About Benn Batterson

I was born and raised in Potter County. After meeting my wife and graduating from college we moved back to the area. The previous owner of Valley Vista of 35 years is a dear friend. After he decided to move closer to family and milder climates we were offered the Lodge to make our own memories.

We currently live and raise our family on a sheep farm in Potter County. We strive to provide a childhood of years gone past for our three children

Benn Batterson purchased this lodge in 2015

Why Benn Batterson chose Pennsylvania

We purchased this property as our retirement home. We had looked at building a home with a similar view but Valley Vista came on the market and we loved the location and layout. The privacy and quiet provides a peaceful setting

What makes this lodge unique

The gorgeous views both from the tower and lodge porch make Vista unique. Anything from stars to sunsets and wildlife in between. The Lodge sits on top of a ridge bordering 250,000 acres of State Forest with hiking trails and old roads to explore.

You will be visiting a Lodge that was established in the early 1970s. The Lodge in previous years provided guided hunting and outdoor activities to sports. Over time the Lodge has been updated completely with Central Air and Knotty Pine interior. An observation tower was also built to enjoy even greater views. We have added a 12x12 Concrete Telescope Pad.

This must be the 4th or 5th time we've stayed at the lodge and the star gazing was excellent and the home as warm and comfy as always. Benn the owner is the nicest person you could want to deal with, thanks again Benn !

Perfect Romantic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The boyfriend and I booked this lodge as a little long weekend getaway for us. We were blown away by the lodge and view from it. We enjoyed a few long walks in the nearby woods, did a little fishing in the nearby streams and enjoyed the relaxation of the area.

It was just what we needed, although the weather didn't fully cooperate with us. We just took it as a sign we must come back again to see the night sky!

We have decided that it will be a yearly getaway for us and next time, make it a longer stay. Thank You Benn for providing such a wonderful place to stay!

Beautiful and private

  • 5 of 5

Spent a girls weekend getaway at this wonderful lodge. It was much more than we expected. A very roomy beautiful interior, a perfect idyllic setting, and stocked with everything we needed. Amazing views from the observation deck.

Perfect location, bordering the state forest. Seems it would be a great place for snowmobilers - we saw many taking advantage of the well groomed forest roads.

Looking forward to visiting again in the summer or fall. The snow made it a bit difficult to do any hiking and unfortunately for us we forgot to pack the snowshoes...

Thank you Benn for offering this little piece of paradise!

The cabin has been all done over and is a fantastic getaway

  • 5 of 5

Myself and 4 friends have been coming to this cabin to bow hunt for many years (1989-2002) and returned again this year after 14 years off. The cabin was just as we remembered it except even nicer! The whole cabin had been done over, inside and out. Such a beautiful, quiet and secluded spot. The farms around there are gorgeous and loaded with deer. The owner and his wife extended such great hospitality that it made the week there even more enjoyable. No matter what reason you would like to visit this area, this cabin is the place to stay!

Little House in the Woods

  • 4 of 5

My spouse and I picked this place in order to stargaze and do some small hikes in the area. The skies were clear two night so we were able to enjoy the tower very much. In fact, we were going to go to Cherry Springs but decided to stay at the house instead and so were able to use a stargazing app on our phone to pick out the different planets, stars and constellations.

The house is very roomy; there were only two of us but with the long dining table and multiple beds, there is plenty room for a much larger party.

Everything was pretty clean inside. There were some pans that were very greasy on the bottoms but we soaked them in dish soap and they were fine to use after that.

We were able to connect to the internet at the house which was helpful because we couldn't get a signal to text or telephone and one point I needed to contact the owner and had to do so through email. There was a phone at the house but I didn't think I had a phone number to call. In fact, there was one in a notebook on the desk but I didn't see that until the last day. I would suggest a sign or something by the phone indicating who to call.

This was a fun place to stay. We loved the quiet and the darkness at night. We saw and heard many creatures including a large white tailed deer and a big old bear (on the road) just a mile or so away. There was also some kind of night time crying creature or creatures at night while we watched the stars. I do not know what that was but sure would like to know!

In all, it was a great experience and I would recommend it for a small or large group.
