garden is so nicely done with a great variety of trees and plants that attract beautiful birds. It's a really peaceful spot, but also a great location to explore Hilo, volcanically heated tide pools, the Volcanos National Park and the fun towns on the East side of the island.

The house is very well run, with Debs being a great and fast communicator and her house manager Toni being also wonderfully efficient and communicative. Also the house was spotlessly clean. I would recommend.

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home in the Puna coast area. The pictures do not do it justice. Surrounding grounds are also beautiful and well kept, to to mention the very nice pool and outdoor shower. The kitchen was very well stocked. There is only one bathroom inside the house but it is very large with a nice walk in shower. The second bath is actually in the laundry area next to the car port. It is a full bath with tub shower combo. This didn't bother us at all as it was just my husband and myself, but for a family or two couples, it may be a problem for some. The second bath s just a short walk out the sliding doors of one of the bedrooms. Debra is great to work with and I would stay in her home again.

This house was awesome! We loved staying there

  • 5 of 5

The gardens were amazing and it's sooo beautiful there. We loved picking ripe fruit, swimming in the pool, being close to the volcano, etc... the house is well maintained, super clean and well stocked with everything you would need. It really is the perfect big island vacation spot.

Beautiful plantation style home

  • 4 of 5

This home is beautifully decorated and furnished with just about everything you would want or need. The wrap around windows in the living room and dining room provide wonderful light, and, views of the nicely landscaped grounds. They also provide a nice flow-through breeze when opened. There are ceiling fans in just about every room. The kitchen is modern and nicely equipped with a gas stove, microwave oven and dishwasher. I was impressed with all the little touches, nice dishes, kitchen utensils and cookware, sheets and towels. The outdoor living space with the pool was wonderful.

The only drawback to this property is that the second bathroom is located separate from the main house in the pool house/laundry room. With that being said, we really enjoyed staying in this property because it felt like our home away from home. We will definitely stay here again!
